SYM-001 - Overcoming Challenges and Embracing Changes: An Action Plan for Moving Scouting Forward Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1 Start Time: 9:00AM A panel discussion with experienced fellow Volunteer Scouters and Professional Staff about ways in which we can all strengthen and improve Scouting within our Units, Districts, and Council. CUB SCOUT COLLEGE

CUB-130 - Racing by Air, Sea, and Land! Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5 Start Time: 1:00PM This class will help set you on the “course” to the Space Derby, Raingutter Regatta and Pinewood Derby finish line! All levels of experience-first time or wanting to take the race to the next level are welcomed. The instruction and discussion during the class will offer many takeaways to improve the race day experience for your Cub Scouts!

CUB-131 – Cub Scout Skills They Don't Teach in Basic Training Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM A skit? What's a skit? That wasn't covered in Position-Specific Training!?! In this course, you will learn at least 10 "scout" skills that you will need along the way that will make you a more prepared and confident leader.

CUB-150 - Songs for the Musically Challenged Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 6 Start Time: 2:00PM You don't have to be a able to carry a tune to be a great song leader. This course will give even the most musically challenged some tools to lead songs that your cubs will love into your den and pack meetings.

CUB-151 - STOP: Staying Safe and Being Found in the Woods Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM Teaching a hands-on approach for your scouts to stay safe and be found if lost while hiking. STOP = stop, think, observe, plan. CUB-152 - Strong Committee = Strong Pack Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM A strong and well-formed pack committee is the foundation for planning a strong pack calendar that will keep scouts coming back and attract new scouts. Learn what roles are critical for a well-functioning committee and how the committee works together to plan and execute a dynamic and varied pack calendar.

CUB-201 - Introducing Technology to Increase Engagement Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 6 Start Time: 2:00PM A course that highlights standards of behavior for tech use at Pack and Den meetings; useful apps, websites, databases and devices; ways to incorporate technology into cub programs, use of technology by scouts, STEM related tech use; technology as a tool for recruitment and retention.

CUB-202 - Recruiting New Scouts Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM Learn best practices, discover tools and unlock resources to make the most of your recruiting efforts. Review and discussion of the ways in which to drive online unit/program awareness and conversion as well as outline 2 outdoor methods that a Pack may utilize to drive on-site/in-person recruitment.

CUB-250 - Cub Scouting for Busy Families Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM Do your Cub Scout families have children who participate in multiple activities? Does your Cub Scout Pack struggle with limited leadership or time resources? Do scheduling conflicts add stress to your Leaders or families? Are advancement make-up events becoming the norm? CUB-251 - How To Use A Den Chief Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM Learn which tasks to delegate to Den Chiefs as you prep for the next activity, what Den Chiefs are trained to teach, and why you should use Den Chiefs.

CUB-252 - Communications in Cub Scouting Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM Making sure that everyone knows what is going on is one of the hardest tasks in scouting. Learn about a variety of ways and strategies for communicating to and between members of packs and dens.

CUB-301 - What Cub Leaders Should Know About "the District" Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5 Start Time: 1:00PM There is a whole scouting world that exists outside your pack -- planning and running great events and programs that you and your cubs can participate in as a pack and as individual families and as leaders. There are resources for knowledge and help. Learn all about what a "district" is and how it can help you deliver an even greater program in your pack.

GEN-215 - 103 Uses for Duct Tape Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM What can you do with Duct Tape? Come to this course and find out how you can engage and challenge your Scouts to harness their inner MacGyver.

GEN-219 - Changes to the Guide to Safe Scouting Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM What are the updates to the most recent Guide to Safe Scouting? Did you know you can't use a trampoline or do punkin chunkin? The Guide to Safe Scouting is an overview of Scouting policies and procedures gleaned from a variety of sources by BSA that is continually being updated. Come and learn about this important document and its recent changes.

GEN-222 - Fuel Safety Orientation Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM This is a hands-on course presented for any unit using liquid fuels in its outdoor program. Did you know that propane is a liquid fuel or that the use of denatured alcohol is permitted, but the use of home-made stoves is not? This formerly required course will provide valuable information on which liquid fuels you can and cannot use, as well as how to safely use them. GEN-232 - Interfaith Services for Units Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM The added the Twelfth Point of the Scout Law, "A Scout is Reverent," to the original points of the Law created by Lord Baden Powell, the founder of Scouting. Scouting at every level is meant to underscore our Duty to God, just as we work with Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers to see them grow into mentally, physically, and morally well-developed American citizens. This course will give participants pointers on conducting services that will give the youth in our Cub, Scout, and programs positive experiences in worship that transcend the diverse faith communities represented in a given Pack, Troop, or Crew.

