I began to experience what my wife, Taffi, called "holy frustration." By every usual standard of measure, everything was going just right. The Word coming from the pulpit was good, revelation knowledge was flowing freely, and people were being delivered and set free during every service. But for a couple of nights, I went home and could neither rest nor sleep. When I told my wife about it, she said it sounded as if something was about to be born from within me. She reminded me that the last time I had such an experience, World Changers Ministries was transformed from vision to reality. As I began to pray, study, and seek the Lord, one of the questions I asked God was, "What if a man wanted to know exactly what he needed to do in order to prosper? What would You tell him?" In response to my question, God birthed in my spirit a revelation of the 14 steps to prosperity contained in this book. I encourage you to make a quality decision right now to follow the steps I've shared within these pages. They are vii TOTAL LIFE PROSPERITY designed to change your finances, your marriage, your family, and your world for the better. This book, like all the others I've written, is based on the Word of God. I am nothing apart from the Word, I can do nothing apart from the Word, and I can write nothing apart from the Word. To effectively read this book, keep your Bible close by. So, get your Bible, get into an attitude of receiving, and get ready to increase in the Word of God. viii INTRODUCTION oney is usually the first thing that comes to mind Mwhen the subject of prosperity is brought up. We've been conditioned by the world to believe that a person with a lot of money is prosperous, and if prosperous, then certainly happy. No doubt about it, having the funds to go wherever you want and do and buy whatever you please is a good thing— but it's not everything. To think about money when you hear the word prosperity is not incorrect, just incomplete. You see, a person can have a million dollars in his bank account and still suffer from the ravaging effects of cancer throughout his body. Having plenty of money is the world's limited idea of prosperity, not God's. What good does it do for you to have enough money to purchase the best medical care and still not be able to lay hold of the divine health promised to you by God? Jesus came to give you abundance in your home, body, workplace, and family—not just in your wallet. And while people desire to be financially well off, they sometimes reject the message of prosperity because they associate it with greed and view it as a message intended solely for the preacher's benefit. ix TOTAL LIFE PROSPERITY Perhaps you've been told that money is the root of all evil. Really? That's not what the Word of God says. If you look at 1 Timothy 6:10, you'll see that it reads, "For the love of money is the root of all evil" (italics added). The prosperity message, if taught from a truly biblical perspective, speaks of much more than acquiring money. You see, God is concerned with every aspect of your life. In fact, this book is more about letting go of your money than holding on to it. It's about loving your neighbor enough that you can willingly extend that with which you've been blessed toward someone else. Now, that's biblical prosperity! It's time for us as Christians to have our minds renewed to reflect the good and perfect will of God. We should hear the conclusion of the whole matter rather than limit God to what He can do in our lives. Biblical prosperity is the ability to be in control of every circumstance and situation that occurs in your life. No matter what happens, whether financial, social, physical, marital, spiritual, or emotional, this type of prosperity enables you to maintain control in every situation. I'll even go a step farther and define biblical prosperity as "having God's ability to meet not only your needs, but also the needs of mankind, regardless of what those needs may be." You can prosper financially, but you can also prosper in your spirit, soul, body, marriage, and life in general. How? Through the Word of God. Take David, for example. David was a man after God's own heart and, as such, reflects God's intent for us in His Word. Look at David's petition to the Lord concerning his ability to prosper. He said, x INTRODUCTION Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. (Ps. 119:133 NKJV) Few people realize it, but David was praying for biblical prosperity. He was asking the Lord to direct his steps according to the Word of God. His supplication was that no evil, sin, or wickedness be allowed to have authority over him. And if you're familiar with the account of his life as told in 1 and 2 Samuel, you know it took more than money to deliver him from the many challenges he faced. David was praying for control over everything he had to deal with, from uncircumcised Philistines to his unforgiving father-in-law. Glory to God! The iniquity facing David in his day may be different from what you're going through, but the end result is the same: lack of control. Anything in your life that controls you instead of your controlling it should be considered iniquity. The Word of God calls for you to be the head and not the tail (Deut. 28:13), and more than a conqueror (Rom. 8:37). The good news, child of God, is that an anointing is available to put you in control of all your circumstances. You are an heir to the Lord's promises, and David's prayer for dominion over his life has been granted to you through the Word of God. He has sent His Word to put back into your hands the things that have been wrestled from you. No longer do poverty, sickness, addiction, and fear have free course to rule and reign in your life. You no longer have to allow the circumstances of marital discord, rebellious children, or unemployment to dominate your household. xi TOTAL LIFE PROSPERITY If there are any areas of your life where you need to get back in the driver's seat, read and follow the precepts I lay out here in Total Life Prosperity. Meditate on the 14 practical steps to prospering in God, and get on the road to health, prosperity, and peace of mind. God has truly given you the opportunity to lay hold of the abundant life.

