After lunch, departure for half-day excursion to visit a beautiful lakeside village on the shores of Lake Llanquihue called Frutillar. Visiting this place is like going back in time. We will visit the open-air german museum with colonial houses, restored and furnished in the style of that time, when the first immigrants arrived in this region. Free time to buy handicrafts, enjoy the recipes of german cuisine or just admire the landscape where you can see the Osorno, Calbuco, Casablanca and Puyehue volcanoes. Return to the hotel and accommodation 17 SEPTEMBER - Day 02: PUERTO VARAS - QUEMCHI - AUCAR - COLO - TENAUN - CASTRO Breakfast at the hotel and later departure to Chiloé island to know its villages and churches. In this patrimonial route we will visit Quemchi (church San Jose), Aucar (parish, Nuestra Señora de la Merced), Colo (church San Antonio) , Tenaun (Church Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio), San Juan (church San Juan) Dalcahue (church Nuestra Señora de los Dolores) and Castro (church San Francisco) Lunch included. Arrival in Castro and accommodation at Hotel Parque Quilquico. 18 SEPTEMBER - Day 03: CASTRO - DALCAHUE – QUINCHAO – PUERTO VARAS Breakfast at the hotel and departure to Curaco de Vélez and Achao (church Santa María de Loreto), then return to Chiloé island going north to the city of Ancud, important stoppage that will allows us to visit the Museum of Churches, with a centenary building, the Ex Convent of the Immaculate Conception of Ancud (ICA) which has a special role in the history of Ancud. For many decades it hosted a congregation of nuns, a school and the chapel that functioned as a cathedral for 16 years after the earthquake of 1960. Lunch and return to Puerto Varas. Accommodation at the Bellavista Hotel. Each church has its individual characteristics but they are all based in country places, near the sea. It is shocking to discover that despite the 100 or 200 years that have elapsed, they are still standing and that they offer masses and are a meeting place for the locals who maintain the tradition. Many of these churches have a cemetery, something worth seeing because of the colorful offerings. The markets with regional meals, the short trips on the barges and the murmur of the inhabitants who make their usual life, make it an unforgettable experience. 19 SEPTEMBER - Day 04: PUERTO VARAS – SANTIAGO Breakfast at the Hotel and transfer from the Hotel to the airport at 09:30. Trekking Desolacion trail. Volcán Osorno, Petrohué falls,Emerald Lake. Trekking : Vicente Perez Rosales N.Park. Desolation Pass. Overview: Profile: Adventurous Difficulty level: medium. Season: November to late March Other trips you might find interesting: Solitario Hike Parque Nacional V, Perez Rosales. Cochamo Walls and river Hike, Tagua Tagua Hike. We depart early in mornig from Puerto Varas to Petrohué on the shores of Todos Los Santos Lake. On our way to the lake, we’ll pass through areas that are the mouths of the rivers which flow from the sides of Osorno Volcano. On warm days, it is possible to see what appear to be dust clouds arising from the flanks of the volcano. In reality, these are ash clouds raised by the flowing waters making their way down the flanks of the volcano. We will cross vast areas of black ash mixed with the lashes from the Calbuco eruption in 2015 and have been brought down by the glacial melt. You will appreciate the might of the volcano as you see the results of the ash flows experienced during its eruptions. One can only imagine what it must have been like during its periods of activity. Leaving Petrohué, we head upward toward the base of Volcano Osorno (8,730 feet). Our trek takes us through Osorno’s volcanic canyons where amazing rock formations are etched out of the canyon walls by the melting snows and glaciers of Osorno. As we head upwards to Desolation Pass, at an altitude of 5,610 feet between the Osorno and Cerro La Picada volcanoes, we will also see a wide variety of lava formations created by the lava flows that built Osorno.

ExChile Greatest Playground on Earth! 2009-2010 season Trip Name: Isle of Myths and Monsters Sea Kayaking Last Name: First Name: Email: Phone: # in group: Comments: Overview: Immerse yourself in the fascinating, cultural experience of Chiloe Island as we sea kayak silently through the mysterious byways of this archipelago, where Spain once maintained it's last stronghold of colonial power in South America. Here the magic of traditional culture lives on. Our sturdy kayaks emulate the spirit of the fragile dalcas; in which the natives traveled many centuries ago. Today there still vestiges of this original Araucanian way of life, in harmonious combination with the influences of German immigrants in the late 1800s and of modern-day Chile. On every lovely island we visit, you'll see moss-covered old wooden churches gracing the seaside, as well as palafitos (stilt houses) that are 20 feet and more in the air when the tide is out, but nearly awash when it's in. Savor a rich curanto and other typical cuisine to delight your palate. Wander through the local market of Castro. What more can we say? This is the opportunity of a lifetime to enjoy a fantastic adventure at the other end of the Earth National Geographic International Adventurist: Seven days to the Futaleufu - Trailer Slideshows: Slide Shows Day by Day: Day 1: ANCUD - PUÑIHUIL - CASTRO Reception at the bus terminal of Ancud, then we will drive west to visit the place of Puñihuil in the Pacific side of the main island. During 2010 several massive salp outbreaks of the Subantarctic species Ihlea magalhanica were recorded in the inner sea of Chiloé Island (ISCh, Southern Chile), affecting both phytoplankton abundance and salmon farmers by causing high fish mortality. First outbreaks were recorded during February 2010 when Ihlea magalhanica reached up to 654,000 ind m-3 close to the net pens in Maillen Island and consecutive outbreaks could be followed during March and from October to November 2010. One month prior to the first recorded salp outbreak, the adjacent oceanic region and ISCh showed a sharp decline of ca.
