APOEL FC - record versus clubs from opponents' country None

Having clinched victories in their first two home games without conceding a goal, section winners Chelsea FC will be aiming to round off their Group D campaign in style when they host APOEL FC on Matchday 6. • While the London club qualified for their seventh consecutive knockout phase and made sure of first place thanks to a 1-0 win at runners-up FC Porto on Matchday 5, APOEL drew 1-1 at home with Club Atlético de Madrid. To overhaul their third-placed Spanish rivals and seal progress to the UEFA Europa League round of 32, APOEL must better the result obtained by Atlético at home against Porto. Previous meeting • When the rivals crossed paths on 30 September, Chelsea had to endure a few late scares as a determined APOEL side tried to cancel out Nicolas Anelka's opening goal. That strike nonetheless proved enough to win the day and earn Carlo Ancelotti's team a second successive 1-0 victory in the section. • It was the first time the teams had met and also the first time each had faced clubs from their opponents' country. Match background • Chelsea's 100 per cent record in their first two home games extended their unbeaten UEFA Champions League run at Stamford Bridge to 20 outings, 15 of which ended in a victory for the Blues. • Eleven goals have been conceded in those 20 unbeaten encounters, four of which came in a single match, the 4-4 draw with Liverpool FC in last season's quarter-final second leg. • Chelsea's last home defeat came in February 2006, when FC Barcelona won 2-1 in the first knockout round. • The London club have won nine times, drawn twice and conceded just two goals in their eleven group games at Stamford Bridge over the last four campaigns. • In eight previous competitive meetings between English and Cypriot clubs, seven have ended in English wins. The 2007/08 UEFA Cup first-round tie between Anorthosis FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC finished 1-1 in after Tottenham had won the first leg 6-1. Team ties • APOEL midfielder signed for Chelsea from FC Penafiel in August 2004, soon after José Mourinho had taken charge of the London club. He made his debut in an FA Cup victory against Scunthorpe United FC in January 2005 but made only two subsequent appearances in the , against Manchester United FC and Everton, before joining APOEL in May 2007. • Michael Ballack scored Germany's goal in a 1-1 draw against Cyprus at the GSP Stadium in a UEFA EURO 2008™ Group D qualifier on 15 November 2006. , Constantinos Charalambides and Chrysostomos Michail were on the opposite side, with Michalis Morfis an unused substitute. • Charalambides and Marinos Satsias also featured in a 4-0 defeat by Germany in the reverse fixture on 17 November 2007.

Satsias, Elia and Charalambides all took to the field for the visitors that day. Satsias and Charalambides were also in the Cyprus team that lost 2-0 at home to the Czechs on 21 November 2007. Match facts

Chelsea UEFA milestones • John Terry captained Chelsea for the 300th time in the Matchday 5 win at FC Porto. UEFA Champions League statistics • Chelsea have conceded two goals to date, the joint lowest total in the competition. • Michael Essien will incur a suspension with his next yellow card. Latest domestic information • Saturday 5 December: Manchester City FC 2-1 Chelsea FC (Adebayor 37, Tévez 56; Adebayor 8og) Čech; Ivanović, Carvalho (Belletti 64), Terry (Malouda 88), A. Cole; Essien, Ballack (Mikel 64), Lampard, Deco; Drogba, Anelka. • Chelsea's lead at the top of the Premier League was cut to two points as they suffered a third defeat of the season – all away from home – at the City of Manchester Stadium. Frank Lampard had the chance to rescue a point, but his late penalty was saved by Shay Given. • The Blues still boast the tightest defence in the Premier League despite having conceded ten goals after 15 games, four more than at the same stage last year. • Prior to Saturday, Chelsea had kept five successive clean sheets in the league, scoring 17 goals in that run. Emmanuel Adebayor's goal for City was the first Carlo Ancelotti's team had conceded since a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa FC on 17 October, a run of 525 minutes. • They are yet to concede in the first 15 minutes of a top-flight match this term, and have been breached only once in the last half-hour. • Chelsea have won 18 of their 24 games in all competitions this season, including each of their eleven home matches. At Stamford Bridge, they have scored 30 goals and conceded only one – against Hull City AFC on 15 August, 962 minutes ago. • Chelsea have scored at least twice in 15 of their last 19 Premier League matches. The exceptions were the losses at Wigan Athletic FC, Villa and City and the victory against Manchester United FC. • On 29 November, the London club consolidated their position at the top of the Premier League with a 3-0 derby win at Arsenal FC, Didier Drogba scoring late in each half either side of a Thomas Vermaelen own goal. • They bowed out of the League Cup at the quarter-final stage on 2 December, however, going down 4-3 on penalties at Blackburn Rovers FC after the game had finished 3-3 following extra time. Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Paulo Ferreira struck for the visitors, who were left with ten men when Kalou limped off in the second half. Michael Ballack and Gaël Kakuta then had efforts saved in the shoot-out as the hosts prevailed. • Ferreira's goal was his first since scoring in an FA Cup tie against Colchester United FC on 19 February 2006. • Chelsea will host Championship side Watford FC in the FA Cup third round on 3 January. APOEL UEFA milestones • The Cypriot titleholders have conceded 198 goals in UEFA competition. UEFA Champions League statistics • APOEL have had only nine shots on target, fewer than any other club. • Mário Breška and Marinos Satsias will incur a one-match ban with their next bookings. Latest domestic information Friday 4 December: APOEL FC 1-1 Apollon FC (Charalambides 81; Bangura 20) Chiotis; Poursaitides (Breška 72), Elia, Paulo Jorge, Broerse; Satsias (Papathanasiou 67), Pinto, Kosowski, Charalambides; Mirosavljević, Żewłakow (Morais 46). • Despite their eight-game league winning streak coming to an end, APOEL moved top of Division A for the first time this season with a point against Apollon. • The Cypriot champions have failed to win a mere five of their last 29 home league fixtures, losing just one. • APOEL have conceded ten goals in their last 15 matches in all competitions. • Ivan Jovanović's side came from a goal down to win 2-1 at AEL Limassol FC on 30 November, recovering from Freddy's tenth-minute opener thanks to second-half strikes from Nuno Morais (51) and Nenad Mirosavljević (55). • Having not scored since 30 August, Mirosavljević found the net in three successive matches, against Anorthosis Famagusta FC, Club Atlético de Madrid and AEL. • APOEL's game at Nea Salamis FC on 15 November was abandoned after 77 minutes due to crowd trouble, with APOEL leading 1-0. Jovanović's charges were later awarded a 3-0 victory. • Two points from their first three fixtures represented APOEL's worst start to a league campaign in 38 years and left them seven points off the Division A summit. They subsequently embarked on their eight-match winning streak. • The 1-0 defeat by FC Porto on Matchday 4 was APOEL's sixth loss of the season, two more than in the whole of last term. • APOEL will face Ethnikos Achnas FC in the second round on 6 and 20 January. • On 9 August APOEL beat APOP/Kinyras Peyias FC 2-1 to claim the Cypriot Super Cup. Alexandrou will not be available for the trip to Chelsea while Kontis faces a late fitness test. • Haxhi was replaced 24 minutes into the Nea Salamis game, having aggravated a calf strain initially suffered during Albania's 4-1 defeat by Sweden on 14 October. Miscellaneous • Savvas Poursaitides, a Greek national, has acquired a Cypriot passport through marriage. The versatile right-sided player has been in Cyprus since 2002, when he joined Dighenis Akritas Morphou FC, and had spells at Ethnikos Achnas and Anorthosis before switching to APOEL last year. • APOEL have followed last season's Cypriot UEFA Champions League representatives Anorthosis in having a new kit designed for the competition. The Nicosia club wore an all-yellow strip on Matchdays 1 and 4.

