The first day is always a chance to unwind and reflect and Sunday was a chance to do just that. I spent a good hour or so, wandering around Brymore with Mr Ashton and Mr Austin reflecting on a wonderful swimming gala, a busy year and discussing plans for the future. I felt the atmosphere at the swimming gala was really special and, to me, summed up everything that Brymore stands for. Firstly, competitive swimming, where it was all about gaining points for your house, no matter what your ability. Fantastic support from the boys ensured everyone had to give their best, with real sportsmanship as many competitors supported and congratulated each other. This was fol- lowed by the academic awards, where boys received cups and certificates from the Chair of Governors for their hard work throughout the year, with the reaction of the boys to the winners showing genuine acknowledgment. I am sure Mr Oliver will never forget the reception he received when accepting his full colours in recognition of the years of hard work and commitment he has shown to the boys of Brymore. Finally, the support from FOBSA and the parents was excellent, not only through a great turnout but with many waiting around for over an hour at the end so that along with their son they could seek out staff and thank them despite having long journeys home to face.

MINUTES OF THE ANNUAL PARISH MEETING OF BUTLEIGH PARISH COUNCIL HELD AT 7.00P.M. ON 5 th April 2016 IN THE CHURCH ROOM, BUTLEIGH. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT; ALAN CARR REPORTED: Welcome to the Annual Parish Meeting. This meeting gives Parishioners a chance to hear what the Parish Council has been doing on their behalf during the year and raise any questions. Council Meetings Unfortunately this year the Council has been operating with less than its full compliment of Councillors. Currently there are 5 Councillors instead of 8. So far attempts to recruit have been unsuccessful. Meetings are usually held on the first Tuesday of the month and the dates are published in advance on the Parish Noticeboard and in News and Views. There has been an 82% councillor attendance over 10 meetings. Our County and District Ward Councillor Nigel Woollcombe-Adams has attended on 3 occasions during the year. When contentious planning applications have been on the agenda a number of villagers have attended but generally public attendance has been limited. Councillors have attended training sessions in Shepton Mallet when appropriate. Planning As a Public Consultee the Parish Council looked at 30 applications. We recommended 23 for approval and 3 for refusal. Mendip District Council approved 22 and refused 1 of these. The balance were either withdrawn or are awaiting decisions. There have been a number of Planning Appeals.

WVC has responsibility for the whole parish of Whitchurch, and plays a vital role in acting on behalf of the community it represents. The Council has a wide range of powers and responsibilities including: ● Administration of open spaces, play areas, bus shelters, cemeteries, allotments. ● Assessment of planning applications and other proposals which may affect the parish ● Undertaking projects and schemes that benefit local residents ● Helping other tiers of local government keep in touch with their local communities The Village Council has previously objected to the Joint Spatial Plan (JSP). Specifically, it has significant concerns about, and has objected to the allocation of a strategic development location which allocates Whitchurch as an SDL in the JSP (7.2 Whitchurch). The WVC objection to the JLTP4 is also an objection to the principle of further unnecessary road developments which is seen as a precursor to an urban extension for Bristol, within Whitchurch, which will harm the character, setting and environment of the village. The JLTP is predicated on a false premise that the strategic development locations within the JSP are required, and are identified in the best locations. They are not. The only rationale for the relief road from Hicks Gate to Whitchurch is to open up land for development.
