The Deputy Clerk advised that the consultation will be publicised in Inside Morpeth magazine, and also asked for a list of interested parties that the consultation could be brought to the attention of prior to going live. Members have until Friday 13th November 2020 to submit their comments, ahead of the final preparation prior to public consultation. Cllr Byard suggested that some of the colours used were too similar and could cause confusion. Cllr Best advised that in the consultation Mathesons Gardens had been mistakenly identified as Admiral Collingwood Court. Also, it states that Carlisle Park was donated in 1916, this may be confusing because it was not opened as a park until 1929. Cllr Best suggested that this consultation be brought to the attention of the Morpeth Forum as it includes such areas as the Police Station, Courthouse, Goosehill School, Joiners Arms etc. The Deputy Clerk advised that no comments have been received from Northumberland County Council Officers to date. • Accessions July – Dec. 2010
Northumberland Archives Accessions July – Dec. 2010 Each year we receive several hundred new accessions (deposits of records or artefacts). These can range in size from a single item, for example, a photograph, through to several hundred boxes of records. As we accept records into our custody we create an accession record. The information that we record includes a brief description of the item, covering dates, details of the provenance of the item and the status of the deposit, in other words, whether it is a purchase, deposit (long term loan) or a gift. The vast majority of records are deposited with us and remain the property of the depositor and their heirs. We regularly produce a list of the accessions received over a six month period. This is generated from our electronic collections management system and provides brief details of the deposit. If you would like further information about the deposit you should consult our electronic catalogue or speak with a member of staff who will be pleased to advise. The purpose of the list is to allow users to become more aware of new deposits of material. Not all of the items that are referred to on the list will be available for public consultation. Some may be subject to a closure period because of confidential content. Others may not yet be catalogued and therefore cannot be produced. Staff will be pleased to advise with regard to access to collections. EDITORIAL The first meeting of the Society after the summer break will be held on 7 September at the British Legion Club, West Jesmond, and it is hoped there will be a good turn-out of members to get the autumn session off to a good start. This will be closely followed by the weekend Conference at Trevelyan College, Durham, on 22-24 September, at which some interesting talks are promised. These will be interspersed with "Question and Answer" sessions and other activities, and there will also be opportunities to meet other members of the Society, particularly those from further afield, in pleasant and enjoyable surroundings. An order form for Volume 4 of the "Index to 1851 Census of Northumberland", covering Bedlington parish, is enclosed with this Journal. Work on these indexes is continuing, but there is a long way to go and any help would be appreciated. Unfortunately the rate at which they can be published is dependent on the rate at which they can be sold, so please place your orders as soon as possible. A nation-wide project to index the 1881 Census is also under way, and we are pleased to hear that several members of the London Group are taking part. It came as a great shock to hear that Roger Tankerville, one of our most active members, had died in a motor-cycle accident. As well as acting as MI Co-ordinator for five years, Roger played a leading role in the organisation of our Annual Conferences and was a valued member of the committee.
