Exactly a year after his last album, the well-received Construction Time & Demolition, he's back with a new album, Transience. For every song of Wreckless Eric's you remember from his early days on Stiff Records, he's recorded 10 more that you've probably never heard. The early DIY British indie label may have been his entry-level position into the music business, but Eric Goulden didn't stop making music after the novelty of Stiff Records - and his being known as Wreckless Eric - wore off. Forty years on, Goulden is still making insightful music while the original label is but a footnote in music history. On Transience, Eric is joined by friends including acoustic 12-string guitar player Alexander Turnquist, Cheap Trick bassist, Tom Petersson, Amy Rigby on piano and backing TRACK LISTING vocals, jazz horn player Artie Barbato, and on drums Steve Goulding, late of Graham Parker & the Rumour - the first 1. FATHER TO THE MAN time he and Eric have recorded together since Eric's 2. STRANGE LOCOMOTION enduring hit "Whole Wide World" back in 1976. He wrote the songs on the move, alone in grubby rooms, in 3.

It is because it taps this well-spring of human emotions that the memorial service on the Day of Atonement, Yizkor, which is dedicated to resurrecting from the limbo of the past the personalities of loved ones who are no more, retains its universal appeal. No one who is imbued with the least particle of reverence for his or her forbearers will miss this opportunity on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar year for expressing what is in his or her heart toward those dear souls to whom he or she owes so much of his or her life and being. We know that what we are today is due chiefly to the way in which they who came before us conducted themselves.

Bordo, Owen F. Humpage, Anna J. Schwartz Chapter URL: http://www.nber.org/chapters/c13539 Chapter pages in book: (p. 56 – 119) 3 Introducing the Exchange Stabilization Fund, 1934– 1961 3.1 Introduction The Wrst formal US institution designed to conduct oYcial intervention in the foreign exchange market dates from 1934. In earlier years, as the preceding chapter has shown, makeshift arrangements for intervention pre- vailed. Why the Exchange Stabilization Fund (ESF) was created and how it performed in the period ending in 1961 are the subject of this chapter. After thriving in the prewar years from 1934 to 1939, little opportunity for intervention arose thereafter through the closing years of this period, so it is a natural dividing point in ESF history. The change in the fund’s operations occurred as a result of the Federal Reserve’s decision in 1962 to become its partner in oYcial intervention. A subsequent chapter takes up the evolution of the fund thereafter.
