Holy Cross Senior Saints July - December Calendar July 2021 Wednesday, July 7, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Sunday, July 11, 11:30 a.m. Lunch at BJ’s Brewhouse; then, we will attend the 2:00 p.m. performance of the 1957 hit musical comedy, Music Man, presented by Concordia Lutheran High School drama department alumni in the CLHS auditorium. Cost for the play is $6. Reservation deadline is Monday, July 5. Wednesday, July 14, 11:30 a.m., Lunch with the Ministry Team at Zianos, Chapel Ridge. Vicar Jacob Koehler will join us. Thursday, July 15, 11:00 a.m., St. Michael Lutheran Church. We have been invited to join our friends in JOY (Just Older Youth) for Lunch at St. Michael Lutheran Church, 2131 Getz Road, followed by a visit from Teddy Roosevelt. We will meet at Holy Cross and travel by bus to share lunch with our friends at St. Michael and then enjoy Gib Young, a longtime admirer of the nation’s 26th president, who has used his resemblance to Roosevelt to build up a reputation as one of the nation’s top historical interpreters of the man. August 2021 Wednesday, August 4, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Wednesday, August 11, 11:30 a.m., Lunch with the Ministry Team at Lakeside Café on Coliseum Blvd. Pastor Ahlersmeyer will join us. Wednesday, August 18, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Wednesday, August 25, 9:15 a.m., Promenade Park. We will take a bus downtown and sail the three rivers for about 90 minutes aboard the canal boat, Sweet Breeze, followed by lunch (on your own) in Promenade Park. Sweet Breeze is a 54-foot aluminum-hulled boat and is ¾ the size of the historic canal boats that plied the Wabash and Erie Canal. Cost is $27. Reservation deadline is Monday, August 16. September 2021 Wednesday, September 1, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Wednesday, September 8, 11:30 a.m., Lunch with the Ministry Team at Sunrise Café in Pine Valley. Phil Pelz will join us. Wednesday, September 15, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Wednesday, September 22, 11:00 a.m., Welcome Center. Speaker from ACRES Land Trust; box lunch from Chick-fil-A; pictures from trip to Creation Museum and Ark Encounter. (1) ACRES Land Trust is a membership-based nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting natural and working lands in northeast Indiana and portions of southern Michigan and northwest Ohio. ACRES offers trails at many preserves for free public use. (2) Members of nine different churches in Fort Wayne and New Haven joined us on our trip to Kentucky. Cost for the lunch is $10. Reservation deadline is Friday, September 17. October 2021 Wednesday, October 6, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Wednesday, October 13, 11:30 a.m., Lunch with the Ministry Team at Don Hall’s Old Gas House, Superior Street. Chad Van Meter will join us. Wednesday, October 20, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Monday, October 25, 9:15 a.m., We will travel by bus to McMillen Health Center, with lunch (on your own) at Nine Mile, and finish with a tour of Community Harvest Food Bank. (1) McMillen Health provides vital, effective preventive health education that promotes physical, emotional, and social well-being for all ages. Our speaker will present the topic, “Brain Boosters”. (2) Community Harvest Food Bank is a nonprofit charitable organization operating in the state of Indiana with the mission to alleviate hunger through the full use of donated food and other resources. It distributes millions of pounds of food each year directly to the public. We will tour their facility and see how they collect and distribute food. Cost is $5. Reservation deadline is Monday, October 18. Please bring one or more canned food items to show our support for Community Harvest’s mission. November 2021 Wednesday, November 3, 1:30 p.m., Welcome Center. Bible study with Pastor Ahlersmeyer. Sunday, November 7, 2:00 p.m., Performing Arts Center. We will meet downtown to enjoy the Civic Theatre’s production of the musical, The Christmas Schooner, based on the historic Great Lakes voyages during the late 1800s and early 1900s. This is the true story of a Michigan shipping captain who braves the deadly winter weather to bring Christmas trees to homesick German- American families in turn-of-the-century Chicago. His voyages become a yearly tradition, despite his wife’s misgivings, until a fateful voyage makes her realize the importance of his mission. Cost is $25. Reservation deadline is Friday, October 29. Wednesday, November 10, 11:30 a.m., Lunch with the Ministry Team at The Lucky Turtle Grill, 622 E Dupont Road. Dr. Trish Cotton will join us. December 2021 Monday, December 6, 11:00 a.m., Welcome Center. Annual Advent/Christmas Dinner, catered (as in the past) with excellent food provided by Grants Catering. As has become our tradition, we will gather to share food, fun, and fellowship as we anticipate the celebration of the birth of our Savior. We’ll enjoy Christmas music, Christmas tales, and Christmas decorations to help us all to get into the Christmas spirit. Cost is $15. Reservation deadline is Monday, November 22. Sunday, December 12, 4:00 p.m., Embassy Theatre. We will travel downtown by bus to attend the Concordia Lutheran High School music department presentation of their annual Christmas Concert. Further details will be forthcoming as we get closer to the time. Reservations for Events All reservations should be made with Suzette (260-413-0501). However, she will be unavailable to take your reservation by phone on the following dates: August 2-13 and November 9-21. Expect Updates As we seem to be emerging from most of the restrictions that were imposed during the height of the pandemic, your Senior Saints Mission and Ministry Team has been planning opportunities for all of us to gather for food, fun, and fellowship as we seek to continue to grow through study, service, and celebration. However, as you will note in the above, a few uncertainties still exist, including with some of the businesses that have served us in the past. Updates will be made using the Phone Tree and Church Community Builder.
