Samlealbum Fra Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt Og Emmylou Harris
Trioankom i 1987; og inneholdt hit-låtene ”To Know Him Is To Love Him”, ”Wildflowers” og ”Father Along”. -

August 2012 Newsletter
August 2012 Newsletter ------------------------------------ Yesterday & Today Records P.O.Box 54 Miranda NSW 2228 Phone: (02) 95311710 Email:[email protected] www.yesterdayandtoday.com.au ------------------------------------------------ Postage Australia post is essentially the world’s most expensive service. We aim to break even on postage and will use the best method to minimise costs. One good innovation is the introduction of the “POST PLUS” satchels, which replace the old red satchels and include a tracking number. Available in 3 sizes they are 500 grams ($7.50) 3kgs ($11.50) 5kgs ($14.50) P & P. The latter 2 are perfect for larger interstate packages as anything over 500 grams even is going to cost more than $11.50. We can take a cd out of a case to reduce costs. Basically 1 cd still $2. 2cds $3 and rest as they will fit. Again Australia Post have this ludicrous notion that if a package can fit through a certain slot on a card it goes as a letter whereas if it doesn’t it is classified as a “parcel” and can cost up to 5 times as much. One day I will send a letter to the Minister for Trade as their policies are distinctly prejudicial to commerce. Out here they make massive profits but offer a very poor number of services and charge top dollar for what they do provide. Still, the mail mostly always gets there. But until ssuch times as their local monopoly remains, things won’t be much different. ----------------------------------------------- For those long term customers and anyone receiving these newsletters for the first time we have several walk in sales per year, with the next being Saturday August 25th. -
The Recordings
Appendix: The Recordings These are the URLs of the original locations where I found the recordings used in this book. Those without a URL came from a cassette tape, LP or CD in my personal collection, or from now-defunct YouTube or Grooveshark web pages. I had many of the other recordings in my collection already, but searched for online sources to allow the reader to hear what I heard when writing the book. Naturally, these posted “videos” will disappear over time, although most of them then re- appear six months or a year later with a new URL. If you can’t find an alternate location, send me an e-mail and let me know. In the meantime, I have provided low-level mp3 files of the tracks that are not available or that I have modified in pitch or speed in private listening vaults where they can be heard. This way, the entire book can be verified by listening to the same re- cordings and works that I heard. For locations of these private sound vaults, please e-mail me and I will send you the links. They are not to be shared or downloaded, and the selections therein are only identified by their numbers from the complete list given below. Chapter I: 0001. Symposium Records Cd 1109 Adolf Busch
SYMPOSIUM RECORDS CD 1109 The Great Violinists – Volume 4 ADOLF BUSCH (1891-1952) This compact disc documents the early instrumental records of the greatest German-born musician of this century. Adolf Busch was a legendary violinist as well as a composer, organiser of chamber orchestras, founder of festivals, talented amateur painter and moving spirit of three ensembles: the Busch Quartet, the Busch Trio and the Busch/Serkin Duo. He was also a great man, who almost alone among German gentile musicians stood out against Hitler. His concerts between the wars inspired a generation of music-lovers and musicians; and his influence continued after his death through the Marlboro Festival in Vermont, which he founded in 1950. His associate and son-in-law, Rudolf Serkin (1903-1991) maintained it until his own death, and it is still going strong. Busch's importance as a fiddler was all the greater, because he was the last glory of the short-lived German school; Georg Kulenkampff predeceased him and Hitler's decade smashed the edifice built up by men like Joseph Joachim and Carl Flesch. Adolf Busch's career was interrupted by two wars; and his decision to boycott his native country in 1933, when he could have stayed and prospered as others did, further fractured the continuity of his life. That one action made him an exile, cost him the precious cultural nourishment of his native land and deprived him of his most devoted audience. Five years later, he renounced all his concerts in Italy in protest at Mussolini's anti-semitic laws. -
Oboe Trios: an Annotated Bibliography
Oboe Trios: An Annotated Bibliography by Melissa Sassaman A Research Paper Presented in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree Doctor of Musical Arts Approved November 2014 by the Graduate Supervisory Committee: Martin Schuring, Chair Elizabeth Buck Amy Holbrook Gary Hill ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY December 2014 ABSTRACT This project is a practical annotated bibliography of original works for oboe trio with the specific instrumentation of two oboes and English horn. Presenting descriptions of 116 readily available oboe trios, this project is intended to promote awareness, accessibility, and performance of compositions within this genre. The annotated bibliography focuses exclusively on original, published works for two oboes and English horn. Unpublished works, arrangements, works that are out of print and not available through interlibrary loan, or works that feature slightly altered instrumentation are not included. Entries in this annotated bibliography are listed alphabetically by the last name of the composer. Each entry includes the dates of the composer and a brief biography, followed by the title of the work, composition date, commission, and dedication of the piece. Also included are the names of publishers, the length of the entire piece in minutes and seconds, and an incipit of the first one to eight measures for each movement of the work. In addition to providing a comprehensive and detailed bibliography of oboe trios, this document traces the history of the oboe trio and includes biographical sketches of each composer cited, allowing readers to place the genre of oboe trios and each individual composition into its historical context. Four appendices at the end include a list of trios arranged alphabetically by composer’s last name, chronologically by the date of composition, and by country of origin and a list of publications of Ludwig van Beethoven's oboe trios from the 1940s and earlier. -

We all think we know plenty about the composer of the Ofamous G minor Violin Concerto. All the more surprising, then, that in fact we know very little about the composer’s life, as very little has actually been written about him. The first biography of Max Bruch did not appear until the 1980s! Max Bruch was born in Cologne in 1838, and died in Berlin-Friedenau in 1920. In the course of a long life, he witnessed more major upheavals in the history of music than most other composers. When Bruch was a child, musical life was dom in ated by the works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Frédéric Chopin, Gioacchino Rossini and Ludwig van Beethoven. -
Chamberfest 2018
ChamberFest 2018 elcome to the 17th annual Juilliard ChamberFest. This year 140 students and faculty return one W week early from the winter recess for a tuition-free chamber music intensive. Working without interruption in the nearly empty Juilliard building in great depth on repertoire they have selected themselves, the musicians have found that ChamberFest’s unlimited rehearsal time and daily coaching yields an extraordinarily rich artistic and educational result. This experience therefore not only nurtures the devoted chamber musician at Juilliard, it also nurtures the broad and reflective education necessary for the training of the 21st-century artist-citizen. Launched in 2002, ChamberFest occupies a unique place in the life of the school, and after this year will have presented 1,300 students in 270 ensemble pairings with Juilliard faculty and guest coaches for almost 300 performances. Juilliard’s musicians have been joined in the past by students from London’s Royal Academy of Music, France’s Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, Vienna’s Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Wien, and the orchestra academy of Brazil’s São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra. Past guest coaches have included soprano Barbara Hannigan, MacArthur Fellow Liz Lerman, and pianist Peter Serkin. ChamberFest has been a home for the traditional—works by Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorˇák, Mendelssohn, Mozart, Schubert and Shostakovich top the list—and the unusual. Included among the latter are interdisciplinary chamber music performances with dancers and choreographers; improvised presentations; premieres; the inclusion of distinctive European instruments rarely heard in the U.S. including the Vienna clarinet, Vienna pumphorn and the French bassoon; and this year’s season opener, by Claudio Papapietro Photo of cellist Khari Joyner Photo by Claudio Papapietro John Corigliano’s evocative Chiaroscuro for two pianos—with one piano tuned a quarter-tone lower than the other. -
