New Air Force Chief Takes Over

Brigadier-General (BG) Ng Chee Khern

Brigadier-General (BG) Ng Chee Khern will take over from Major-General (MG) Lim Kim Choon as Chief of Air Force with effect from 24 March 2006.

BG Ng Chee Khern, who is currently Chief of Staff (Air Staff) joined the SAF in 1984, and was a recipient of the SAF (Overseas)/ President's Scholarship in 1985. He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hon 2nd Upper) Degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and a Master of Arts Degree from the University of Oxford, and a Master of Public Administration Degree from Harvard University. Amongst his other appointments in the SAF, BG Ng had been the Commanding Officer of the RSAF's 149 Squadron, Commander of Tengah Air Base, and the

Director of the Joint Operations and Planning Directorate.

MG Lim has served the SAF with distinction since he started his military career in 1976. As Chief of Air Force since 1 April 2001, MG Lim was instrumental in various development programmes to enhance the capabilities of the RSAF. These included the introduction of new platforms like the F-15SGs, the Apache helicopters and the Sea Hawk helicopters. MG Lim also introduced several logistics and manpower policies to modernise and transform the RSAF. In the area of defence diplomacy, he has forged a network of close working relations with air forces around the world. MG Lim also directed the RSAF's involvement in humanitarian-aid operations such as Operation Flying Eagle in Aceh, and in New Orleans where the RSAF provided assistance in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
