Spartan Club Membership Adult Form 2008 SPARTAN CLUB • Who Are We? o The Spartan Club at Mount Tabor High School is the “team behind the teams.” We support all Mount Tabor High School athletic teams. o Our primary purposes are to: . promote school spirit; . improve MTHS’s playing facilities; . supply teams with needed equipment; . increase volunteer involvement in MTHS athletics; . fund projects benefiting the athletic teams. o We are a group of volunteers and donors who contribute to the success of our athletic teams and the positive experiences the teams instill in our student athletes. • Why Have a Spartan Club? o School funds do not cover all the expenses required to field competitive teams. The Spartan Club supplements the school funds so that MTHS can enhance the experiences and performances of our student athletes. o The Spartan Club members are critical to the success of each team. Every year the Spartan Club completes major projects that support our teams. Projects completed during the past few school years include: . New team chairs for gym (2005-2006) . Wrestling mats for new wrestling room (2005-2006) . Softball bleachers (2005-2006) . Purchase New Championship banners for Gym(2005-2006) . Outdoor baseball batting cage (2006-2007) . Purchase new refrigerator - outdoor concession stand (2006-2007) . Purchase ventilation fans for gym (2006-2007) . Paid off loan for the softball and practice field lights (2006-2007) . Tree wind barrier for tennis courts (2006-2007) . Indoor Ice Maker (2006-2007) . Add Hardwood Floor in Practice Gym (2007-2008) . Expand and renovate Indoor Concession Stand *2007-2008) . Floor Protection and Wrestling Mats (2007-2008) . Purchase John Deere Mini Tractor (2007-2008) . Purchase Portable Sound System (2007-2008) . Purchase new soccer goals (2207-2008) . Storage Building for Field hockey (2007-2008) . Award banquets for fall, winter, spring sports (Every Year) . Awards/Letters /Stars (Every Year) Projects planned during the 2007-2008 school year include: . Tennis Court Lights (3 courts) . Mission: Mount Tabor High School will provide students with an educational opportunity to become continuous learners who are proficient, responsible and productive citizens. History Mount Tabor High School was dedicated in 1965 before opening in 1966, when it served grades 7- 11, adding twelfth grade in 1967. W hen W S/FCS reorganized in 1971, Mount Tabor was designated a high school for grades 9-10. It remained this way until 1984, when it changed to its current 9-12 status. In 2004, the school was renovated and a new building was added, housing administrative and guidance offices, six science labs, an auditorium and several new classrooms. The media center was also expanded to include two computer labs, and the former auditorium was reconfigured to contain performing arts classrooms for band, chorus, dance, and orchestra. Today, Mount Tabor is home to over 1,500 students of diverse backgrounds who excel academically, artistically, and athletically.

    NORTH CAROLINA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS SPRING MEETING Tuesday, April 28, 2020 The spring meeting of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Board of Directors was called to order by President Brad Craddock at 8:04 a.m. virtually through Zoom. Members in attendance included Brad Craddock, Jerry Simmons, Sandy George, Ronnie Beverly, Neil Blankenship, Chris Blanton, Mark Byrd, Brian Edkins, Tim Foster, Michael Gainey, Stephen Gainey, Rob Jackson, John Luciano, Troy Lindsey, Fred Lynch, Cathy Moore, Masanori Toguchi, Joy Warner, and Bobby Wilkins. Affiliate members included Burt Jenkins of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Joe Franks of the North Carolina Coaches Association, David Brown of Piedmont Baseball Umpires Association representing Officials and Regional Supervisors, Vernon Aldridge representing the North Carolina High School Athletic Directors Association, and Wendell Hall who represents the North Carolina School Boards Association. NCHSAA staff in attendance included Commissioner Que Tucker, Karen DeHart, Mark Dreibelbis, Tra Waters, James Alverson, Brad Alford, Chiquana Dancy, Juli Kidd, Ken Brown and Pepper Hines. President Craddock noted that everything is uncertain and the way that schools across the state responded to COVID-19 makes him extremely proud. Changing educational delivery systems in just a little over a week has been a challenge, but they’ve risen to the occasion. Noted he enjoys the time that he gets to spend with the Board each year and the virtual platform will be more difficult, but the Board will make the best of the resources and time we do have. Highlighted that we lost the Basketball Championships and Spring Sports seasons and challenged the Board to remember the athletes throughout their discussion over the coming days.
