Daredevil's life is a mix of joy and tragedy. The story of Matt Murdock began with his father. Jack wanted his sons to be more successful than him. He impressed upon Matt the need to constantly study instead of playing sports with other kids. Jack hoped that Matt and would become a doctor or a lawyer instead of an "uneducated pug" like himself. This led the neighborhood kids to bully the "cowardly" Matt as "Daredevil", while his twin brother came to his aid. One day, Matt saw a blind man walking towards an oncoming truck. Matt pushed the man out of the way. The truck crashed and a radioactive isotope spilled out, striking Matt across the face and blinding him. While recovering in the hospital, Matt discovered his hearing, smell, taste, and touch were amplified to superhuman degrees. He Daredevil: Devils Hand developed a "radar sense" that formed a mental picture of his surroundings. During his time in the hospital, Matt was visited by a nun wearing a gold cross. Long thought dead, Matt would one day find his Daredevil: Devils Hand, " Maggie ," was living as a nun. Matt wouldn't know who this woman was for many years. A few months later, Matt received training from the ninja master Stick. From Stick, Matt learned how to control his Daredevil: Devils Hand abilities and honed his skills in acrobatics and martial arts. Meanwhile, Jack Murdock was desperate to fight. He reluctantly joined with a crooked fight promoter known as the " Fixer. Jack refused and won his fight. Later that night, Jack Murdock was shot dead by the Fixer and his men. The now orphaned Matt searched for his father's killers. Daredevil: Devils Hand finally found the Fixer's Daredevil: Devils Hand and punished them severely. He chased down and confronted the Fixer, who pulled a gun on Matt. Before he could fire it, the Fixer suffered from a heart Daredevil: Devils Hand and died. He found him at a brothel. Matt confronted him but was attacked by the women who worked there. In the melee, Matt knocked one of the women out of the window and thought she was dead she would return as Typhoid Mary. He ran away in horror over what he had done. He went searching for Stick, but Stick had abandoned him because of his actions. Matt continued his studies and entered Columbia Law School. At Columbia, Matt Daredevil: Devils Hand and fell in love with Elektra Natchios. It was a first Daredevil: Devils Hand for both of them. When Elektra's father was accidentally killed by the police, she retreated Daredevil: Devils Hand the world and from Matt. Matt earned his law degree and landed a job at a major law firm. He returned to Hell's Kitchen and to his father's old gym. There he met a young girl staying there named Mickey. They got close to each other and he trained her. He also ran into Foggy Nelson Daredevil: Devils Hand he was there. He helped him with some of his cases. Meanwhile, Mickey ended up being kidnapped by people working for the Kingpin. Matt tracked them down and rescued Mickey. Because of that he missed an appointment for work and was fired. Karen Page was hired by Foggy as their secretary. Daredevil: Devils Hand was attracted to Matt, and found it a pity that such a wonderful, handsome man could be so handicapped. Daredevil: Devils Hand made a yellow and black costume out Daredevil: Devils Hand his father's old boxing robes and continued to fight crime as Daredevil. Though some of his early enemies were considered laughable like Matador[34] Stilt Man[35] and Leap Frog[11] Daredevil gathered an impressive and dangerous rogues gallery. Electro was the first costumed villain Daredevil faced. When he was accidentally doused with experimental chemicals, they turned Daredevil: Devils Hand skin purple and gave him the power to control people's minds. His power wasn't very effective against Daredevil since it worked best when people could see him. He was a wax museum curator obsessed with Daredevil: Devils Hand his statues to life. Instead, he discovered a gas that filled people with terror. He used this gas as Mister Fear to commit daring crimes. He also faced the Sub-Mariner during his early days as a hero. Even though he could not defeat the AtlanteanDaredevil refused to give up, which greatly impressed Namor. Karen Daredevil: Devils Hand Matt about Dr. Van Eycka doctor from Boston who might be able to restore Matt's lost eyesight. But Matt refused, which angered her and she called him a coward. Back in New York CityKaren received a memo from Matt explaining that the surgery wasn't done, leaving Foggy to jealously assume that Matt chickened out at the last moment. He battled such villains as the Organizer [43] and the Ani-Men. Learning of Karen's kidnapping, Matt went to the location where Karen was being held hostage, and pretended to be a blind Matt pretending to be Daredevil coming to misguidedly save Karen. Getting captured as part of his plan, Daredevil freed himself when his captors were not looking and easily defeated them. After Karen was freed and Daredevil Daredevil: Devils Hand in the crooks, Matt decided Daredevil: Devils Hand to tell Karen his true secret fearing the danger it may bring her someday. He soon fought the Jester who was more dangerous then he appeared. Matt had an opportunity to make her stay but he pushed her away not wanting to risk her life because he's really Daredevil. Not wanting to take out his emotions on somebody else, Daredevil went on the trail of the Jester in hopes of capturing the criminal. However, while out on patrol, he overheard a radio report of a crook who stole a bag full of Radium. Finding the crook and stopping him, the Radium had a weird effect on Daredevil, causing him Daredevil: Devils Hand go berserk. Traveling to Madison Square