El Pianista Brad Mehldau, Leyenda Viva Del Jazz, Llegará Al Lunario En Noviembre México D.F., domingo 25 de octubre de 2015 EL PIANISTA BRAD MEHLDAU, LEYENDA VIVA DEL JAZZ, LLEGARÁ AL LUNARIO EN NOVIEMBRE Se presentará con su trío, integrado por el bajista Larry Grenadier y el baterista Jeff Ballard Refrendará el éxito de sus actuaciones en 2010 y 2012 en este mismo escenario Considerado uno de los mejores pianistas de todos los tiempos, ofrecerá concierto el próximo 5 de noviembre Leyenda viviente del jazz, el pianista estadounidense Brad Mehldau retornará el próximo jueves 5 de noviembre al Lunario del Auditorio Nacional. Esta vez vendrá con su trío, integrado por los también legendarios Larry Grenadier (bajo) y Jeff Ballard (batería). Brad Mehldau es uno de los pianistas más importantes de los últimos tiempos. Puesto al nivel de figuras como Bill Evans y Keith Jarret, ha revolucionado la historia mundial del jazz y de ello dieron cuenta sus exitosas presentaciones en el Lunario en marzo de 2010, como solista, y en mayo de 2012 acompañado también entonces por Grenadier y Ballard. Músico fuera de serie, que en gran medida gusta de la improvisación y la composición espontánea, Mehldau promete grandes sorpresas para su gran regreso el 5 de noviembre al foro alterno del Auditorio Nacional. “Todas las composiciones serán anunciadas desde el escenario”, ofrece para empezar este pianista que ha recorrido el mundo entero con su altísima capacidad de estructura musical. Mehldau, coinciden los críticos, posee una personalidad musical única, valora en gran medida el asombro que puede producirse a partir de una idea musical espontánea que se expresa directamente, en tiempo real y mientras toca. Cada una de sus interpretaciones en el escenario tiene un arco narrativo que puede expresarse al inicio o al final, con un resultado siempre sorprendente y disfrutable para quien lo escucha. Brad Mehldau se inició en la década de los 90, como solista y en trío. En 1996 lanzó su reconocida serie de cinco discos, The Art of the Trio (El arte del trío), relanzado y rediseñado como un set completo a finales de 2011. En este periodo Mehldau también grabó como solista los discos Elegiac Cycle (1999) y Places (2000) con piezas como solista y con su trío. 1 Ambas grabaciones son consideradas álbumes de concepto, es decir, fueron hechos exclusivamente de material original con temas centrales que guiaron cada una de las composiciones. También grabó el disco Largo (2001), en colaboración con el innovador músico y productor Jon Brion, y el álbum Anything Goes (2002), un proyecto en formato de trío con el bajista Larry Grenadier y el baterista Jorge Rossy, quien lo acompañó durante 10 años (Jeff Ballard se unió al trío en septiembre de 2005) y con quien grabó Brad Mehldau Live in Tokyo, lanzado en septiembre de 2004. En su discografía figuran también Day is Done (2005), Brad Mehldau Trio Live (2008) y Highway Rider (2010) un álbum doble que constituyó la muy esperada continuación de Largo y su segunda colaboración con Jon Brion, Jeff Ballard en la batería y Larry Grenadier en el bajo, además del percusionista Matt Chamberlain, el saxofonista Joshua Redman y una orquesta de cámara dirigida por Dan Coleman. En 2011 apareció Live in Marciac, un disco doble acompañado de un DVD de la presentación en vivo de Modern Music en 2006, en colaboración con el también pianista Kevin Hays y el compositor y arreglista Patrick Zimmerli. En 2012 lanzó un álbum de canciones originales de Brad Mehldau Trio (ODE), que ganó una nominación al Grammy. En 2013, Mehldau produjo y tocó en Walking Shadows y realizó una serie de giras, una de ellas a dúo con el virtuoso mandolín de Chris Thile, duetos de piano con Kevin Hays y un nuevo proyecto electrónico con el baterista Mark Guiliana llamado Mehliana, el cual tuvo su álbum debut en 2014. Además de su trío y proyectos en solitario, Mehldau ha trabajado, en conciertos y grabaciones, con músicos de la talla de Joshua Redman, Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, Lee Konitz, Michael Brecker, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, y Charles Lloyd. Asimismo, con los guitarristas Peter Bernstein y Kurt Rosenwinkel, y el saxofonista Mark Turner. A finales de enero 2010 se convirtió en el primer jazzista en ocupar la titularidad de la Cátedra de Richard y Bárbara Debs Compositor para la temporada 2010-2011 en el Carnegie Hall. Anteriormente, ese puesto fue ocupado por Louis Andriessen (2009-2010), Elliott Carter (2008-2009) y John Adams (2003-2007). Mehldau fue también nombrado curador de una serie anual de jazz de cuatro conciertos en el prestigioso Wigmore Hall de Londres durante sus temporadas 2009-10 y 2010-11. Allí se presentó en dos de los cuatro conciertos anuales. Su música ha aparecido en varias películas, incluyendo Ojos bien cerrados (1999) de Stanley Kubrick y El hotel del millón de dólares (2000) de Wim Wenders. Creció en Santa Cruz, California. De 1988 a 1990 realizó distintas giras con Ray Charles. Se mudó a Nueva York en 1990. Desde entonces, ha tocado y grabado con Lou Donaldson, Danilo Pérez, Chick Corea, y Joshua Redman, entre otros grandes músicos. Actualmente, además de formar parte de Brad Melhdau Trio, es colíder del grupo FLY (con Mark Turner, Larry Grenadier, Jeff Ballard) y la Elastic Band de Joshua Redman.     JOSHUA REDMAN BIO Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He was exposed at an early age to a variety of musics (jazz, classical, rock, soul, Indian, Indonesian, Middle-Eastern, African) and instruments (recorder, piano, guitar, gatham, gamelan), and began playing clarinet at age nine before switching to what became his primary instrument, the tenor saxophone, one year later. The early influences of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Cannonball Adderley and his father, Dewey Redman, as well as The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, Earth, Wind and Fire, Prince, The Police and Led Zeppelin drew Joshua more deeply into music. But although Joshua loved playing the saxophone and was a dedicated member of the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble and Combo from 1983-86, academics were always his first priority, and he never seriously considered becoming a professional musician. In 1991 Redman graduated from Harvard College summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Social Studies. He had already been accepted by Yale Law School, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year. Some of his friends (former students at the Berklee College of Music whom Joshua had met while in Boston) had recently relocated to Brooklyn, and they were looking for another housemate to help with the rent. Redman accepted their invitation to move in, and almost immediately he found himself immersed in the New York jazz scene.

Mehldau’s most consistent output over the years has taken place in the trio format. During that same period, Mehldau also released a solo piano recording entitled Elegiac Cycle, and a record called Places that included both solo piano and trio songs.
