TRANSITS OF THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE TO END OF THE 2019 NAVIGATION SEASON ATLANTIC OCEAN ↔ ARCTIC OCEAN ↔ PACIFIC OCEAN R. K. Headland and colleagues 12 December 2019 Scott Polar Research Institute, University of Cambridge, Lensfield Road, Cambridge, United Kingdom, CB2 1ER. <[email protected]> The earliest traverse of the Northwest Passage was completed in 1853 but used sledges over the sea ice of the central part of Parry Channel. Subsequently the following 314 complete maritime transits of the Northwest Passage have been made to the end of the 2019 navigation season, before winter began and the passage froze. These transits proceed to or from the Atlantic Ocean (Labrador Sea) in or out of the eastern approaches to the Canadian Arctic archipelago (Lancaster Sound or Foxe Basin) then the western approaches (McClure Strait or Amundsen Gulf), across the Beaufort Sea and Chukchi Sea of the Arctic Ocean, through the Bering Strait, from or to the Bering Sea of the Pacific Ocean. The Arctic Circle is crossed near the beginning and the end of all transits except those to or from the central or northern coast of west Greenland. The routes and directions are indicated. Details of submarine transits are not included because only two have been reported (1960 USS Sea Dragon, Capt. George Peabody Steele, westbound on route 1 and 1962 USS Skate, Capt. Joseph Lawrence Skoog, eastbound on route 1). Seven routes have been used for transits of the Northwest Passage with some minor variations (for example through Pond Inlet and Navy Board Inlet) and two composite courses in summers when ice was minimal (transits 149 and 167). -

We extend Relations. Jim had a long and lustrous 35-year career with the our deepest sympathy to family, friends and classmates. Jim’s impact on campus was Arnold Blenkhorn 1941 monumental – he developed NSAC’s first website, created Clara Galway 1944 an alumni and fundraising program and built and maintained Thomas MacNaughton 1946 many critical relationships. For his significant contributions, George Leonard 1947 Jim was awarded an honourary Barley Ring in 2012. Gerald Friars 1948 James Borden 1950 Jim retired in February 2012 and was truly living his best life. Harry Stewart 1951 On top of enjoying the extra time with his wife, Barb, their sons Stephen Cook 1954 and four grandchildren, he became highly involved in the Truro Gerald Foote 1956 Rotary Club and taught ski lessons in the winter. In retirement, Albert Smith 1957 Jim also enjoyed cooking, travelling, yard work and cycling. George Mauger 1960 Phillip Harrison 1960 In honour of Jim’s contributions to campus and the Alumni Barbara Martin 1962 Association, a bench was installed in front of Cumming Peter Dekker 1964 Hall in late November. Wayne Bhola Neil Murphy 1964 (Class of ’74) kindly constructed the Weldon Smith 1973 beautiful bench in Jim’s memory. -

The document is intended to serve as a guide in the evaluation of water supplies, and for the design and preparation of plans and specifications for projects. The document will suggest limiting values for items upon which an evaluation of such plans and specifications may be made by the regulator, and will establish, as far is practical, uniformity of practice. The document should be considered to be a companion to the Atlantic Canada Standards and Guidelines Manual for the Collection, Treatment and Disposal of Sanitary Sewage. Limitations Users of the Manual are advised that requirements for specific issues such as filtration, equipment redundancy, and disinfection are not uniform among the Atlantic Canada provinces, and that the appropriate regulator should be contacted prior to, or during, an investigation to discuss specific key requirements. Approval Process Chapter 1 of the Manual provides an overview of the approval process generally used by the regulators. -
1; Just After Midnight on May 31 2013, an Air Ambulance Helicopter Crashed Shortly After Take-Off from the Airport at Moosonee Ontario on James Bay
ONTARIO COURT OF JUSTICE Central West Region Brampton Ontario BETWEEN: HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN -and- 7506406 CANADA INC. (ORNGE) REASONS FOR JUDGMENT Duncan J. 1; Just after midnight on May 31 2013, an air ambulance helicopter crashed shortly after take-off from the airport at Moosonee Ontario on James Bay. Tragically, the two pilots, Captain Don Filliter and First Officer Jacques Dupuy and two paramedics, Dustin Dagenais and Chris Snowball, were killed. 2. The helicopter was operated by Omge air ambulance service. Omge is a non profit company contracted to the Ontario Ministry of Health to provide air ambulance service, both fixed wing (airplane) and rotor-wing (helicopter), in the province. The defendant numbered company is a federal corporation owned by Omge that operates the rotor-wing division. 3. The defendant corporation was originally charged in an information sworn May 29 2014 with 17 counts under the Canada Labour Code. Many of these counts were withdrawn at the start of the trial and others were withdrawn or amended during the trial. An earlier ruling in this case details the circumstances surrounding those events: see 2017 ONCJ726. 2 4. At the end of the evidence the defendant stood charged with six remaining counts, all contrary to sections 124 and 148 of the Canada Labour Code, of failure to ensure employee safety in three particularized ways. Later, in written and oral submissions, the Crown furthered narrowed the case by seeking convictions on only 3 counts: • Count 3: that on or about May 31 2013, 7 5 06406 Canada Inc failed to ensure employee safety, contrary to section 124 of the Canada Labour Code Part II, by failing to provide pilots with a means to enable them to maintain visual reference while operating at night, thereby committing an offence contrary to section 148(1) of the Canada Labour Code Part II. -

CCGS Amundsen Leg-1 Cruise Report -Bay-wide Survey of Hudson Bay- On-ice operations from the CCGS Amundsen. A six week bay-wide survey of Hudson Bay from May 25th to July 5th, 2018. The 40 scientists on board successfully sampled and surveyed 123 stations, both planned and opportunistic, across parts of the northern, western, central, and southern parts of the Bay. These stations included open water and on-ice sampling, as well as operations conducted via Amundsen helicopter, zodiac and barge vessels.
