JASON BRASHEAR MATH Mr. Brashear is a graduate of the University of at Greensboro. He holds dual degrees in math education and music percussion. For the past 13 years he has taught in Statesville, and at North West Middle School, and Parkland High School. He was recently married this past summer. Congratulations and Welcome Jason Brashear!!!

KIRSTEIN CHILDERS SOCIAL STUDIES A native of Florida, Mrs. Childers is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. She continues to work on her Master’s Degree through the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She joins our staff to teach World History and Civics. Mrs. Childers has great relationships with her students, and she is very creative. She played in college and will assist Coach Wesselman with our volleyball program. Mrs. Childers has a 100 lb. boxer! (That requires a lot of dog food!) Welcome Kirstein Childers!

MICHAELA COLON ENGLISH Mrs. Colon comes to us from the dark side…Davie County High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Cleveland State University, and her Master’s Degree in Technology and Leadership from Appalachian State University. She brings a cross-curricular attitude, and we are lucky to have “Stolen” her from the War Eagles, where she has taught all areas during the last 8 years. Mrs. Colon is excited to become a member of the Spartan family! Welcome Michaela Colon!

ADAM CROWNOVER SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. Crownover received his Bachelor’s Degree from Georgia State University, his Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee, and he has studied at Oxford. He has taught AP Government and Politics, Civics, US history, Geography, World, and even a little Spanish….so we he will provide a lot of depth to our school. Mr. Crownover taught four years at West High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, and last year as he served as a graduate assistant at University of Tennessee. He will assist Matt Smith and the girls’ soccer team this spring. Welcome Adam Crownover!!!

LORI CRUMP DANCE Ms. Crump is a native of Winston-Salem and a graduate of West Forsyth High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in dance education from East Carolina University. She also teaches at the Baylin Dance Studio in Clemmons. At the close of the 12-13 school year, she worked closely with Mrs. Phillis, our former dance instructor, on Dance Team try-outs, and now serves as our dance team coach. Mt. Tabor is really excited about having her join our staff. Welcome Lori Crump!

STEPHEN DIXON MAP AU Mr. Stephen Dixon is a graduate of Wake Forest University and has worked in the EC Program at Reagan High School for the past 4 years. Mr. Dixon will be assisting Tony Poindexter in our Multiple Abilities Program. He also works within the structure of the Driver’s Education program for WSFCS. Welcome Steve Dixon!!!

RYANE DUNNAGAN ORCHESTRA Does that name sound familiar? Dr. Dunnagan is the daughter of our former Media Coordinator, Mrs. Sharon Dunnagan, who retired several years ago. Dr. Dunnagan received her PhD from Georgia State University and joins us to teach orchestra. We also share her with Jefferson Middle School where she also teaches orchestra. She, too, is a Mt. Tabor graduate, and we are very excited about Dr. Dunnagan coming back to Tabor. Welcome Dr. Dunnagan!!!

HANNAH GILES SPANISH Ms. Giles will be our long term substitute for Mrs. Maribel Garcia who is on maternity leave until the first of October. Ms. Giles is also a graduate of Mt. Tabor and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She earned degrees in Political Science and Communication. Ms. Giles has studied in Spain and also has a minor in Spanish. She is thrilled to be here. Welcome Hannah Giles!!!

CHEZLEY GREER-ROYSTER EC OCS Mrs. Greer-Royster is a graduate of Mt. Tabor High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She furthered her education at High Point University. She comes to us most recently from the Downtown School. She has twelve years of experience with much diversity, teaching every grade except 10th and 12th. Welcome Chezley Greer-Royster!

LEAH HAYNES SPANISH Ms. Haynes was a student of one of the first classes of graduates from Parkland’s IB Diploma program. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Wake Forest University. She brings strong classroom management skills. Ms. Haynes has a background in Irish Dancing…that sounds fun! Welcome Leah Haynes!!!

EMILY HOULDITCH EC INCLUSION Mt. Tabor is very fortunate to have gained an additional EC allotment position which we filled with Ms. Houlditch. She will teach EC English Inclusion this year. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English; she received her Master’s Degree from Wake Forest University. This is Ms. Houlditch’s seventh year in education. She spent her first 4 years at Reagan in their English Department. She always has had affection for special needs students. Recently, she was nominated for a Teacher of the Year Award. She was also awarded the Promise Award for excellence in teaching. Welcome Emily Houlditch!

