LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DIVINITY The Aging Process and How That Affects Judgement and Choices in Youth Ministry Submitted to Dr. Dan L. Burrell Assistant Professor, School of Divinity Instruction _______________________________ Reader: Scott B. Phillips Associate Professor of Religion, Rawlings School of Divinity Instructor iii THE DOCTOR OF MINISTRY THESIS PROJECT Ricky L. Harris Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary, 2015 Mentor: Dr. Dan Burrell An Examination of Developmental Life Stages Contrasted with Student Ministers’ Age and Priorities in Ministry This thesis will explore the correlation between developmental life stages and how these stages affect student ministers’ approaches to ministry in southern Baptist churches. The rationale for this thesis is to help student ministers realize that longevity in their vein of ministry is achievable and also to provide a guide for how they may process aging in ministry. Search committees will be able to use this information while seeking to fill this staff position, considering the needs of their congregation and students. Books and journals will be reviewed for content on developmental life stage characteristics. Student ministers will be surveyed and interviewed for ministry comparisons. The author hopes to gain a better understanding of various changing values during the aging process, and how these changes are realized in a student minister position. This will also allow the author to use that knowledge to mentor student ministers during their vocational careers. -

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Film Is A
1 CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION A. Background of the Study Film is a visual form of dominant mass communication because they are able to reach many social segments, as well as having the potential to affect the audience. This is because the contents of the message brought by the film can influence and shape society based on a story that is brought behind the film and not vice-versa. Being the content of the film is a record of reality that grows and develops in the community and then project it to go back in the direction the big screen. The film as a representation of reality society where, the film is a portrait of the reality of a society in which the film was made and brought back in shaping reality of a society based on the codes, conventions, and the ideology of culture wide. ( Irawanto, 1999: 14). Nowadays, there are so many books adapted to movie, but certainly they have changed. The film director intentionally changed the movie because he or she had different point of view. Film is a more sensory experience than reading, beside verbal language, there is also color, movement, and sound. Yet film is also limited: for one thing, there are no time constraints on a novel, while a film must generally compress events into two hours or so. For another, the meaning of a novel is controlled by only one person (the author) while the meaning we get from a film is the result of a collaborative effort by a large number of people. -

Book of Sketches by Jack Kerouac Introduction by George Condo Penguin, 2006 $18
Book of Sketches by Jack Kerouac Introduction by George Condo Penguin, 2006 $18 Reviewed by Dave Moore After completing his scroll version of On the Road in April 1951, Kerouac was still unsatisfied and wanted to break away from its "conventional narrative survey of road trips etc." In October, his architect student friend Ed White sug- gested to him: "Why don't you just sketch in the streets like a painter but with words?" Kerouac tried it, and was gripped by the power of the new technique that lent a new form of spontaneity to his writing. He began straight away, enthusiasti- cally rewriting his Road book in this new fashion. The first 36 pages of Visions of Cody are pure sketches, recorded in the streets, subways and diners of New York in the fall of 1951. This new publication, Book of Sketches, contains over 400 more pages of sketches, typed by Kerouac in 1959 from the original small breast- pocket notebooks in which they were recorded. They begin with sketches of life at his sister's home in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, in August 1952, just after Kerouac had returned there from Mexico City where he had completed work on Doctor Sax. Kerouac describes his work on the North Carolina railroad just before taking off on the road once more on a mammoth hitch-hike to California, via Denver, and the new Cassady home in San Jose. Then follow sketches of Mexico from December 1952, and one on an airplane flying from St Louis to New York, a previously unknown trip taking Kerouac back home in time for Christmas. -

It was a great conference, and a good one to cut my presidential teeth on as I knew many of the Idahoans attending, and had just worked with most of the vendors at the August PNLA conference in Post Falls . As a matter of fact, I was so busy enjoying the ILA conference that I almost missed my opportunity to speak at the business meeting! March 12, 2009 saw me heading off to Kodiak, Alaska for the Alaska Library Association's Annual Conference. Flying out of Pocatello these days means that you must fly first to Salt Lake City, Utah, a lovely city and a fine airport, but is a route that does not make for a direct flight to anywhere.
