The reason I had to compete is because I won Long jump at Area Athletics and then got through to the next round. To be honest, I was quite nervous but I have been train- ing and training at Salisbury Athletics track so that I could be prepared for the weekend. When it came to the day, I was excit- ed and ready, and trying to not think about it much. When it came to my event I was nervous but ready. My first jump, I got 5.64m, second jump 5.74m , so I was gradually going up and then my final jump of the first round was 5.84m. The top 6 ath- letes get an extra 3 jumps and I got through. I got two foul jumps and I had one more left and I thought I have to give this my all and I did and got 5.90m, which meant I had a place in ESAA and the WSAA to compete on the 16th June at Exeter for the South Wales Championships. I was glad because this means I get to represent a different county, Wiltshire, at ESAA instead of North Yorkshire and I am ready for it. It has been a great experience and I am not going to let it end there. Lui Natui Success for Emily Batty Athletics success I was very pleased to be invited to compete in the Wiltshire Schools Athletic championships. I qualified to race in the 800m. The race didn’t start well, after 200m I was at the back of the field and worked my way to 7th after 400m. I moved up the field into 5th place with 100m to go, at this point I felt really good and started sprinting I forged ahead and made up about 25m to finish 2nd with a Personal Best time. This was a fantastic achievement for me and I’m now looking forward to AVC Sports day. Swimming success On the 3rd of June I swam in the Salisbury Stingrays Open Swimming meet. I won a gold in the 50m free- style and silver for 100 I M and 100 backstroke. Sad- ly I have an on-going shoulder injury, so I could not compete in the afternoon session. Over all I was pleased with my achievements. Emily Batty Disability Athletics The School games Disability Athletics festival took place at Tidworth Oval. The following schools participated, Avon Valley College, Larkrise, Sarum Academy, Kingdown, Shel- don and St Edmunds. Sports leaders from Kingdown and St Edmunds ran the 4 different events, 75m, 300m, Standing Long Jump and the Vortex throw. There was three catego- ries of disability all competing for an individual medal. The hardest event was the 300m but everyone managed with support to complete it. The students enjoyed the day not just having a go at the events but also socialising with the other competitor's. Mrs Harries They all performed fantastically, in particularly poor weather conditions. Our team came 2nd overall and we had some stand out perfor- mances from individuals! Rory Cameron was 2nd boy overall! 5th was Eleanor Flower and Taylor Jewel Ben O’Callaghan won the 800m - scoring more points than we have ever had in a Year 8 , 800m race! Mr Burton Sports Leaders Aimee, Jas, Grace and Ellie in Year 9 helped officiate and score at the girls Kwik Cricket festival at Collingbourne Cricket club. After attending a mini Tennis course, Aimee, Tyler and Callum took on the role of official and scorer at the level2 School Games primary Mini Tennis Festival. Flynn, Max, Caitlyn, Chelsea and Jas supported them as an extra pair of eyes on the side line and were on hand to provide the balls for each serve. After attending Quadkids training in how to officiate the 3 different events - standing long jump, vortex throw and track events the following students volunteered to run the events at the primary Quadkids festival held after school at AVC - Emily, Archie, Callum, Lindsey, Aimee, Molly, Jas, Aimee, Sovaia, Grace, Ellie, Jazz, Heidi and Skye. The following attended Marlborough College for the second Quadkids festivals—Year 9 Jas, Jas, Emilie, Aimee, Molly, Sovaia, from Year 10 Charlie, Jazz, Skye, Megan, Jack, Ben, James, Lui, Georgia and Heidi. Mrs Harries Jigsaw workshop Aimee from Jigsaw , which is a Salisbury Youth Dance Company, delivered a 2 hour workshop to the Year 9 girls Dance class to give them an insight in to contem- porary dance and the opportunity for them to attend an audition to join the company. During the session they learnt different ways to warm up, they looked at ways to travel and then finished off by learning a motif and developing it in a group. By the end of the workshop, the girls had lots of new dances moves to add to their vocabulary and were very tired. Mrs Harries Year 7 History This term in Year 7 History, students are studying the First World War. As part of this topic we will be looking at Trench Warfare during the First World War and students will learn about life in the Trenches. The Humanities Faculty have decided to have a competition where all students will research, design and build a replica WW1 Trench. This will be judged on Open Evening by a First World War reenactor. Your trench can be designed and built using any materials you like but must not exceed the size limit of an A2 piece of paper. Students are not allowed to hand in their trench until Monday 9th July and the judging will take place on Tuesday 10th July. The winners will be announced in the Year 7 assembly which follows. Miss Bird Volunteering Friends of Durrington Junior School would like to thank the following Year 9 students who helped at their last fund raising event MAYHEM. The students helped to