A lot has happened since my last programme piece, including most of the World Cup which brought many of you up to the Crofts to watch the live games. What a roller coaster of emotions the tournament provided, culminating in a semi-final display that was truly breath-taking. Enough said. On the playing front closer to home, results have been frustrating for the 1st XV with two narrow losses by three points. We took a heavy defeat from Rugby St Andrews but bounced back in the Stoke Old Boys game. It has been gratifying to see us field three senior teams recently including the 3rds/Vets team playing against the invitation R4H side. Our Womens’ side had two games lately with honours even across the pair, see match report, and our unstoppable Colts are through to the next round of the cup. We also have seven representatives in the Warwickshire U18 side: Lewis Mellor, Morgan Fox, James Crabtree, Ed Righton, Archie Semple, Sam Bayliss and Alex Evans. Well done lads, we know you will represent the club with distinction. Sadly our annual Firework display was cancelled due to the weather, which was great disappointment. Of course the unexpected collapse of the Wasps ground sharing was also devastating and I would like to thank everyone who worked so hard in putting together the plans and legal aspects in the run up, as well as all other of phases such a huge undertaking. Of course our connection will continue as part of their local community liaison and we wish them from well in Henley. the Good luck to all players representing the club this weekend, including the Ladies who are away to Drybrook heart tomorrow Let’s hope for warmish weather and softish ground as we look forward to a great game of rugby today. Please respect the players and officials and enjoy the afternoon in the usual OL’s tradition. See you in the bar after.
