ONE HUNDRED SEVENTY-NINTH ANNUAL COMMENCEMENT Dear Friends: Welcome to Indiana University’s 2008 Commencement. Together, on this great day of celebration, we pause to honor the tremendous accomplishments of our graduates. This is their shining moment. Coming from across the state of Indiana, throughout the nation, and around the world, they have become a part of the fabric of excellence woven at Indiana University over the course of nearly two centuries. In subjects ranging from accounting to zoology, they have drawn on their intelligence, talents, and tenacity to achieve mastery and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow. We honor their achievements today and recognize the challenges they have already faced, and overcome, as they have pursued their dreams. This day has been years in the making: years of study and years of support. Our graduates have reached this wonderful day propelled by the love, encouragement, and faith of their families and friends. The strength of that support helps each of us achieve our highest aspirations and deserves our deepest gratitude. Today is as much a day to share that gratitude as to celebrate. Indiana University’s class of 2008 will always be a part of IU’s rich and living history. Having dedicated themselves to the pursuit of academic excellence, driven by curiosity and intellectual passion, our graduates are now poised on the cusp of ever greater accomplishments. We will remember and celebrate them always, wishing them the greatest success in the future. Most sincerely, Michael A.