Phillips Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary, 2015 Mentor: Dr. Charlie Davidson The prosperity gospel teaches that the Bible promises health, wealth and uncommon success to all believers. A problem surfaces when the prosperity that is promised does not materialize to all members of the congregation. In examining the validity of this teaching, extensive writings, books, articles and sermons by leading proponents, have been reviewed. Additionally, interviews with at least one hundred pastors inform this writing. The purpose of the research is to furnish contemporary, active insight to this project. The conclusion of this writer is that the prosperity gospel offers an unbalanced application of scripture, which results in a departure from a clear biblical orientation for articulating the doctrine of Jesus Christ.

  • 4 Simple Ways to Identify the Prosperity Gospel
4 Simple Ways to Identify the Prosperity Gospel The prosperity gospel is also sometimes called the health and wealth gospel, word-faith theology, or simply the faith movement. The prosperity gospel comes in different shapes and sizes, but at the heart of it is the teaching that God desires all Christians to prosper in every aspect of their lives. While this includes prospering in things like having healthy relationships, those who teach some version of prosperity theology usually emphasize financial and physical health. If you ask someone if they affirm prosperity teaching, they usually won’t admit it. So, how do you know if someone is simply affirming the biblical truth that God is our provider and that God heals, or if they are moving into prosperity teaching? © 2017 AndrewKGabriel.com How can you identify the prosperity gospel? These four factors won’t guarantee that you have found a prosperity teacher, but they will help you identify if you might be in the presence of one. 1) Key Phrases Those who have an emphasis on the health and wealth gospel tend to use speak of: • Divine destiny • Divine health • Divine wealth • Declaring your faith • Releasing your faith • Speaking A, B, or C over your life • Declaring A, B, or C over your life 2) The Church Name While it isn’t always the case, churches that have the prosperity gospel as an underlying theme (it’s not always explicit) sometimes have names like: • Victory Center • Word of Faith Church • World Changers • Winners Church • Overcoming Faith Church © 2017 AndrewKGabriel.com 3) The

FFRF is a national nonprofit dedicated to defending the constitutional separation between state and church, and educating the public about matters related to nontheism. On June 17, 2020, FFRF filed a request for the records of all churches and religious organizations that received loans provided by the CARES Act. We are now filing this second request for records of funds given to specific churches and religious organizations. Since churches are not required to file documentation with the federal government, it is difficult to make this request with specificity. For instance, these houses of worship might be incorporated in states where their principal church is not located, but it is difficult to determine because of the total lack of government oversight. To assist the records custodian in identifying these records, we have provided EINs, addresses, and names of clergy representing the houses of worship where possible. These may not match the legal entities that applied to SBA for assistance. To be clear, we are requesting all records of all SBA forgivable loans that were provided to any of the churches or church representatives listed below, or their affiliates. This request is in addition to our earlier FOIA request and does not abrogate that request in any way.

