BULLYING continued from page 1 … sometimes physically, which can mean anything from shoving or tripping to punching or hitting. Others use psychological control or verbal insults (taunting, teasing, etc.) to demean and torment their targets. For example, people in popular groups or “cliques” often harass people they categorize as unusual by excluding them or spread- ing rumors about them. Bullying often goes unreported in schools, mak- ing it difficult for school officials to help when a problem arises. 34% of the students who took the survey agreed that they “…feel uncomfortable reporting bullying and harassment.” 21% even agreed to the statement that “at my school, there are no consequences for bullying.” This grave misunderstanding could cost us something very dear, our sense of community. Which seems to have been violated by these bullies and must be stopped. There are consequences at North Thurston High School to address bullying and they are explained in the “North Thurston Public Schools Student Rights and Re- sponsibilities Handbook,” the disciplinary actions against bullying are as follows: emergency removal and short- term suspension, long-term suspension/expulsion, and emergency expulsion. All consequences are dependent on the severity of the actions made by both parties involved.

“Our heroes our idols have mellowed with age, following ruse that they once disobeyed, they’re now being led when they used to lead the way” – “Architects” By Cindi Pan “So tell me now if this ain’t love then how do we get out? Because I don’t know, that’s when she said I don’t hate you boy I just want to save you while there’s still something left to save” – “Savior” “We can’t let go can’t you see? To lose control is to be falling free! First a spark, then a flame, now a fire, we explode!” – “Elective Amnesia” Rise Against is the type of band that has meaningful lyrics about revolutions and life lessons. They basically talk about being a leader and how our society is being pushed into something that will affect our future. They sing of being the generation that can change what is happening in the world. In a way it is a lesson on how our society has many races, sexual ori- entations, religions, etc, they frown upon. They also sing of love and having someone that will stick by them when they need them the most. For example the song “Savior” is about being saved and love for the savior. We all have our strengths but we have weaknesses too, causing everyone to be vulnerable and sometimes we need someone to sweep in and save us from ourselves or others. To Rise Against, true love is equal, there’s no stereotypical guy saves girl; it goes both ways. It’s the un- deniable love for someone and the need to be there for them. Overall, this band is something people should be looking out for. They have unique lyrics and the band consists of Tim McIlrath (lead vocals, rhythm ), (lead guitar, backing vocals), (bass guitar, backing vocals) and (drums, percussion). Tim has a voice that’s different from the music from what we hear in today’s society.
