The Senior Farewell!!! By Diandra Pezzano, senior

The time has come , for the last issue the class of 201 4 will ever publish. Reflecting on our time at SMH, it's important to remember the good times we all had with one another. From semi formals to the black light dance, powderpuff to the championships basketball game at the garden. We have had a lot go on in our four years at SMH , and in a few days it comes to an end .

"I will talking with my group of friends about mega important topics" , said Alyse Diamantides, the editor of the newspaper. "I will miss planning for events like the black light dance and the fan buses for the sporting events", said Michael Hayward , section editor of the sports section.

As the years have gone by we have seen seniors come and go, now it's the class of 201 4 time to graduate. We have some of the most smartest and talented people in our grade. We have definitely left a legacy on SMH.

We will probably look back on our high school career and laugh, all the problems we had and all the projects we stressed over , we will realize that these issues were not important. We could even grow apart from our friends that we made here, or we could still be friends with them 20 years from now. Whatever happens , we will never forget our memorable time here at SMH.

Once we receive our diplomas and turn the tassel to the other side of the cape, we are done with high school, done with childhood, and onto bigger and better things. Get ready college, cause here we come!

2 Entertainment Mascots Pride By Christina Mignosa, Senior

Now that every senior has made their final decision on which school they will be attending next fall, it's time they find some new school spirit. A lot of students will be attending schools with mascots, something SMH does not have. Mascots are a funny idea when really thought about. Some kid dresses up in a massive stuffed animal essentially and dances around, trying to make people excited. Each school has their own design, original and creative. In the early 1 900s, colleges often had live animals as their mascots. This slowly morphed into the mascots we know today. According to collegestats.org, UCONNs mascot, which is a live husky named Jonathan, has a pretty interesting history. "The 1 3 live mascots at UC have had a rough go since being selected to represent the school in 1 934. The very first Jonathan — named for Gov. Jonathan Trumbull of the Revolutionary War era — was run over by a car just a day after being named. Jonathan VI met the same fate, just two months after hitting campus in 1 964. Jonathan IX (also known as Jonathan X due to a numbering discrepancy) was also killed by a car, and Jonathan VII was nearly sold in 1 970 as the students College Mascot! felt he 'represented the establishment.' However, there Photo by: Christian Mignosa have also been good moments, like when Jonathan II chased Brown’s live bear up a tree, and Jonathan IV grabbed Yale’s Handsome Dan by the nose in their first meeting."

3 College Craziness! By: Jackie Lavin, Senior

College is one of the most important and exciting times in a student's life. It is the time in their lives when they go off to learn on their own, not just for school but for real life. A student learns to care for themselves and manage things on their own, and one of the most essential things is time management. Many students from our school have been accepted to many wonderful colleges. Recently, the school held a special ceremony honoring the seniors and their colleges acceptances and commitments, many near and many far. A lot of the colleges that seniors are attending are very prestigious and well-known. One of our wonderful singers, Brittany Jones, has committed to Berklee College of Music to live out her dream of studying voice performance. Hannah McCormack, our class valedictorian, has been accepted and has committed to Harvard University, a difficult feat to accomplish. Rebecca Hart, a prominent figure of campus ministry is attending Franciscan University of Steubenville, which is a very wonderful Catholic school in Ohio. Brianna Rudolph will be attending the University of Massachusetts in Lowell on a basketball scholarship. Jennifer Grimes will be attending Champlain College and studying creative writing. As it turns out, a lot of the seniors will be attending the same schools with each other. Two top ten students Andrew DiMaiti and Jennie Mucciaroine are attending Tufts University. Carol DiMaiti, Lindsay Moran, Melissa LeFave, and Britney Gear will be going to Merrimack College. Paul Halas, Patrick Scanlan, and Steven Cronin are going to Westfield State University. Alyssa Graham and Ana Figuroa will be going to Suffolk University.
