ATHLETIC PURPOSE STATEMENT (SACS-CASI) Southern Association of Colleges & Schools The Charlotte Christian School athletic department is committed to develop and the Council of Accreditation & School Improvement, Christ-like character among student athletes and encourage them to develop an accreditation division of AdvancED. their God-given athletic abilities to the maximum potential. VARSITY BOYS’ COACHES SHONN BROWN, VARSITY BOYS’ HEAD COACH ZACH GOODYEAR, VARSITY BOYS’ ASSISTANT COACH Coach Brown is in his 17th year coaching basketball at Charlotte Coach Goodyear is in his seventh year serving as an assistant Christian School, including one year as a co-head coach and 15 coach on the varsity basketball team. He studied political science years as the varsity boys’ head coach. In addition to his coaching at Ferrum College and Mississippi State University. History Mount Tabor High School was dedicated in 1965 before opening in 1966, when it served grades 7- 11, adding twelfth grade in 1967. W hen W S/FCS reorganized in 1971, Mount Tabor was designated a high school for grades 9-10. It remained this way until 1984, when it changed to its current 9-12 status. In 2004, the school was renovated and a new building was added, housing administrative and guidance offices, six science labs, an auditorium and several new classrooms. The media center was also expanded to include two computer labs, and the former auditorium was reconfigured to contain performing arts classrooms for band, chorus, dance, and orchestra. Today, Mount Tabor is home to over 1,500 students of diverse backgrounds who excel academically, artistically, and athletically.

Members in attendance included Brad Craddock, Jerry Simmons, Sandy George, Ronnie Beverly, Neil Blankenship, Chris Blanton, Mark Byrd, Brian Edkins, Tim Foster, Michael Gainey, Stephen Gainey, Rob Jackson, John Luciano, Troy Lindsey, Fred Lynch, Cathy Moore, Masanori Toguchi, Joy Warner, and Bobby Wilkins. Affiliate members included Burt Jenkins of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Joe Franks of the North Carolina Coaches Association, David Brown of Piedmont Baseball Umpires Association representing Officials and Regional Supervisors, Vernon Aldridge representing the North Carolina High School Athletic Directors Association, and Wendell Hall who represents the North Carolina School Boards Association. NCHSAA staff in attendance included Commissioner Que Tucker, Karen DeHart, Mark Dreibelbis, Tra Waters, James Alverson, Brad Alford, Chiquana Dancy, Juli Kidd, Ken Brown and Pepper Hines. President Craddock noted that everything is uncertain and the way that schools across the state responded to COVID-19 makes him extremely proud. Changing educational delivery systems in just a little over a week has been a challenge, but they’ve risen to the occasion. Noted he enjoys the time that he gets to spend with the Board each year and the virtual platform will be more difficult, but the Board will make the best of the resources and time we do have. Highlighted that we lost the Basketball Championships and Spring Sports seasons and challenged the Board to remember the athletes throughout their discussion over the coming days.