ANNA KASICKY SCIENCE A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ms. Kasicky earned her Bachelor’s Degree from St. Mary’s in Maryland, and her Master’s in science education from the University of Pittsburgh. Ms. Kasicky will be teaching science, and she is also going to assist with this fall. She enjoys rock climbing, and she has a sister who lives in Winston-Salem…it’s a small world! Welcome Anna Kasicky!!!

EILEEN KRUEGER ENGLISH Mrs. Krueger received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in English from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has fifteen years of teaching experience. She is a former Teacher of the Year in 2008 at NW Cabarrus Middle School. She is recognized in Who’s Who of American Teachers. Her strengths include her positive, strong relationships with students, a sense of humor, and writing. In her spare time she enjoys reading, gardening, and playing with her dachshunds, Ella and Oscar. Welcome Eileen Krueger!!!

HATTIE MILLER EC OPA Ms. Miller graduated from Mt. Tabor in 2008 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in psychology from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Ms. Miller will take on the position as job coach in our EC Department. She is very excited to re-join the Spartan family. She not only joins the Mt. Tabor family as teacher, but also as a daughter! Her father, Mr. Wayne Miller, and her mother, Mrs. Corrette Miller, are also teachers here. Our Tabor family now has three staff members from the same family!!! Welcome Hattie Miller!!!

PHILLIP MULLIS ENGLISH Mr. Mullis comes to us from Wiley Middle School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in public relations from Appalachian State University. He will also serve as our yearbook advisor. Mr. Mullis has a lot of energy and brings many talents to Mt. Tabor; he has hit the ground running! Mr. Mullis plays many instruments and has played in various diverse bands…from heavy metal to blue grass. He also enjoys volunteering for the Boys Scouts of America. Welcome Phillip Mullis!!!

KAYLA RAY MATH Mrs. Ray is a graduate of High Point University. She worked at Eastern Randolph High School for the past two school years. Her former principal shared that Mrs. Ray works well with others; she is knowledgeable of her content, reserved, and always positive! Her former principal said she would be sorely missed. Mrs. Ray is certainly Mt. Tabor’s gain! Welcome Kayla Ray!!!

SARA SCHUBERT ENGLISH A native of Pennsylvania, Ms. Schubert is a graduate of Wake Forest University. This is her first year teaching, and she joins our English Department. Her strengths include a great rapport with students, knowledge of content, and she is a hard worker. Ms. Schubert is also going to assist Greg Fisher in our program! Welcome Sara Schubert!!!!

MATT STARKEY SCIENCE A graduate of California University in Pennsylvania, Mr. Starkey comes to us by way of Page High School in Greensboro, where he was a High School Freshman Teacher of the Year Nominee. He is a teacher who has great rapport with students, creative lessons, and makes great connections with faculty. Welcome Matt Starkey!

MELISSA TRAVIS LATIN Ms. Travis is a graduate of Tulane University, and she is currently finishing up her Master’s Degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She last taught at Western Guilford High School. Ms. Travis will join our Foreign Language Department teaching all levels of Latin. She is excited to be a part of our Spartan family, and she is even more excited that she got engaged over the summer! Congratulations and welcome Melissa Travis!!!

JUDY UHRIG MEDIA COORDINATOR The entire Spartan family is overjoyed to welcome Mrs. Uhrig back to Mt. Tabor. She will serve as our new Media Coordinator. She had previously worked here as our media assistant. She received both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Appalachian State University. She is very committed to helping our faculty as we embark on the Mobile Learning Community Initiative. Mrs. Uhrig brings a lot of energy, a lot of fun, and we really look forward to the excitement she brings to our media center. Welcome Home Judy Uhrig!

LOWANA WADE LIFE SKILLS AND HEALTH Ms. Wade returns to Mt. Tabor from a 10 year stint at Ferndale Middle School in Guilford County. She is such a great addition back to our faculty, and we are really excited about her rejoining the Spartan family. Ms. Wade will also be coaching JV Girls and doing Red Cross and SADD clubs. She played women’s tackle football with the Carolina Phoenix semi- professional team, and they WON the 2013 IWFL World Championship in Texas!…so students watch out…. You best behave in her class! Welcome Lowana Wade!!!

