Mas também de um trabalho que de uma forma transversal um dia tive o privilegio de conhecer, ainda em processo de investigação e recolha documental de imagem, (e pela tua mão, José de Deus) o de um livro, “Os Guardiões do Litoral Oeste” da autoria de Carlos Maximiano Baptista e tua José de Deus Rodrigues sobre faróis. Assim, e se tudo isto já era um referencial, depois de mais uma conversa que tivemos, a ideia ganhou os pés para andar e permitiu-me pensar e equacionar um projecto desta natureza em que o marketing e turismo se fundissem. Pela amizade de décadas e por tudo o que não tem agradecimento possível, …e até por esta conversa também, obrigado Zé. IV Resumo O trabalho apresentado neste projecto tem como propósito o desenvolvimento de uma Marca comercial para a Marinha Portuguesa – Direcção de Faróis que permita possibilitar a reconversão dos faróis existentes enquanto património edificado em unidades de turismo e alojamento através da sua concessão a investidores turísticos e ou hoteleiros tendo em conta que os faróis existentes têm uma actividade operacional e também humana com a presença de faroleiros da marinha ali residente, e são um uma unidade operacional da Marinha Portuguesa. O desafio proposto será o de criar uma identidade própria para uma marca que congregue o conceito Faróis de Portugal – Turismo e Alojamento, e que seja uma marca umbrella transversal a todas as unidades, com o propósito de ser Comunicada e Promovida como um conceito único, uma cadeia de hotéis instalados em faróis operacionais, com diferentes tipologias de alojamento e tipos de serviço. Para a criação da marca este trabalho segue o modelo de Kevin Keller, CBBE - Consumer Based Brand Equity, an Europeam prespective, procurando que a marca seja desenvolvida com uma cadeia de valor adicional, assente no valor psicológico atribuído pelo consumidor. V Abstract The work presented in this project aims the development of a Brand for the Portuguese Navy – Lighthouses Management Directorate, allowing reconversion of existing lighthouses, as heritage buildings in tourist facilities and accommodation through its concession to tourism investors and or hoteliers, understanding that the existing lighthouses have an operating activity and a lighthouse keepers - Navy personnel, and are an operational unit of the Portuguese Navy. The proposed challenge will be to create an identity for a brand that commands the concept Portugal Lighthouses - Tourism and Accommodation, and is a cross umbrella brand for all units with the purpose of being communicated and promoted as a unique concept, a hotel chain installed in operating lighthouse with different types of accommodation and service types. Royal Cromer Golf Club History Established 1888 Royal Cromer Golf Club owes its existence to the enthusiasm and love of the game of a Mr. Henry Broadhurst M.P., a Scot who lived at 19, Buckingham Street, The Strand, London. In the 1880's, whilst holidaying in Cromer, he recognised the potential of land to the seaward of the Lighthouse as a possible site for a Links Course. The popularity of North Norfolk at this time had been noted in the London City Press in a report dated 5th September 1886: "The public are greatly indebted to railway enterprise for the opening up of the East Coast. More bracing air and delightful sands are not to be found in any part of England. The only drawback is that the country is rather flat. This remark, however, does not apply to Cromer, which bids fair to become the most popular watering place, it being entirely free from objectionable features". The site of the proposed golf course was owned by the then Lord Suffield KCB, who kindly consented to the request of Broadhurst and some twenty other enthusiasts to rent the land. The Club was instituted in the Autumn of 1887 with Lord Suffield as President. Doubtless it was his friendship and influence with the Prince of Wales which precipitated the Prince's gracious patronage of the infant club on 25th December 1887. Thus Cromer had a Royal Golf Club even before its official opening the following January.