Garden he found that Captain America was having a charity fight with people wanting to step in the Daredevil: Devils Hand with Daredevil: Devils Hand. Daredevil, in a peaked frenzy then attacked the Star-Spangled Avenger, however during the fight the effect of the Radium wore off and Daredevil retreated quickly. As Foggy entered the final race for the District Attorney's office, Karen returned because she could not stay away from Matt and the two rekindled their romance. During the election race, Daredevil learned that Stilt-Man had been hired to make an attempt on Foggy's life, and so battled him as Daredevil. Although Stilt-Man managed to escape, Daredevil prevented him from bringing harm to Foggy. Soon afterwards, Foggy was elected D. Matt decided that he was sick of being Daredevil and decided to quit his costumed adventuring because it cost him his best friend and the girl that he loved. However, this was easier said than done as Daredevil was attacked by a robot created by Starr Saxon and hired out by Biggie Benson. He later impersonated Mister Fear. In his civilian identity, Murdock was very successful as a lawyer. Amongst his more prominent clients were the Fantastic Fourwhom he also aided as Daredevil in their fight against Doctor Doom when they temporarily lost Daredevil: Devils Hand powers. Matt's secret identity was compromised after Spider-Man wrote him a letter revealing that he had figured out that he was Daredevil and it was intercepted by Foggy and Karen. To further consolidate the lie, Matt would sporadically adopt Daredevil: Devils Hand identity of Mike and pretend to be his own Daredevil: Devils Hand and brash twin. Even though he managed to successfully deceive Foggy and Karen, juggling this triple-life became hard for Matt. But sometimes Natasha wished that they were more. While living in San Francisco, Matt worked for another law firm. He left when he realized his bosses were more concerned with their Daredevil: Devils Hand than with their clients and returned to New York where he opened the "Storefront Legal Clinic" that provided legal services to poor people with Foggy Nelson, who had lost his re-election as district attorney to Blake Tower. Daredevil: Devils Hand stopped a plot by the Jester who used fake television transmissions to plunge New York into chaos Daredevil: Devils Hand and teamed up with the Ghost Rider to rescue Karen Page who had been kidnapped by a new Death's Head. Matt was reunited with Elektra under the worst circumstances. After college, Elektra had become an assassin. She had trained with an evil ninja cult called the Hand. Although she left the Hand, she had become cold and violent. Elektra was killed by Bullseyethe world's deadliest assassin. Fortunately, ninja magic and Murdock's love brought her back Daredevil: Devils Hand life and "cleansed her spirit". She moved to a remote mountain retreat to live with the Chastethe Hand's heroic counterpart. After Elektra's death, Matt proposed to Heather. He then went to work proving Glenn Industries' board of directors were involved in illegal dealings. He found enough proof to ruin the company, and leave Heather with no choice but to marry him. Foggy saw that what Matt was doing was wrong. With the Black Widow's help, he broke up Matt and Heather. Years later, a drunken Heather called Matt for Daredevil: Devils Hand. The Hand is a fictional supervillain organization appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Hand is an order of evil mystical ninjas who are heavily involved in organized crime and mercenary activities such as assassination plots. The Hand covets power above all other objectives. They are primarily based in Japanbut operate internationally. Members of the Hand are practitioners of powerful occult magic and can murder a person and bring Daredevil: Devils Hand person back to life as a servant of the Hand, but a few are known to have reversed this programming. The Hand's most Daredevil: Devils Hand adversary is The Chastea band of warriors once led by Stickthe blind martial arts master and mentor of Matt Murdock, who grew to become the costumed crime-fighter Daredevil. Murdock would eventually, after many bitter battles, accept the offer of Daredevil: Devils Hand the master of the Hand for a time. Facing growing frustrations Daredevil: Devils Hand the corrupt government that had been tainted by foreign influence, Yoshioka transformed the school into a training ground for samurais whose goal was to put power back in the hands of the Japanese Daredevil: Devils Hand. Thus, the Hand was born. Just as a hand has five fingers, members of the inner circle of the Hand were leaders of Daredevil: Devils Hand which each operated from one of Japan's five islands. Upon the mutinous murder Daredevil: Devils Hand Yoshioka, the Snakeroot ninja clan took control of the Hand and corrupted it by imposing the cult of a demon known as The Beast, which imbued them with dark magic. One of these black spells causes a Hand ninja's lifeless body to return to dust and prevent another from directly gazing at the Beast itself. Unlike the other factions of ninja, this "new" Hand both worked as mercenaries and sought power themselves. The Hand sought dominance over all others, working for allies of convenience while seeking to eliminate their enemies. After the end of World War IIa select few of the more politically oriented members of the Hand formed the original HYDRA as a cabal of Japanese ultranationalists who plotted to overthrow the Japanese liberal democratic government, assassinate the prime minister, and install a neo- militarist government, which would rearm Japan. Shortly upon joining HYDRA, Baron Strucker seized control of the organization