If a crime is in progress, or life in danger dial 999. www.dorset.police.uk Crime Prevention Advice Remove It, Lock It As the weather starts to become nicer and the days are getting longer, you may decide to take your faithful hound out for a nice walk at one of the many beauty spots in the area or maybe just a stroll in the countryside with family and friends. If this is the case please be mindful of the below information. Most vehicle crime is opportunistic and therefore could be prevented. If a thief thinks there is something of value in your car, they will try their luck. A thief may pass your vehicle and see an opportunity to make some quick cash by selling items that you have left on display. You may not miss these items, but the inconvenience of the damage caused to your vehicle by the thief gaining entry is far greater than the theft itself. We generally take steps to ensure our homes and personal property are secure, but many of us are less vigilant when it comes to our vehicles. There are a few simple steps you can take to minimise your chances of becoming a victim of vehicle crime. - Remove everything from the car. Don’t hide things in the boot, glovebox or doors wells. - Take removable stereos, sat nav equipment and bags with you and wipe off any marks left behind on your windscreen. - Ensure all your windows, doors and sunroofs are secure before you walk away. - Leave a ‘No Valuables In This Vehicle’ sign on display. - Where possible, park your vehicle in a well-lit area with CCTV cameras. - Never leave your keys in the vehicle, even if you are just leaving it for a few seconds. For general enquiries please call Dorset Police on 101. If a crime is in progress, or life in danger dial 999. www.dorset.police.uk .
