The prospective members of Oberon Youth Council (OYC) played a huge role in the very successful “Christmas at the Common” just before Christmas. The weather was kind, there was plenty of music and song provided by Ian Gordon, Kurt Booth, Chloe Swannell, Joyce Thurgood and community members. The OYC organised egg and spoon races, sack and three legged races and stoically subjected themselves to the wet sponge throwing competition. Lots of fun and prizes for all. To the delight of the younger members Lucy Voerman who manned the face painting table of the community Santa paid a visit and distributed goodie bags as well as getting some inside information on what Oberon children would like for Christmas. Mums and dads browsed the stalls and settled for a picnic supper on the grass whilst the Youth Council members organised face painting for the children. The aim of the Youth Council, was to get the word out re their activities. Members raised $290 from a BBQ which will be donated to Cancer Council of NSW for research into childhood cancers. If you would like to be part of OYC or would like more information please contact Kathy Beesley at Council 6329 8100 or Kathy Sajowitz on 0419231525.
