ReV. BARBARA A. heARD Volunteer Associate Pastor, provides individual, pre- and post-marital counseling and serves as a Bible Study class facilitator.

Rev. Heard holds a Masters of Divinity from Garrett- Evangelical Seminary, and attended Loyola University of Chicago, Institute for Pastoral Studies, where she participated in graduate courses in theology. She also holds a Bachelor of Education, Kindergarten-Primary Education, from Chicago State University.

Rev. Heard is the mother of one daughter, Dr. Holly Heard Hinderlie, and she has two grandchildren, Kayla Valerie and Jaden Walker Hinderlie. Her hobbies include reading, cooking, jazz, theater – especially dance, and fine dining.

ReV. WAnDA WAShinGTon served as the founding pastor of Grace United Church of Christ in , . She was the first African American woman to start a new church in Wisconsin. Prior to arriving at Grace UCCC, Rev. Washington served as an Associate Pastor and the Director of Pastoral Services at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.

She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Mac Murray College, a Master of Arts from Ohio State University, and a Master of Divinity from Chicago Theological Seminary. In her role as Director of Pastoral Services at Trinity UCC, Rev. Wanda supervised seven members of the pastoral staff and assisted families with arranging funeral services. She also supervised, supported and guided over one hundred students who were attending seminary as Ministers in Training. In 2012, Rev. Washington retired from full-time ministry and relocated to Indianapolis, . She is married to Mr. Wayne Washington Sr. and together they are the parents of three children, the grandparents of six, and great grandparents of one.

MeLBALeniA eVAnS currently serves as the Acting Associate Conference Minister for Stewardship and Church Vitality for the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ. She served as Trinity UCC’s Executive Minister from 2000- 2005 and began doctoral studies and serving as an adjunct professor at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and Chicago Theological Seminary. Dr. Evans became a Commissioned Minister/Worker in the United Church of Christ in 1980, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Illinois, specializing in Bible Study and served as the Administrator for the Center for African Biblical Studies.

Dr. Evans is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts, Summa Cum Laude. In addition, she earned a Master of Divinity Degree, with academic honors, from Howard University School of Divinity, Washington,

D.C., and a doctorate degree from McCormick Theological Seminary, Chicago, Illinois. ST Ue

We ask that you join us in fasting from bad attitudes, making excuses, foods (snacks, chocolate, caffeine, refined sugar) and electronics/ media. Many of us, youth and adults alike, spend an excessive amount of time using our electronic devices to play video games, watch movies and television shows, text, e-mail, and connect/communicate via social media. We ask that you use the time fasting from your guilty pleasures: food, bad attitudes, making excuses, or electronics/social media, to focus on our theme of Child, Get Up and Walk in Love.

Even though you don’t live with your child on a full time basis, we know that your children are important to you. We also know that children need the positive and consistent involvement of their fathers. This program is intended to give fathers knowledge and skills that will help you maintain a strong, loving and consistent relationship with your young child. Commitment • Be randomly assigned to participate in one of the 2 programs

• Attend 10 group meetings with other fathers over the next 3 months AnnoUnCeMen TS • Groups will be held in the community at nearby community colleges • Complete study questions 3 times while you are in the study (before the groups start, at the end of the groups, and again, 3 months later) Benefits • Fathers will receive a $40 gift card for completing study questions ($120 total) • Group meetings with other fathers will include a meal and transportation reimbursement • Fathers will have the chance to share their experiences being a father with other fathers • Fathers will learn more about preparing themselves to be strong and effective fathers for their children
