Thursday, January 14 is Rosh Chodesh Shevat. It was on the first day of Shevat that Moses began to deliver his final address to Israel. For thirty-seven days, Moses spoke to all Israel concluding on the seventh of Adar, the day of his death. It is for this reason that the Rabbis said that Rosh Chodesh Shevat is comparable to the sixth of Sivan, Shavuot, the day on which the Torah was given to Israel at Sinai. The Rabbis teach that the first of Shevat is well suited for renewed inspi- ration in the study of Torah! MEN’S CLUB MUSINGS...BY LON ZABACK

The crisp November air was warmed with clergy, friends, and a bonfire at the Men’s Club annual ‘Chill’n with the Clergy’ event. The bonfire was a ‘Plan B’ proposal as a way to get men together without going to a restaurant. The positive feedback from this outside and in-person event raised it to an ‘A-lister’ that we’re sure to do again. A Yasher Koach to Jaron Freidman and Allen Weiss for making this event a success. We have booked more opportunities for you to participate in ‘Thoughtful Thursdays’ programming with Rabbi Bergman through February. In November we explored America and Israel’s role in the world and the contrasting views about what Israelis want and need from American Jews and what American Jews want and need from Israelis. It was enlightening to learn about how Israelis view diaspora Jewry and to come away with new perspectives. Join us on January 14, and 28, and on February 11, for more thought-provoking topics and discussions. You may have noticed the updated calendar and that we have moved our Men’s Retreat with Rabbi Bergman to the Spring in hopes that we can meet in person. In its place, and to maintain our spiritual connection, we have added a Men’s Club Shabbat on Saturday, February 13. We’re excited that Men’s Club members will share MEN’S CLUB leadership of the service on that day. Please contact Alan Gallatin at [email protected] for more information or to volunteer. We’re looking forward to our Annual Health Awareness Breakfast on February 21. Its BYOB (bring you own breakfast) on Zoom this year. We promise a captivating speaker that will serve up healthy ideas for your body and soul. Please look for details for this and other events in upcoming emails, synagogue announcements, and on our web page. The Adat Shalom Men’s Club takes pride in being able to engage men of all ages in social and spiritual events and provide Tikkun Olam opportunities. Please reach out to me for more information.
