The nation's most prestigious jazz piano competition kicks off the festival. Five finalists of a nationwide search for the best undiscovered jazz pianist compete for cash awards and top honors. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and get ready for a day overflowing with music. The gates open at 10:00AM, and the music starts at 11 :00AM. Jackson­ ville's jazz explosion erupts with perfor­ mances by popular pianist Ramsey Lewis, and a tribute to Benny Goodman by a quar­ lp tet of jazz masters - Buddy Defranco, Terry Gibbs, Milt Hinton and Ross 1e Tompkins. The Excitement continues with the at contemporary sounds of sax man , in and the appealing guitar /vocal duo Tuck and Patti.