  • Word-Faith Movement (Positive Confession Movement)
Word-Faith Movement (Positive Confession Movement) History, Beliefs, and Practices Identity: A movement (not a denomination as such) whose proponents teach that divine health and prosperity are the rights of every Christian who will apply enough faith to receive them. Popularized by television evangelists, the Word-Faith movement urges the appropriation of faith through the making of a “positive confession.” The movement is otherwise referred to as “Prosperity Gospel,” “Health and Wealth Gospel,” and “Name It and Claim It.” Founder(s): The movement has no “founders” as such, though Essek William Kenyon (1867-1948) is often credited with laying the foundation for the Word-Faith movement. Identified as subscribing to Word-Faith teaching are personalities such as Paul and Jan Crouch (Trinity Broadcasting Network), David Yonggi Cho, Kenneth and Gloria Copeland, John Avazani, Joel Osteen, T. L. Osborne, Robert Tilton, Marilyn Hickey, Frederick Price, Benny Hinn, Oral Roberts, Jerry Savelle, Morris Cerullo, Casey Treat, Dwight Thompson, Rodney Howard-Browne,and Kenneth Hagin. Word-Faith ideas are featured and promulgated through television principally by the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Statistics: No statistics on the number of followers is available. History: The beginnings of the Word [of] Faith or Positive Confession Movement can be traced to the writings of the radio preacher and Methodist minister William Essek Kenyon (1867- 1948). He wrote about fifteen books in which he “stressed the power of words spoken in faith and the supremacy of a so-called revelation knowledge over knowledge obtained by the senses: ‘A strong confession [of positive faith]…brings God on the scene…Faith counts the thing done before God has acted.

  • Reconsidering the Form 990 Exemption
MONTAGUE.35.1 (Do Not Delete) 10/9/2013 6:22 PM THE LAW AND FINANCIAL TRANSPARENCY IN CHURCHES: RECONSIDERING THE FORM 990 EXEMPTION John Montague† Most tax-exempt organizations are required to file the IRS Form 990, an information return that is open to the public. The Form 990 is used by watchdogs and donors to learn detailed financial information about charities. However, churches are exempt from filing the Form 990 and need not disclose any financial information to the IRS, the public, or their donors. In December 2012, the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability recommended to Senator Charles Grassley that Congress should preserve the exemption, despite recent financial scandals at churches. Examining the legislative history, this Article argues that the primary function of the information return has become its utility to donors, and policymakers have recognized the role that public access can play in keeping nonprofits honest and efficient. Unfortunately, because churches do not have to be transparent or accountable, few of them are. Using research and insights from sociology, this Article contends that because of their opacity and the unique nature of religious authority, churches are more likely to foster and shelter malfeasance. Churchgoers are unlikely to challenge leaders because doing so can endanger their position in the religious community, making it imperative that transparency be mandated by outside authorities. Ironically, increased transparency may actually be good for churches because, as studies suggest, it is likely to increase donations and because, by minimizing opportunities for financial improprieties, it may preserve the religious experience of churchgoers. In addition, transparency is consistent with the teaching of many Christian leaders and with the expressed preferences of a large portion of churchgoers.

  • Senator Grassley's Review of Six Tax-Exempt Ministries Charlene
GRASSLEY 1 Congressional Oversight of the Nonprofit Sector: Senator Grassley’s Review of Six Tax-Exempt Ministries Charlene D. Orchard University of Utah * Draft Date: March 22, 2013. Abstract In a 2011 press release, Senator Charles Grassley stated, “The tax-exempt sector is so big that from time to time, certain practices draw public concern. My goal is to help improve accountability and good governance so tax-exempt groups maintain public confidence in their operations.” Since his election to the Senate in 1980, the Iowa Republican has developed a reputation for being a “good government guy,” and one instance of his work in this area was a multi-year review of six tax-exempt ministries. This paper discusses challenges faced in providing oversight of the nonprofit sector generally and of churches in particular. The case of Grassley’s investigation of tax-exempt ministries reveals the promise but mostly the perils of such a crusade, especially if reelection is a goal. Key Words: nonprofit organizations, nonprofit sector, governance, accountability, the electoral connection GRASSLEY 2 Congressional Oversight of the Nonprofit Sector: Senator Grassley’s Review of Six Tax-Exempt Ministries Private jets, $350,000 Bentleys, multiple vacation homes, Rolls Royces, cosmetic surgeries, a $23,000 marble top for a commode, $20 million headquarters, and multi-million dollar mansions for CEOs. These are not characteristics one would expect of tax-exempt, nonprofit organizations and certainly not of religious institutions. Yet reports of lavish lifestyles among leaders of some churches have come into Senator Charles Grassley’s office over the years. As a leading member and former chair of the Senate Finance Committee, Grassley investigated nonprofits such as the Nature Conservancy, the United Way, and the Red Cross, and has been the go-to member of congress for all things nonprofit and tax-exempt.
