UK Biodiversity Action Plan List of UK BAP Priority Terrestrial Invertebrate Species (2007) For more information about the UK Biodiversity Action Plan (UK BAP) visit https://jncc.gov.uk/our-work/uk-bap/ List of UK BAP Priority Terrestrial Invertebrate Species (2007) A list of the UK BAP priority terrestrial invertebrate species, divided by taxonomic group into: Insects, Arachnids, Molluscs and Other invertebrates (Crustaceans, Worms, Cnidaria, Bryozoans, Millipedes, Centipedes), is provided in the tables below. The list was created between 1995 and 1999, and subsequently updated in response to the Species and Habitats Review Report published in 2007. The table also provides details of the species' occurrences in the four UK countries, and describes whether the species was an 'original' species (on the original list created between 1995 and 1999), or was added following the 2007 review. All original species were provided with Species Action Plans (SAPs), species statements, or are included within grouped plans or statements, whereas there are no published plans for the species added in 2007. Scientific names and commonly used synonyms derive from the Nameserver facility of the UK Species Dictionary, which is managed by the Natural History Museum. Un ridotto numero di specie svolge in Europa il ciclo vitale all’interno degli alberi morti a terra o in piedi e questi sono perciò considerate a tutti gli effetti come invertebrati saproxilici, al contrario molte altre entità geofile passano solo parte della loro esistenza nel legno morto e vengono definiti come subxaproxilici, o xaproxilici temporanei, ma tutti svolgono come predatori un ruolo importante nella regolazione dei processi di decomposizione del legno (BELL, 1994; SPEIGHT, 1989; SCHLAGHAMERSKÝ, 2000). -

Bulletin of the Transilvania University of Braşov Series II: Forestry • Wood Industry • Agricultural Food Engineering • Vol. 9 (58) No.1 - 2016 IMPACT OF CLEARCUTTING ON GROUND BEETLES (COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE) IN A NORWAY SPRUCE FOREST Jozef MACKO1 Abstract: The research was conducted in Veľká Fatra Mountains, Slovakia. Pitfall traps were installed in the forest and in the glade. Overall, 20 species of beetles (Coleoptera, Carabidae) were recorded. In the forest, 1532 individuals belonging to 13 species were recorded. Trechus pulpani had the highest abundance in the forest and represents almost half of all individuals. Paradoxically, on the glade, the numbers of species slightly increased, but their abundance was significantly lower. We recorded only 143 individuals belonging to 16 species. Of the forest species, only Carabus violaceus and Pterostichus unctulatus retained a dominant position, but their abundance has decreased by more than 70%. Communities in Apple and Pear Orchards in Hungary

Box 53, Hungary, e-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Species richness and composition of carabid assemblages were investigated on the ground surface of differently treated (abandoned, commercial and IPM) apple and pear orchards in Hungary. Extensive sampling was carried out by pitfall trapping in 13 apple and 3 pear orchards located in ten different regions. 28 230 indi- viduals belonging to 174 species were collected. Additional four species were collected by trunk-traps and 23 species were found during the review of earlier literature. Altogether 201 carabid species representing 40% of the carabid fauna of Hungary were found in our and earlier studies. The species richness varied between 23 and 76 in the different orchards, the average species richness was 43 species. The common species, occurring with high relative abundance in the individual orchards in decreasing order were: Pseudoophonus rufipes, Harpalus distinguendus, Harpalus tardus, Anisodactylus bino- tatus, Calathus fuscipes, Calathus erratus, Amara aenea, Harpalus affinis and Pterostichus melanarius. The species with wide distribution, occurring in more than 75% of the investigated orchards in decreas- ing order were: Pseudoophonus rufipes, Trechus quadristriatus, Harpalus tardus, Harpalus distinguendus, Pterostichus melanarius, Amara aenea, Amara familiaris Calathus fuscipes, Poecilus cupreus, Calathus ambi- guus, Calathus melanocephalus, Pseudoophonus griseus and Harpalus serripes. -