• UEFA Champions League: Group stage milestones Holders FC Barcelona are looking to avoid becoming the first defending champions to fail to get through a group stage since the UEFA Champions League began. (This record, like the others, includes the seasons between 1999/2000 and 2002/03 that featured a second group stage). In 1992/93, Barcelona were the reigning European Champion Clubs' Cup holders and were beaten 4-3 on aggregate in the second round by PFC CSKA Moskva. S.S. Lazio goalkeeper Marco Ballotta became the oldest player to compete in the UEFA Champions League in 2007/08 when he featured against Olympiacos CFP on Matchday 1 at the age of 43 years and 168 days. The record was previously held by Alessandro Costacurta, the AC Milan defender who played against AEK Athens FC in the 2006/07 season at the age of 40 years and 211 days. Ballotta was aged 43 years 252 days when he featured against Real Madrid CF on Matchday 6. Laurent Blanc is the oldest player to score in the competition, aged 36 years and 339 days, having found the net for Manchester United FC in their 3-2 defeat of Olympiacos CFP on 23 October 2002. Celestine Babayaro is the youngest player to have appeared in the UEFA Champions League. He was 16 years and 87 days when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994. He was then sent off in the 37th minute. Barcelona, Manchester United and Milan have all finished as group winners on ten occasions, one more than Real Madrid and Juventus. Four teams have recorded six successive victories in a UEFA Champions League group stage: Milan (1992/93), Paris Saint-Germain FC (1994/95), FC Spartak Moskva (1995/96) and Barcelona (2002/03, first group stage). In 2006/07, PFC Levski Sofia joined 1. FC Košice in being the only team to have played in the UEFA Champions League and never picked up a point. The Slovakian side have not returned to the competition since losing all six games in their only campaign to date in 1997/98. Six other teams have gone through a single group stage campaign without picking up a point: FC Dynamo Kyiv (2007/08), SK Rapid Wien (2005/06) and RSC Anderlecht (2004/05) plus Spartak Moskva and Bayer 04 Leverkusen (2002/03, first and second group stage respectively) and Fenerbahçe SK (2001/02, first group stage). Manchester United scored 20 goals in the 1998/99 group stage, more than any other side has managed. Barcelona scored 19 times in the 1999/2000 first group stage. Dynamo conceded 19 goals in their six outings in 2007/08, equalling the record let in during a group stage set by Ferencvárosi TC in the 1995/96 campaign. No team has ever gone through a UEFA Champions League group stage without conceding a goal. Milan (1992/93), AFC Ajax (1995/96), Juventus (1996/97 and 2004/05), Chelsea FC (2005/06), Liverpool FC (2005/06) and Villarreal CF (2005/06) all let in just one. Before their 3-1 win against Sporting Clube de Portugal on Matchday 6 of the 2006/07 campaign, FC Spartak Moskva went 22 games without a victory in the competition, surpassing the unwanted record set by AEK Athens FC on Matchday 3 of the same campaign. The lowest total for a team qualifying from the group stage is seven points. The first to do it, since was introduced in 1995/96, were Legia Warszawa that same season before Bayer Leverkusen managed it in 1999/2000 and Liverpool in 2001/02. FC Lokomotiv Moskva and eventual finalists Juventus both progressed with seven points in 2002/03, a feat achieved by Rangers FC and Werder Bremen in 2005/06.