entertain the children and showed them how to use the different equipment that was provided: Aimee Marsh, Aimee Tudor, Lindsey Allen, Chelsea Guille, Molly Grant and Jas Spencer. Mrs Harries Geography Year 10 Geography students made the most of the spell of fine weather incorporating some outside learning into the ‘Landforms and Processes’ component of their GCSE. There are 210 chalk streams in the world and the geography depart- ment is lucky to have one of them on its doorstep. Not to let such a fine learning resource go to waste, Mr Hudson donned his (slightly leaky) waders and led the class to a meander just past the recreation ground where measurements of distance and depth were taken by the pupils. This data was then turned into a cross-section of the meander which was used to contrast the inside and outside of the bend. Incidentally this was the very first question of this year’s GCSE exam! Girls Touch Rugby Festival The Level 2 School Games Touch Rugby Festival for Year7/8 girls took place at Avon Valley College. As the girls had not had any practice the festival started with some friendly games so the girls could quickly learn the rules and see how the game was played. The girls soon got the idea and the actual matches against St Edmunds and St Josephs were close. This just proved how much determination and resilience the girls have. Top performers were Ruby Clancy who showed great pace and managed to score numerous times, while Charlotte Durban gave continuous instructions and advice on the pitch. At the end of the festival the girls from the other schools each chose their players player— St Edmunds A - Ellie Spencer, St Edmunds B - Ella Logan, St Josephs - Ruby Clancy. This was a steep learning curve for the girls but by the end they were playing some good rugby. Other team members were - Alana Guise, Aimee Tudor, Charlotte Orchard, Fa’Amelea Matakibou, Charlie Kinnear, Stevie Lamb, Rhiannon Howells, Gemma Staphnill and Kira Johnson. They have now qualified for the level 3 final in Marlborough so we will start training after half term. Mrs Harries Mr S Johnston Principal .

  • Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the Differences Between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas
Addendum to School Places Strategy 2017-2022 – Explanation of the differences between Wiltshire Community Areas and Wiltshire School Planning Areas This document should be read in conjunction with the School Places Strategy 2017 – 2022 and provides an explanation of the differences between the Wiltshire Community Areas served by the Area Boards and the School Planning Areas. The Strategy is primarily a school place planning tool which, by necessity, is written from the perspective of the School Planning Areas. A School Planning Area (SPA) is defined as the area(s) served by a Secondary School and therefore includes all primary schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into that secondary school. As these areas can differ from the community areas, this addendum is a reference tool to aid interested parties from the Community Area/Area Board to define which SPA includes the schools covered by their Community Area. It is therefore written from the Community Area standpoint. Amesbury The Amesbury Community Area and Area Board covers Amesbury town and surrounding parishes of Tilshead, Orcheston, Shrewton, Figheldean, Netheravon, Enford, Durrington (including Larkhill), Milston, Bulford, Cholderton, Wilsford & Lake, The Woodfords and Great Durnford. It encompasses the secondary schools The Stonehenge School in Amesbury and Avon Valley College in Durrington and includes primary schools which feed into secondary provision in the Community Areas of Durrington, Lavington and Salisbury. However, the School Planning Area (SPA) is based on the area(s) served by the Secondary Schools and covers schools in the towns and surrounding villages which feed into either The Stonehenge School in Amesbury or Avon Valley College in Durrington.

University of Kent's Institution Contextual Flag All schools on this list meet the requirements for the University of Kent's Institution Contextual Flag. The Institution Contextual Flag is given to all institutions whose data indicates that they perform in the bottom 40% nationally for KS5 results reported by the Department for Education each year. We use the average point school per entry and where data is not available, we use KS4 result, if available. In order to make this more reliable we look at data over a three year period to see if they are low performing for at least two out of the last three years. In cases where an Institution is flagged, but subsequently closes, the flag will be retained and the institution will continue to appear on the list. We use the Institution supplied by you in your UCAS application (the UCAS centre or Last Institution) to identify whether it has a Contextual Flag. Please note: independent schools are not included, neither do we have data from government agencies in Scotland and Northern Ireland and therefore these cannot be given a flag. Similarly, there may be schools or colleges which have recently changed name, status or have merged and this has resulted in no data being reported by the Department of Education , in these instances we will not be able to assess the Institution for a Contextual Flag.