The purpose of Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) is to supplement the policies and proposals of development plans. It elaborates policies so that they can be better understood and effectively applied. SPG should be clearly cross-referenced to the relevant plan policy or policies which it supplements and should be the subject of consultation during its preparation. In these circumstances SPG may be taken into account as a material consideration in planning decisions. ii. A number of elements of SPG have been produced to supplement certain policies in the Kent and Medway Structure Plan. This SPG supplements the following policies: • Policy EN6: International and National Wildlife Designations • Policy EN7: County and Local Wildlife Designations • Policy EN8: Protecting, Conserving and Enhancing Biodiversity • Policy EN9: Trees, Woodland and Hedgerows iii. This SPG has been prepared by Kent County Council working in partnership with a range of stakeholders drawn from Kent local authorities and other relevant agencies. iv. A draft of this SPG was subject to public consultation alongside public consultation on the deposit draft of the Kent and Medway Structure Plan in late 2003. It has been subsequently revised and updated prior to its adoption. A separate report provides a statement of the consultation undertaken, the representations received and the response to these representations. -

ZESZYTY NAUKOWE UNIWERSYTETU SZCZECIŃSKIEGO NR 846 Acta BIOlOGICA NR 22 2015 DOI 10.18276/ab.2015.22-14 BRYGIDA RADAWIEC* Łukasz Baran** andrzej zawal** A CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE OF THE GROUND BEETLES (INSECTA, COLEOPTERA: CARABIDAE) OF WOLIN ISLAND Abstract In the course of a one-year investigation (17.04–13.09 2007) 2,144 specimens of carabid beetles belonging to 86 species were collected. Of these, 30 species had not previously been recorded on Wolin Island, and Bembidion (Phyla) obtusum Audinet-Serville, 1821 is new to the Polish Baltic Sea coast. All faunistic data on the ground beetles (Coleoptera: Carabidae) were recorded on Wolin Island. A total of 145 species are listed in the table (Tab. 1). The data are based on our own new material (86 species) as well as published materials. Two of the carabid species noted are legally protected in Poland: Carabus convexus and C. glabratus. V rámci p edložené doktorské práce byly studovány vybrané potenciáln významné antropické vlivy na biodiverzitu horských bezlesí Hrubého Jeseníku prost ednictvím modelové bioindika ní skupiny brouk (Coleoptera). V prostoru primárního bezlesí arkto- alpinní tundry byl studován vliv sjezdových tratí a invazivní d eviny borovice kle e ( Pinus mugo ) na spole enstva brouk . Na území sekundárních bezlesí podhorských luk a pastvin byl hodnocen vliv zem dlského hospoda ení na brouky a další bezobratlé. Studium vlivu lyža ského areálu prokázalo, že p estože jsou sjezdové trat v alpínské zón zájmového území provozovány zp sobem šetrným k vegetaci, tak pr kazn m ní pvodní spole enstva epigeických brouk . -

S. de Medeiros1 & Cassandra G. Extavour1,2* Over the course of evolution, organism size has diversified markedly. Changes in size are thought to have occurred because of developmental, morphological and/or ecological pressures. To perform phylogenetic tests of the potential effects of these pressures, here we generated a dataset of more than ten thousand descriptions of insect eggs, and combined these with genetic and life-history datasets. We show that, across eight orders of magnitude of variation in egg volume, the relationship between size and shape itself evolves, such that previously predicted global patterns of scaling do not adequately explain the diversity in egg shapes. We show that egg size is not correlated with developmental rate and that, for many insects, egg size is not correlated with adult body size. Instead, we find that the evolution of parasitoidism and aquatic oviposition help to explain the diversification in the size and shape of insect eggs. Our study suggests that where eggs are laid, rather than universal allometric constants, underlies the evolution of insect egg size and shape. Size is a fundamental factor in many biological processes. The size of an 526 families and every currently described extant hexapod order24 organism may affect interactions both with other organisms and with (Fig. 1a and Supplementary Fig. 1). We combined this dataset with the environment1,2, it scales with features of morphology and physi- backbone hexapod phylogenies25,26 that we enriched to include taxa ology3, and larger animals often have higher fitness4. -
