FACTS ABOUT BAJA CALIFORNIA Baja California is a peninsula located in Northwestern Mexico, between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. Since time immemorial, it has been a pathway for the Cucapá, Kumiai, Kiliwa, Pai Pai and Cochimí indigenous groups, which have bequeathed us their ancestral wisdom through their cosmogonic myths and their worldwide known cave paintings. The European explorers arrived to the region in the XV century. Among them were Jesuit, Franciscan, and Dominican missionaries; “gambusinos” seeking fortune, engineers and prospectors that delimited their land; and pioneers from all over the world that transformed an unexplored deserted territory into a defying challenge project of life. Baja California, located to the north of the peninsula, is nowadays an entity that collides with the United States of America, strategically, with the State of California. Our entity is vibrant in the diversity of its people: Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Jewish, Spaniard, Italian, Latin American, English and Korean, among others. This widely diverse community joined efforts to build a dynamic and progressive entity, which is socially, culturally, politically and economically developed at a national level. Baja California is formed by five Municipalities, each of them with Its own particular characteristics.
