PURCHASING eBOOKS

1. We have created a video that will help walk you through these instructions. It is posted to the eBooks Instructions page under the Course Catalog on our website 2. Unlock the student’s iPad and open the Safari application 3. In the URL box, type “pearsonprivateschools.com” and press Go 4. In the box, type the school’s zip code. St. Mary’s zip code is 01902 5. Scroll down and click on St. Mary’s High School 6. Click on the subject that you would like to select. For example, if you would like to purchase an Algebra book, click Math 7. Depending on which course you are taking, type a 1 into the box to the right of the textbook information. Click Continue 8. To order another book, click Continue Shopping in the upper left corner of the screen 9. Choose your next subject, add to the cart as determined by your course list, and repeat until all of the books that you may purchase through Pearson are in your shopping cart 10. Please note that there are extra instructions to the left of each list of books by subject. These instructions may help you choose which book is correct for your subject. For example, Spanish IV still uses a book for Spanish III 11. Once you have placed the correct books into your cart, click Checkout to complete your purchase. 12. If you have more than one child attending St. Mary’s, it is important that you make two or more separate purchases. Please do not combine the books for two or more students into one order 13. Please note that you will not be able to view your until you have downloaded the Pearson iPad application

DOWNLOADING THE PEARSON iPAD APPLICATION

1. Unlock the student’s iPad and click on the App Store application 2. Type in Pearson eText and press Go 3. Download the Pearson eText app by clicking the button that says Free. You will have to enter your Apple ID and password in order for the download to start 4. Once Pearson eText has downloaded, launch the app and login with the username and password you created when purchasing your books on the Pearson website 5. Your books will be available in the app once teachers have enrolled students in their class and authorized the textbooks. Teachers may not enroll students until the first day of school, so you may not be able to access your book until school starts iBooks

Before purchasing books on iTunes you will need to add money to the iTunes account associated with the student’s device. If you wish you can preview the texts you are buying and it will tell you what the iBook costs. You can then figure out how much your total iTune purchases will be. Please keep in mind the apps we are asking you to download may cost money. Please figure that into the total you add to your iTunes account.

If your course lists the textbook as an iBook, this means you will need to buy it on iTunes. Below are some steps to follow:

1. On the student’s iPad, go to the iTunes store. 2. In the search bar type in the name of the textbook required for your course: e.g.: if you are taking Algebra I the textbook is called Algebra I so type that in the search bar. 3. You may also find this item in iTunes by clicking the link for your book provided in the Course Catalog. 4. Several textbooks may appear with that name. We have provided you with a screen shot of what the textbook looks like. Select the book that matches the picture provided. 5. When you tap on the book it will ask you to open iBooks to view and download text – select open. You should see the book preview appear after a few moments. 6. Select the button with the price of the book to purchase the book. The button will turn green and say BUY BOOK. Press this button to purchase the book. 7. iTunes will ask you for your Apple ID password before it will download into your iBooks Library. 8. Your iBook will be stored within the iBooks library.

Please note that these instructions are for only those students who are downloading books for all levels of Religion for grades 9–11. Religion CPI for grade 12 will also follow these instructions. Marian Division and Bio-Ethics course books are not available through this publisher.

DOWNLOADING THE iPAD APPLICATION

1. While the student’s iPad is connected to a stable WiFi network, open the iPad App Store 2. In the App Store, please search for “Kno Textbooks” 3. Under the results for “iPad Apps”, tap on the result for “Kno Textbooks” 4. On the app page, please tap on “install” underneath the Kno logo 5. After tapping on install, you will be prompted to enter your AppleID information; please do so accordingly 6. After entering your AppleID information, you should be taken back to your iPad’s home screen where you should see the application being installed

CREATING AN ACCOUNT

1. First download the iPad application from the iPad App Store (see above) 2. Once the app has finished installing onto the student’s iPad, please tap on the app icon to open it 3. You will receive a pop up message stating “’Kno Textbooks’ would like to use your current location.” Tap OK 4. Read through the welcome messages and tap “Next” accordingly 5. After clearing the messages, you will be taken back to the app’s home screen, also known as the Course Manager 6. Please wait for a few minutes for the sample eTextbooks and to download in “My Stuff” and “Kno 101” (Note: “My Stuff” will have “Kno Start Here”; “Kno 101” will have “Science Fusion”, “Biology”, “How to add a PDF” “Gestures Cheat Sheet”, and “Getting Social with Kno”) 7. Once these have all successfully downloaded and appear with a bright/vivid cover in the app, please tap on “Sign In” in the upper right hand corner 8. In the “Register or Sign in” pop up box that appears, please be sure you are under the “Register” field (Note: It will be highlighted blue when it is selected) 9. Fill in the appropriate fields for Step 1 10. Tap on “Continue” 11. Fill in the appropriate fields for Step 2 12. Read the “Terms of Use” and be sure the box is checked afterwards for “I agree to the Terms of Use” 13. Tap on “Join Kno” (Note: If the account registration goes through successfully, the user will be taken back to the Course Manager aka the home page of the application. By registering an account in the application, the user will be signed into the application as well)

SIGNING INTO THE APP

1. The user should automatically be signed into the iPad application after creating their account in the Kno app 2. If not, please contact Customer Care at Kno (http://www.kno.com/help/customerService) RENT/BUYING eTEXTBOOKS

1. Either through the internet browser on the student’s iPad or through an internet browser on a computer/ laptop, navigate to www.kno.com 2. Click on “Sign In” in the upper right hand corner of the application 3. Enter the email address and password associated with the Kno account 4. Click on “Sign in” 5. Confirm the sign in went through successfully by verifying the user’s name appears where “Sign In” used to be in Step 2 6. In the search box along the top of the page, search for the eTextbook needed. Textbooks are listed within the Course Catalog by course. 7. After navigating to the eTextbook page through Kno, click on “Use It” 8. In the pop up box that appears, “Please Enter Your Billing Info”, please fill in the respective fields accordingly. (Note: Please be sure to use the same billing address that the banking/credit institution has on file for the card being used.) 9. Click on “Continue” 10. In the “Confirm Purchase” pop up, please review the transaction and click on “Rent” to process the transaction (Note: From here, the user will receive two emails from Kno. One stating that the order is being processed and another one to inform them whether or not the transactions has gone through successfully.) 11. After renting all the eTextbooks, please return to the Kno eTextbooks app on the iPad to download them

DOWNLOADING THE eTEXTBOOK

1. After renting/purchasing the eTextbooks, open the Kno eTextbooks app on the student’s iPad 2. Within a few minutes, the eTextbook cover(s) will appear under “My Stuff” with “Tap to download” displayed across the cover 3. Tap on the cover to initiate the download process (Note: Please be sure to maintain a stable WiFi connection and do not let the app fall asleep during the download process. If you should lose your internet connection or if the app/iPad should fall asleep, your eTextbook download may get stuck in a “Waiting to download” state. It is not a major hassle for we may restart it for you, but we would just prefer for you to receive your eTextbook with as little inconvenience as possible.) 4. Once your eTextbook download has completed, the cover will appear bright/vivid 5. Please wait a few minutes after the download has completed to allow the backend processes to complete on our cloud server side 6. Tap on the cover of your eTextbook to open it and verify you are able to drill down to an individual page and navigate throughout your eTextbook

Once you have successfully downloaded your eTextbook, verified that you can open it and navigated throughout your eTextbook, you will be able to view it offline! However, please note that it is strongly recommended that you use the application while connected to the Internet to get the full experience and the ability to use all of the great features. For example, when connected, Sync creates a backup of your notes on our Cloud servers so that you can access your notes across the platforms on which Kno is offered.
