FROM THE EAST Brethren, Hi all, The Annual Communications of Grand Lodge was held as a virtual meeting on the 10th and 11th of October. The new Grand Master is M.W. Arthur Harold Weiss. Worshipful Michael Padilla, our Inspector, was installed as the Senior Grand Steward. Continuning as a Grand Officer are: Very Worshipful Rickey Lawler, a member of our Lodge, as Grand Lecturer and Worshipful Victor Ropac as Assist Grand Lecturer for Division 8. Congratulations to all Grand Lodgers for 2020-2021; Per the Grand Master, we can only have virtual Stated Meetings w/o and ritual. So our November meeting will be on the 5th of November. Grand Lodge as set up the invitation to the Stated Meeting on their web site. You need to go to https://member.freemason.org. If you have not register it is easy to do and they will help you through. You need to then click on “Feed” and after you have read the invitation, you need to click on event and then register for the Stated Meeting. This is being done to make sure we have at least 5 Master Masons and have either the Sr. Warden or Jr. Warden in attendance. We do not currently have a Master of the Lodge. The Stated will be pretty much cut and dry. The Secretary will read the last minutes from April until October regarding the authorizing and paying of bills. THERE WILL BE NO RITUAL. When the business is completed, we will then have election of Officers for the Lodge, the Temple Board and the Trustees. We have been approached by Elk Grove Lodge #173, if we would be interested in having a joint Installation of Officers. The members can make that decision at the Stated Meeting. This will be a virtual Installation which has been approved by the Grand Master and the Grand Lecturer has the script for the Installation We hope that all our members and wives have a Happy Thanksgiving. The same extended to our other masonic groups. Fraternally, Editor The Masonic Trowel is a monthly publication of Riverside Lodge No. 635, F&AM, a non-profit Fraternal Organization. WORDS OF WISDOM “A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” George Bernard Shaw “The only way that we anc live is if we grow. The only way we can grow is if we change. The only way we can change is if we learn. The only way we can learn is if we are exposed. And the only way that we are exposed is if we throw ourselves into the open.” C. Joybell “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.” Albert Einstein “The most beautiful people we have known are those who have known defeat, known suffering, known struggler, known loss, and have found their way out of the depths. These persons have an appreciation, sensitivity, and an understanding of life that fills them with compassion, gentleness, and a deep loving concern. Beautiful people do not just happen.” Elisabeth Kubler-Ross “Falling in love is not a choice. To stay in love is.” Unknown “I would rather die a meaningful death than to live a meaningless life.” Corazon Aquino “Guard well your thoughts when alone and your words when accompanied.” Roy T. Bennett “I like to listen. I have learned a great deal from listening carefully. Most people never listen.” Ernest Hemingway “Look for a long time at what pleases you, and longer still at what pains you...” Colette “The worst part of being okay is that okay is far from happy.” Anna Todd “If you do not have control over your mouth, you will not have control over your future.” Germany Kent “Be true to your teeth and they won't be false to you.” Soupy Sales Riverside Chapter #622 OES, Meets 2nd & 4th Monday Worthy Matron - Cynthia Renner, WM, (951) 892-5513 Worthy Patron - Robert Hollstein, WP High Twelve Club Contact: James Scribner 951-235-5403 Riverside High Twelve Club #115 now meets on the 4th Friday of the Month; Flo’s Restaurant @11:30am located at 5620 Van Buren Blvd. Helen G. The first Thanksgiving was actually a three-day affair. 2. Colonists and Native Americans may not have had turkey at their feast. 3. Part of Plymouth, Mass., looks just as it did in the 17th century. 4. Thomas Jefferson refused to declare Thanksgiving a holiday. 5. The woman behind "Mary Had a Little Lamb" is also responsible for Thanksgiving's recognition as a national holiday. 6.The first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade didn't feature any balloons. 7. We have a Good Housekeeping illustrator to thank for the parade's first balloons. Which was in late 1920’s. 8. In 1939, Thanksgiving was celebrated on the third Thursday in November — not the fourth. 9. A Thanksgiving mix-up inspired the first TV dinners. 10. Americans prepare 46 million turkeys for Thanksgiving each year. 11.But not everyone eats turkey on Thanksgiving.12. You might consume up to 229 grams fat during the big meal. 13. America’s first turkey trot took place more than a century ago. 14. Runners at a Dallas turkey trot set a world record by dressing up as turkeys. 15. The turkeys pardoned by the president go on to live fulfilling lives. 16. Only male turkeys actually gobble. 17. Turkeys are (kind of) named after the country. Ottoman Empire and were similar to Guinea Fowl 18. Most Americans prefer Thanksgiving leftovers to the actual meal. 19. The Butterball Turkey Talk Line answers almost 100,000 calls each season. 20. Canada also celebrates Thanksgiving — but on a different day. 21. Four places in the country bear the name Turkey. 22. Americans eat an estimated 50 million pumpkin pies on Thanksgiving. 23. Black Friday is the busiest day of the year for plumbers. 24. Over 32 million people begin Black Friday shopping on Thanksgiving. 25. Thanksgiving's history isn't all sunny. Before you tuck into your turkey and stuffing, take a moment to remember that Thanksgiving didn't come about entirely peacefully. After the pilgrims arrived, years of conflict took place between European settlers and the Wampanoag people, which resulted in the deaths of millions of Native people. The only reason the pilgrims could even settle in Plymouth was because the Wampanoag population had been devastated by disease, virtually wiped out by a plague European settlers brought with them years before.