BUCK WATKINS SOCIAL STUDIES Mr. Watkins received his Bachelor’s Degree in political science from Seton Hill University in Greenburg, Pennsylvania, and received his Master’s Degree from Wayland Baptist University in Texas. He has great connections with students, a strong work ethic; he is passionate and reliable. Mr. Watkins will be assisting Jamie Kota with our wrestling team. He has a black belt in mixed martial arts, and his claim to fame is he has wrestled a 4 ½ foot long alligator…and he won! So students, beware! Welcome Buck Watkins!!!

BETH WHITTLE EC ASSISTANT Mrs. Whittle joins our staff to serve as an EC assistant and she will over see our testing center. She is a native of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Whittle graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in Economics. She has two sons and enjoys playing and reading. Welcome Beth Whittle!

SO LONG MRS. TEAGUE L Mrs. Mitzi Teague leaves us to take a new position with the WSFCS in our Human Resources Department. She has served faithfully as an EC assistant at Mt. Tabor the past thirteen years. In her time with us she has worked with visually impaired students and been our testing center coordinator. She will be sorely missed. Our loss is certainly central office’s gain. Good luck Mrs. Teague… We will miss you!!

BEWARE!!! Juniors and seniors…make sure you have purchased your parking permit by Friday, September 6th! Beginning Monday, September 9th, all juniors and/or seniors who have not purchased a parking permit, but are parking on Mt. Tabor's campus, will be warned with a notification placed on their vehicles. PARKING ON MT TABOR CAMPUS IN ANY AREA, INCLUDING THE VISITOR’S PARKING SLOTS, IS NOT ALLOWED FOR ANY SOPHOMORE OR FRESHMAN AT ANYTIME DURING THE REGULAR SCHOOL DAY BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:50AM - 3:40PM. VEHICLES WILL BE TOWED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE IMMEDIATELY.

SUM M ER READING TEST INFORM ATION Students who have English in the spring can take their summer reading test early on September 9th, at either 7:30am or 3:45pm. They must sign up on the sheets provided in the 100 hall by the large bulletin board near room 104. They must sign up by September 6th.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL Interested in playing girls’ Basketball?? Come to an interest meeting next Wednesday, September 4th, at 3:50pm, in Ms. Wade’s room #307. Any girl who plans to try out for the team will need to attend this meeting. It will only last around ten minutes. W RESTLING Students interested in joining the wrestling team need to see Coach Kota or Coach Watkins ASAP. Preseason workouts will start the week of Sept 3rd-6th. Students are required to have a current physical and have paper work on file. Completed forms are to be given to Mrs. Palmer in room 315.

EBONY SOCIETY The Ebony Society will hold its first meeting of the school year on September 5th, at 3:50pm, in room 512.

STAND STAND is now open for membership for this year! Stand will hold its first meeting of the school year on Thursday, September 5th, at either 8:15am or 3:45pm, in room 104. STAND advocates for victims of human rights violations around the world and is one of the largest clubs at Tabor! Join us this year! Applications are available on the bulletin board in the 100 hall by room 104.

TRAVEL OPPORTUNITIES:

TRAVEL WITH MS. SCHAEFER SUMMER 2014!!! Travel to Spain and Morocco in June of 2014! Students and adults are welcome! The price rises soon, so come to the interest meeting on September 10th (moved from the 3rd) at 7:00pm, in room 104. Find out how you can make this great journey! TRAVEL WITH MR. A. SMITH SUMMER 2014!!! Mr. A. Smith is sponsoring another trip to Costa Rica in the summer of 2014. Even though he has left Tabor for UNCSA - Mr. Smith is still traveling with students for two more summers (Costa Rica, 2014 and Greece, 2015). Mr. A. Smith has traveled to Costa Rica twice in past years with students and their families. Enrollment is open to all Tabor students, family members, and any non-Spartan friends from anywhere in the United States. This trip is always rewarding and successful. Students, friends, and family members will enjoy eco-tourism at its finest. We will be touring rain and cloud forests, zip-lining through lush vegetation, swimming along the Pacific coast, seeing an array of amazing flora and fauna, visiting volcanic hot springs, and kayaking. Travelers will also have opportunity to visit a local elementary school in Costa Rica and plant trees to restore the rainforest. It is a cultural experience you shouldn't miss.
