Club News With a slightly better week’s weather, there’s a little more cricket included in this week’s newsletter… The U15s won their 1st round match in the county cup competition, the U11s won their first league match and the Sunday friendly XI managed to complete its first match of the season too. However both senior league teams were rained off on Saturday as were the U13s in their cup match on Thursday.

Club Social With the advanced forecast looking good for the weekend we will be having our first social of the season on Saturday evening. We will be firing up the barbecue and the bar will be open all evening. Kwik-Cricket equipment will be available for the children to entertain themselves while parents can relax with a drink. The social will start when the 2nd XI fixture finishes which should be around 7pm but please feel free to come down earlier and watch some of the cricket.

New Changing Block Thank to Warfield Parish Council for their donation of £150 which we received this week. The money will contribute to our new changing block fund.

Senior Availability We are very keen to see more U15s and U17s starting to play senior cricket. If you haven’t already done so, please register on the website and update your availability. Sunday friendly cricket is an ideal introduction to the longer form of the game. Please see one of the coaches if you would like any more information.

Results 1st XI Saturday 10th May v Chalfont St Giles (home) – Abandoned

Binfield 28-3 (9.4 overs)

Binfield 1st XI lost the toss and were invited to bat first but a rain interruption during the tenth brought proceedings to an early conclusion. Despite extensive mopping up operations, it was not possible to resume play.

2nd XI Saturday 10th May v Chalfont St Giles (away) - Cancelled

Friendly XI Sunday 11th May v Stroke Makers (home)

Binfield 139 all out Stroke Makers 110 all out

Binfield were grateful to Paul Edgington (82) and Mikey Allan-Canty (29) for the bulk of their disappointing total of 139 all out. No other Binfield batsman reached double figures. Stroke Makers looked to be cruising to victory at 94 for 3 when Gary Chippendale and Steve Andrews were brought on to bowl. Gary took four and Steve three as Stroke Makers innings collapsed to leave Binfield as victors by 29 runs.

Midweek XI No fixture Binfield Cricket Club Berkshire Stags (VI) No fixture

U9 No fixture

U11 Friday 9th May v Wokingham (BYCL)

Binfield 101-6 (20 overs) Wokingham 90 all out (19.3 overs)

The U11s enjoyed a victory over Wokingham in their first league match of the season. Wokingham won the toss and asked Binfield to bat first and Binfield got off to a great start through Billy Barnby and Daniel Humphrey who put on 33 for the first . Kamran Khanna, batting at number three, batted beautifully for his 25 (retired) and he was well supported by Amelia Humphrey and Lewis Hall. The first five Binfield batsmen all reached double figures (well almost!) and provided the bulk of the Binfield total of 101. In reply, Binfield’s bowlers got rewards when they pitched the ball up to the bat and with wickets falling at regular intervals it was always going to be a close finish. The quality of the Binfield fielding varied enormously with some careless runs given away but two direct hit run-outs (from Billy Barnby and Amelia Humphrey) were of the highest quality. With wickets falling it gave Wokingham’s retired batsman an opportunity to return to the wicket. A fantastic 19th over delivered by Daniel Humphrey swung the match in Binfield’s favour and it was Amelia Humphrey who closed out the match by clean bowling Wokingham’s last batsman from the third ball of the final over. Wickets were shared amongst the bowlers with Kamran Khanna taking two and Joel Snelling, Harry Jones, Billy Barnby, Daniel Humphrey and Amelia Humphrey taking one each. Special mention goes to Kiertan Solanki for a fantastic performance behind the stumps which undoubtedly played a huge part in Binfield’s victory.

U13 – Sunday No fixture

U13 – Monday No fixture

U15 Monday 5th May v Hurley (BYCL Cup)

Hurley 92-5 (20 overs) Binfield 94-2 (14 overs)

The very young Binfield U15 team (containing five U13s!) comfortably beat Hurley in the first round of the county cup. Hurley batted first and reached a respectable total of 92 for the loss of five wickets from their 20 overs. U13s Thomas Nower and Joel Valentin both bowled well and Callum George did remarkably well for his first time behind the stumps. In reply Binfield reached their target with 6 overs to spare thanks to two fine innings from Callum George (31) and Harry Lee (47 ).
