She takes great pride in her job and work ethic and has worked her way up through the business at an impressive clip. She got her start in the entertainment industry working in Commercial dialogue editing and Sound design. She then played a vital role in the start up of a successful Atlanta audiobook company. Her work in those Audio and Advertising related fields earned her two Telly Awards and an Audie before she transitioned to location Sound Mixing. Serena now does Commercials occasionally as Sound Mixer but now primarily works in Television and Features. She enjoys the different paces of the two formats and schedules and her versatility and experience allows her to adapt quickly to any logistical obstacles. Serena’s enthusiasm, calm and easy going personality and enjoyment of her work are always appreciated by Directors and Producers. When not on set, you can find Serena tending to her mini farm and family in Atlanta, Georgia. Area Film Critics Association (WAFCA) announced their top honorees for 2020 this morning. A slice-of-life from filmmaker Chloé Zhao about a widow who loses her job and sells her belongings to travel the American West, “Nomadland” won Best Film, Best Director, Best Actress for Frances McDormand, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. WAFCA posthumously awarded Best Actor to the late Chadwick Boseman for his searing turn as a talented trumpeter and songwriter struggling to make a name for himself in 1927 Chicago in George C. Wolfe’s film adaptation of August Wilson’s play “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Best Supporting Actor was awarded to Leslie Odom, Jr. for his powerful performance as soul musician Sam Cooke in Regina King’s 1964-set “One Night in Miami…” and Best Supporting Actress went to Yuh-Jung Youn, a standout in Lee Isaac Chung’s “Minari.” Best Youth Performance also went to “Minari,” for Alan Kim’s memorable work as the young son of South Korean immigrants relocating from California to rural Arkansas in the 1980s. When I say this, I don’t just mean that I am a fan of Joss Whedon. I am sincere. I live and breathe his works, the ever-expanding universe— sometimes funny, sometimes scary, and often heartbreaking—that he has created. My love for Joss Whedon began in 1998. I was only eleven years old, and through an incredible moment of happenstance, and a bit of boredom, I turned the television channel to the WB and encountered my first episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer . Many of the Premiere fi lmmakers were returning directors (Errol Morris, Tom DiCillo, Victor Nunez, Gregg Araki, Kevin Smith), whose earlier, sometimes unknown, work had received a warm reception at Sundance. The festival presents 12 films representing a cross-section of important cinematic works overlooked by audiences, critics and distributors. The films are screened in the 1,500-seat Virginia Theatre, a restored movie palace built in the 1920s. A portion of the festival’s income goes toward on-going renovations at the theatre. The festival brings together the films’ producers, writers, actors and directors to help showcase their work. A film- maker or scholar introduces each film, and each screening is followed by a substantive on-stage Q&A discussion among filmmakers, critics and the audience.