GEN-236 - Vegetarian Cooking Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM Vegetarian Cooking: will share some tips about supporting vegetarian Scouts/Scouters in your Troop/Pack, provide sample recipes, and will have vegetarian snacks to sample.

GEN-250 - Introduction to Scoutbook Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM With a tap on your phone you can deposit a check, update your family grocery list or share a photo. Shouldn’t keeping track of a Scout’s advancement be just as easy? The Boy Scouts of America thinks so. Imagine doing this all wherever you have internet access and on any of the devices you use every day. It’s all possible with Scoutbook. This overview and Q&A is the baseline for embracing the BSA’s “Official Unit Management Tool."

GEN-270 - Supporting Scouts With Special Needs Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 6 Start Time: 2:00PM Come find out tips on supporting Scouts with special needs including autism, Down syndrome, communication impairments, learning disorders, and physical disabilities. Get tips on dealing with energetic youths in general and learn how to include all of your Scouts in your unit’s activities.

GEN-280 - Bullying Awareness Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5 Start Time: 1:00PM Bullying is incompatible with the principles of Scouting and should be taken seriously whenever and wherever it occurs. Unit leaders should understand how to prevent these incidents and be prepared to deal with it proactively and thoughtfully.

GEN-281 - Risk Management Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM What were the biggest risk items in Scouting this year? Learn what should be reviewed before outings to make sure that we don't have paperwork after the event.

GEN-311 - BSA Conservation Awards Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 2 Start Time: 10:00AM Introduction to conservation awards Scouts and Scouters can earn while participating in the Cub Scout, Scouts BSA and Venturing programs. You will learn how to properly heat your Dutch oven using charcoal and cook a basic one-pot meal, as well as how to select and care for a Dutch oven.

Occurring at the closing of the meeting, it is an opportunity to deliver the final thought that will go home with your Scouts. Discuss these key steps in the advancement process and learn how to keep them from becoming stumbling blocks.

SCT-249 - Winter – the Next Great Outing Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5 Start Time: 1:00PM Learn to prepare for and enjoy the winter camping/hiking experience. Topics will include clothing, safety, sleeping systems, and hiking/backpacking.

SCT-270 - Advancement for Members with Special Needs Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM Scouting advancement does not necessarily end at age 18 for its members with special needs. In this course you will learn how to register a member beyond the “age of accountability” and how to apply for alternative requirements.

SCT-304 - Challenging & Retaining Older Scouts Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM How do you make Scouting attractive for that older scout who is stressed for time?

SCT-362 - Lightweight Backpacking Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 3 Start Time: 11:00AM Backpack too heavy? Learn how to reduce your load and still enjoy the outing with lighter gear. Boost comfort and miles and when not saddled by a heavy pack. After all, the journey is the destination. VEN-102 - Venturing Advisor Position-Specific Training Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1-2-3-5-6-7 (6 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Basic information adults will need to help youth leaders manage a crew. This course aligns with the new Venturing program.

VEN-218 - Crew Officer Orientation Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 7 Start Time: 3:00PM This training module is geared primarily to Venturing youth that are elected into positions as officers within their Venturing crew, but it can also be used by adult leaders to learn the duties of the officers in the crew. This course is very useful for youth officers to fully understand their roles and responsibilities as it relates to Crew Officers Briefings and Seminars. This course will help the youth develop an annual plan of activities for the crew, as well as acquiring leadership and team-building skills.

VEN-220 - Crew Committee Challenge Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1-2-3-5 (4 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Basic information adults will need to help youth leaders manage a crew as a Venturing Crew Committee Chair or Committee Member. This course aligns with the new Venturing program. VEN-224 - Project Management Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5-6-7 (3 hours total) Start Time: 1:00PM The goal of this course is to provide a Venturer with an understanding of project management and the tools, techniques and templates that you can use to effectively work on a project successfully. Outlined are steps that will enable you and your team to plan and manage a project from conception to conclusion; in this process, you'll meet everyone's expectations. The course will in plain everyday words explain how a project manager and team can effectively: define the project, organize the work, create a plan, and work the plan to a successful conclusion.

VEN-226 - Goal Setting & Time Management Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1-2-3 (3 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM This course will provide a fun, interactive experience while learning Time Management. This course introduces established methods for improving a Venturer’s ability to effectively manage a daily timeline in his or her life. Completing this training module will fulfill the Venturing Discovery Award requirement for the goal setting-time management training course.

VEN-228-1 - Mentoring for Venturing Crews Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1-2 (2 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Mentoring for Venturing Crews is designed to help Venturers understand how to mentor other members of the crew and appreciate the role mentoring plays in personal growth and leadership for both the mentee and mentor. COLLEGE OF YOUTH LEADERSHIP & DEVELOPMENT

The University of Scouting has established a youth program which is focused on developing leadership positions for Den Chiefs, Chaplain Aides and leadership positions for Scouting and Venture Crews.