from its Japanese founders and slowly steered the organization towards the goal of world domination. The Hand has survived into the early 21st century, still seeking power in various forms, and using their lethal skills and brutal methods. The Hand's most dangerous adversary is The Chastea band of warriors once led by Stickthe late, blind martial arts master and former mentor of the man who grew to become the costumed crime-fighter Daredevil Matt Murdock. Another of his former pupils, Elektra Natchioshas also been involved with the Hand. She infiltrated the Hand, determined to prove herself to Stick. Instead, the ninja tricked her into killing one of her former sensei. Elektra served the Hand for a time, but after their ways corrupted her soulshe fled Japan back to America. Eventually, the Hand sought to wipe out Stick and the good warriors of the Chaste altogether. Stick thwarted an assassination attempt by four Hand operatives; he then summoned the other members of his order Shaft, Stone, and Claw to New York City. With the assistance of his clan, Stick defeated Kirigithe Hand's most lethal ninja at the time. The Hand regrouped and attacked Stick and his band of warriors that now included Daredevil and his current lover, Black Widow. The Hand had almost overpowered the small band of warriors, when Stick and Shaft resorted to an ancient technique that drained Daredevil: Devils Hand life force from all ninja present. Unfortunately, the technique resulted in the explosion of Stick and his comrade as a result of the excess energy they had absorbed. Despite their casualties and the escape of the Chaste's superhero allies, Daredevil: Devils Hand Hand considered the destruction of their nemesis and leader of their enemy a victory and turned their attention to other schemes. Years later, the Hand turned its attention to the leaderless Chaste, once again attempting to destroy them, this time to prevent the Chaste's members from locating the new-born child Daredevil: Devils Hand would bear Stick's reincarnated soul. The Hand severely crippled Stick's soldiers, reducing their number to a handful of warriors. The few remaining Chaste traveled to New York, seeking the assistance of Daredevil. Reluctantly, the Man Without Fear aided his former mentor's disciples, returning with Daredevil: Devils Hand to Japan. Once there, the Hand attacked the Chaste and Daredevil relentlessly. Fighting alongside Daredevil, the Chaste barely managed to escape Daredevil: Devils Hand safeguard their master's reincarnated spirit. The Hand has also frequently fought with Wolverine and come into conflict with superheroes such as Spider-Man[4] the Avengers[5] and the X- Men. Elektra led the Hand for Daredevil: Devils Hand time but when Daredevil: Devils Hand was killed it was revealed that this Elektra was actually a Skrull[10] temporarily leaving the Daredevil: Devils Hand without a warlord. One faction, led by Lord Hiroshi and his lieutenant Lady Bullseyehas aimed to make Daredevil their new leader, an offer the latter rejected, only to be told that "the Hand doesn't take no for an answer. Kingpin's first act in negotiations is to kill Hiroshi with Daredevil: Devils Hand bare hands, to "thank him" for realizing he can't escape his role as the Kingpin, and for murdering his girlfriend and her kids. However, the proceedings were interrupted by Daredevil, who accepted their offer, on the condition that the Hand should not do business with the Kingpin or Lady Bullseye again. The three remaining ninja-lords accepted this arrangement. The Hand plays a major part in the " Shadowland " storyline where Daredevil uses the Hand as a force of justice. When Bullseye attacks his fortress, Daredevil ends up killing him in the same manner as Bullseye did to Elektra. Daredevil blames them for the diversion and has the Hand attack them. He is then approached by Elektra, who apparently swears her allegiance to him. The street-based heroes are visited by Master Izo, who states that the Snakeroot Clan plan to make Daredevil a vessel for the Beast of the Hand who desires nothing but darkness and destruction. This, when Luke Cage is visited by his old friend Lacy Kimbro, who tells Luke that her son Darris is among the cops that are held prisoners by the Underhand. Despite their efforts to interrupt Bullseye's resurrection ceremony, even Daredevil: Devils Hand direct attack from Wolverine fails to kill the now- demonic Daredevil. Daredevil throws off Elektra and Spider-Man's attempts to reason with him, as he proclaims " There is no Murdock! There is only the Beast! The Hand later ends up in a gang war with the Yakuza which has been orchestrated by Sabretooth. As part of the Marvel NOW! In the aftermath of the attack on Shadowland, some of the Hand ninjas who evaded capture arrive in the sewers to join up with the Goblin Nation which is led by Goblin King. After the funeral of Bruce Bannerthe Hand steals his body so that they can use it to strengthen their ranks. During the Secret Empire storyline, the Hand is encountered by the Underground in Madripoor where they are under the control of Hive. While the organization provides the Kingpin with Elektra for Daredevil: Devils Hand as a bodyguard, it refuses to directly hunt and eliminate the Punisher due to having the utmost respect for the vigilante and his prowess at killing. The Hand is later revealed to be in league with Vanessa Daredevil: Devils Handwho intends to have Elektra seduce and murder Daredevil: Devils Hand Kingpin. After the Punisher cripples Elektra and kills the Kingpin, the Hand recovers the former, and euthanizes her when it becomes apparent that the severity of her injuries have rendered her incapable of ever walking again.
