Going forward we intend to produce a newsletter for you to read every quarter. The next one will be due in spring and you can also find this newsletter online at www.somersetwestandtaunton.gov.uk. We have all been through so much this year, especially with lockdowns during the year. Just as we were gaining momentum after the first lockdown, we had to lock down again. We will of course continue to support our residents during the global pandemic and reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus. Despite, the difficulties this year, the Housing Directorate has continued to deliver against their objectives of delivering more new homes, providing great customer services and improving our existing homes and neighbourhoods. I hope you enjoy reading about the great things that have been achieved in this edition. The future of Local Government still remains subject to change and I wrote to you in November to make you aware of those changes. You may wish to look through the “Stronger Somerset” (www. strongersomerset.co.uk) and “One Council” (www.onesomerset.org.uk) information to familiarise yourself with the current situation. (Notice2) SOMERSET COUNTY COUNCIL DISTRICT OF TAUNTON DEANE PARISH OF LANGFORD BUDVILLE Temporary Closure of Ritherdons Lane TAKE NOTICE that in pursuance of Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991, the County Council of Somerset have made an Order PROHIBITING ALL TRAFFIC from proceeding along Ritherdons Lane; from 15 metres east of the junction with Swifts eastwards for a distance of 5 metres. This order will enable AJ Hale & Son to carry out excavation in the road for the purposes of exposing a Wessex Water Sewer, laying of a pipe, and connection by Wessex Water and then backfilling and making good the road surface in this road. The Order becomes effective on 29 October 2014 and will remain in force for eighteen months. The works are expected to last for 3 days. While the closure is in operation an alternative route will be signed as detailed below. ALTERNATIVE ROUTE From the eastern end of the closure proceed in a south easterly direction along Ritherdons Lane to the junction with Langford Budville Road. Turn right and proceed in a south westerly direction along Langford Budville Road to the junction with Langford Common Road. Turn right and proceed in a north westerly direction along Langford Common Road to the junction with Ritherdons Lane. Turn right and proceed in north easterly and south easterly directions along Ritherdons Lane to the western end of the closure, and vice versa. After the sad memories of the First World War in our last edition, we’re far more cheerful this month with three Village Weddings to celebrate. The wonderful summer (where did it go?) gave us a glut of courgettes and Dairy Delights is happy to tell you what to do with them. We’re still with vegetables in Green Fingers as the time has come to start preparing the garden for Winter. The change of season sees the dying of many of our garden flowers, including lavender, but there is much more to this plant than beauty and scent and we are starting what we hope will be a regular series on wellbeing with The Magic of Lavender. Langford Heathfield appears again in Out and About with Grazing on the Common as we look at the reason we have the lovely Sheltland ponies here every Summer. It’s great to see the Common tidied up again and we hope you find our articles on its various aspects interesting. This month our Village Personality is an artist who lives in Chipley and will be opening up her studio for a long weekend in September. -