Bus 31 runs roughly down to the beach, leaving wooden steps hanging precariously over the cliff. Take a narrow hourly between Ilfracombe, Mortehoe and Woolacombe on weekdays and Saturdays.     LDU: 578 LCT: 4H, 2C, 4C Area of LDU within AONB: 236.5 hectares % of LDU within AONB: 69% Date surveyed: 24 February 2010 Survey points: SS479464, SS478465, SS454447, SS454446, SS456445 Summary of landscape character This LDU comprises the dramatic north-western coastline of the AONB, stretching from the western fringes of Ilfracombe (Torrs Point) to Morte Bay. The majority of the coast is unsettled, with rocky cliffs displaying complex, folded strata backed by coastal heath and rough maritime grassland. The landscape retains high levels of tranquillity and evokes a wild, exposed character, disrupted in the south by tourism-related development around the coastal headland from Woolacombe. All of the landscape falls within the North Devon Heritage Coast and most is owned by the National Trust. LANDSCAPE DESCRIPTION LANDFORM / TOPOGRAPHY Landform description Undulating, rocky coastline punctuated by small coves and bays. Cliffs up to 100 metres high display a complex geology of mainly Upper Devonian sandstones and slates. Cliffs are backed by often steeply sloping land with rounded summits.     Trinity House to decommission Royal Sovereign Lighthouse End of serviceable life Trinity House London* has begun preparatory work on a project to decommission Royal Sovereign Lighthouse** (English Channel, South coast of England, 50°43′24″N 0°26′08″E). It is the intention that the now-deteriorating lighthouse will be completely removed clear to the seabed. This has necessitated that Beachy Head Lighthouse be upgraded to ensure the safety of the mariner in those waters. Trinity House aims to commence work in 2020. Royal Sovereign Lighthouse was built in 1971 with a design life of 50 years. Having monitored the fabric of the lighthouse over the last decade and observing the expected signs of deterioration, Trinity House concluded that the ongoing safety of the mariner requires that the structure be fully decommissioned. Royal Sovereign Lighthouse has provided nearly 50 years of reliable service as an aid to navigation, one of over 600 that Trinity House operates for the benefit and safety of the mariner. In anticipation of its intention to remove Royal Sovereign Lighthouse, Trinity House upgraded Beachy Head Lighthouse; it will also increase the capability of the offshore CS2 buoy and will retain the nearby Royal Sovereign buoy. The upgrade to Beachy Head Lighthouse has increased the number of solar panels around the base of its lantern gallery and installed a longer-range LED light source; the CS2 lighted buoy will also benefit from an increase in range. The upgrade to Beachy Head Lighthouse will come as good news to mariners and the local community alike. Once Trinity House decommissions Royal Sovereign Lighthouse as proposed, Beachy Head Lighthouse’s future is secured as the principal aid to navigation in the area.

The cliff top area is part of the Downland Country Park managed by Eastbourne District Council. The section of cliff surveyed at Beachy Head is situated to the east of the modern lighthouse. The survey spans a 400 m south-facing stretch of beach with a cliff height of between 120 and 160 m. Figure 1 Cliffs and lighthouse at Beachy Head Figure 2 Field sketch at Beachy Head As part of a programme of work monitoring coastal erosion and landsliding at several sites around the coast of Great Britain, BGS has surveyed the cliffs at Beachy Head in Sussex using terrestrial LiDAR — see Terrestrial LiDAR Survey Techniques Geology The geology of the cliffs at Beachy Head consist of Cretaceous chalk comprising the Seaford Chalk and Lewes Nodular Chalk formations (formerly called the Upper Chalk Formation) overlying the New Pit Chalk Formation (formerly part of the Middle Chalk). The New Pit Chalk Formation (Turonian) in the lower part of the cliff is largely obscured by chalk debris. This is principally blocky, white firm to moderately hard chalk with numerous marls. Flint occurs sporadically or in seams in different part of the formation. Overlying the New Pit Chalk Formation is the Lewes Nodular Chalk Formation, which is Turonian to Coniacian in age. This consists of hard nodular chalk and chalkstone, which is locally porcellaneous.

It combines a report on the progress of ring­ ing between October 1953 and December 1954 with a selected list of recoveries reported up to 31st December 1954. MANAGEMENT The members of the Committee are as follows: Sir Lands- borough Thomson (Chairman), Miss E. P. Leach, A- W. Boyd, Hugh Boyd, J. A. Gibb, P. A. D. Hollom, G. R. Mountfort, Major-General C. B. Wainwright, George Waterston; Sir Norman Kinnear; Bruce Campbell and C. A. Norris (ex officiis); Robert Spencer (Secretary). The only new member of the Committee is Sir Norman Kinnear, who succeeded Lord Ilchester as representa­ tive of the Trustees of the British Museum- A Sub-committee comprising Hugh Boyd, C. A. Norris, Major-General C. B. Wain­ wright and the Secretary was formed to plan the development and production of new rings. By permission of the Trustees, the headquarters of the scheme remain at the British Museum (Natural History).
