Scudamore Vice-Chair, Western Australian Museum Board 08 September 2017 ANNUAL REPORT 2016–17 WESTERN AUSTRALIAN MUSEUM 5 MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR We live in a time of turbulent change, of economic uncertainty and the constant challenge of adapting our business practices to meet the constraints of ever decreasing resources. In such difficult circumstances, the Western Australian Museum has indeed been fortunate this year to consolidate many years of careful planning and actually begin work on building a new state museum for the benefit of future generations. The announcement of Brookfield delighted to witness the commitment Multiplex as the managing contractor of our Premier, the Hon Mark McGowan for the project, with its design team MLA, and Minister for Culture and the Emeritus Professor Alan Robson AO CitWA HASSELL + OMA, was met with Arts, the Hon David Templeman MLA, Chair, Western Australian Museum widespread acclaim. The concept design to the continued development of the Board of Trustees was dramatic and inspired, creating a New Museum with a public ceremony visual landmark for Western Australia. It is to mark the official commencement of our intention to set new benchmarks for major works. Purpose of Visit - The primary purpose of the visit to China was for Minister to attend the Tourism Ministers' meeting (TMM) scheduled in Beijing on Monday, 28 August 217 as part of the China­ Australia Year of Tourism. Additional meetings and activities were scheduled in China to build Western Australia's relationships with key partners and demonstrate the State's keenness to grow its market share in the area of tourism and in bound Chinese visitation. The Minister's visit to Singapore was to reinforce the State's long-term commitment to Singapore and position the State's tourism and event offering with media and trade, taking the opportunity to address the Singapore media during a general Press Conference and whilst hosting a VIP luncheon, in conjunction with the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, for senior editors from major Singaporean trade publications.