Den chief training is an essential leadership position where older scouts serve as role models for Cub Scouts in a Den and Pack setting. Den Chiefs also encourage and prepare Webelos and AOL’s to successfully transition to the scouting program. All participants will receive a trained patch on successfully completing this course.

ILST and ILSC prepare youth unit leaders to function effectively in their roles. This training is geared to meeting the training requirements for youth to attend advance training such as National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). Units specific ILST of ILSC is offered so that youth would meet the requirements to attend NYLT training.

The Leadership Academy is focused on imparting advanced leadership skills for scouts and crew members so that they are prepared in their roles.

The Chaplain Aide Workshop has been added this year to solidify understanding of the role of Chaplain Aide and provide resources to help them be effective in this role.

YLD-010 - Den Chief Training Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 1-2-3 (3 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Calling all Scouts wishing to become den chiefs and active den chiefs who are currently untrained. This course will train you to successfully meet your den chief responsibilities and help deliver the cub program. It will also help you work with adult den leaders to plan and execute both skill and fun based den activities. All participants will receive a trained patch and items that will help you grow in this important leadership position.

YLD-021 - Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST) Capacity: 36 Spots Available Time Blocks: 1-2-3 (3 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Leadership training and the leadership experience is one of the most important aspects of scouting. Scouts may have been elected or appointed to a position and think, “I’m not prepared to lead others,” however those who put you in this position see your potential! This course will give you tools to lead yourself and then lead others to reach common goals in scouting. This course will cover Troop and organization, leadership actions such as creating a vision, goal setting, communication, planning, delegation, and the scouting philosophy of servant leadership. Scouts who attend this course will receive a trained patch. Completion of ILST is required for scouts who plan on attending the National Youth Leadership Training course (NYLT). This course will be team taught by youth who have completed NYLT and experienced adult leaders.

YLD-020 - Leadership Academy Capacity: 36 Spots Available - 13 years and older Time Blocks: 5-6-7 (3 hours total) Start Time: 1:00PM The Leadership Academy is targeted to any Scout or Venture Scout (13 YO+) currently in a leadership position in their unit who wants to hone their leadership skills or wants to be prepared to take on senior leadership roles in their unit. For Scouts prior ILST training is a pre-requisite (training at your unit with Scoutmaster note or by taking the ILST at the UoS). This course is an excellent precursor to any Scout or Venture Scout interested in taking National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT). This course will introduce practical leadership skills such as the leading EDGE, what to do when things go wrong, dealing with chaos, anti-bullying techniques, and making realistic plans. Participants will create a unit activity plan which will be presented to the group for discussion. Troop members will receive the SPL Handbook.

YLD-025 - Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC) and Leadership Academy Capacity: 36 Spots Available - 13 years and older Time Blocks: 1-2-3-5-6-7 (6 hours total) Start Time: 9:00AM Introduction to Leadership Skills for Crews (ILSC) was created to help Venturers learn and practice the attitudes and skills needed to effectively participate and lead your crew. The morning program will start with Crew Officer Orientation which will provide an overview of Crew organization and leadership positions. Then program will then move to creating a vision, goal setting and communication (in conjunction with ILST). This course will then reconvene after lunch to by participation in the Leadership Academy. This course will introduce practical leadership skills such as the leading EDGE, what to do when things go wrong, dealing with chaos and anti-bullying techniques, and making realistic plans. These sessions will also focus on group decision making, dealing with problems encountered in leadership, team development and effective planning. Crew members will be required to attend both ILSC and the Leadership academy to complete requirements to receive their trained patch. ILSC is a prerequisite to attending NYLT. YLD-232 - Chaplain Aide Workshop Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 5-6-7 (3 hours total) Start Time: 1:00PM “A Scout is Reverent” is the 12th point of the Scout Law. In order to meet this obligation, having a trained, engaged Chaplain Aide is essential for any unit. This leadership training is designed to provide scouts with an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of this position. This includes: the understanding of the role of religion in scouting; assisting with interfaith services at the unit level; providing guidance and resources to encourage Chaplain Aides to understand and support the Religious Emblem Program in Scouting, and promoting participation in Scout Anniversary Week activities such as Scout Sunday, Scout Sabbath, etc. This course will be conducted by experienced Adult leaders and Chaplain Aides.

SCT-254 - Life to Eagle (Scout Session) Capacity: Unlimited Time Blocks: 6-7 (2 hours total) Start Time: 2:00PM Once a Scout attains the rank of Life, thoughts soon turn to Eagle. This course is for the new Life Scout. Learn about how to go about arranging an Eagle project and which types of projects are acceptable. Bring your questions. You will also receive your Eagle Scout application and workbook. Conducted by the Advancement Committee.
