3 VYBRANÁ MEDIÁLNÍ TÉMATA SERIÁLU ČERNOBYL PRIZMATEM ČESKÝCH, ZÁPADNÍCH A RUSKÝCH SERVERŮ Abstract Bachelor's thesis „Selected media themes of TV series Chernobyl by prism of Czech, west and Russian servers“ deals with different approaches of media to TV series by American production HBO in four countries: Czech Republic, United States of America, Great Britain and Russia.

Introduction Following the story of how technological disaster led to the complete col- lapse of a superpower, Serhii Plokhy details the events that led up to one of the most disastrous events in history. Beginning with fatal design flaws and human errors, the events leading up to the explosion were a concoction of deadly mistakes. From incompetent plant workers to leaders who chose to protect their reputation over their citizens, Chernobyl experienced a tragedy that could have been prevented. Throughout the book, you’ll learn about the heroes of Chernobyl including first responders and engineers that risked their lives to prevent further cat- astrophe. While there were many heroes among the tragedy, you’ll also see government leaders who used their power to protect themselves leading to a corrupt society that citizens no longer trusted. Mistrust and corruption which finally led to the downfall of the Soviet Union, one of the biggest gov- ernment collapses in history. The Race to Becoming an Economic Powerhouse Leads to Shortcuts In Mikhail Gorbachov’s 1986 speech to the twenty-seventh Communist Par- ty Congress, his first as general secretary, he lamented the zastoi (stagna- tion) of the Soviet Union economy and called for a speedy shift from fossil fuels (coal, oil, and gas) to nuclear power.

PALABRAS CLAVE: Chernobyl, miniserie, narrativa, análisis, personajes ABSTRACT The main objective of this work is to carry out an exhaustive analysis of Chernobyl miniseries, created by Craig Mazin and produced by HBO and Sky.

Both of you helped to guide and develop me in my craft and, when I entertained the thought of returning to finish, accepted me back and were willing to help without an ounce of hesitation. I also want to thank Doctor Michael Schuering for agreeing to help me with my thesis and serve on my committee without having ever spoken to me.
