Résumé : Les études de phylogénie moléculaire sur les Lépidoptères Rhopalocères et Zygènes sont de plus en plus nombreuses ces dernières années modifiant la systématique et la taxinomie de ces deux groupes. Une mise à jour complète est réalisée dans ce travail. Un cadre décisionnel a été élaboré pour les niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifique avec une approche intégrative de la taxinomie. Ce cadre intégre notamment un aspect biogéographique en tenant compte des zones-refuges potentielles pour les espèces au cours du dernier maximum glaciaire. Cette démarche permet d’avoir une approche homogène pour le classement des taxa aux niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifiques. Les conséquences pour l’acquisition des données dans le cadre d’un inventaire national sont développées. Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -

Croat., Vol. 7, No. 3., 227¿274, 1998, Zagreb Researching the vascular flora of the Po`ega Valley and the surrounding mountains, alto- gether 1467 plant taxa were recorded. An analysis was made of which floral elements particular plant taxa belonged to, as well as an analysis of the life forms. In the vegetation cover of this area plants of the Eurasian floral element as well as European plants represent the major propor- tion. This shows that in the phytogeographical aspect this area belongs to the Eurosiberian- Northamerican region. According to life forms, vascular plants are distributed in the following numbers: H=650, T=355, G=148, P=209, Ch=70, Hy=33. E-mail [email protected] Received: 3 November 2011 Returned for revision: 9 December 2011 Accepted: 1 March 2012 Published electronically: 25 April 2012 † Background and aims Tribe Orchideae (Orchidaceae: Orchidoideae) comprises around 62 mostly terrestrial genera, which are well represented in the Northern Temperate Zone and less frequently in tropical areas of both the Old and New Worlds. Phylogenetic relationships within this tribe have been studied previously using only nuclear ribosomal DNA (nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer, nrITS). However, different parts of the phylogenetic tree in these analyses were weakly supported, and integrating information from different plant genomes is clearly necessary in orchids, where reticulate evolution events are putatively common. The aims of this study were to: (1) obtain a well-supported and dated phylogenetic hypothesis for tribe Orchideae, (ii) assess appropriateness of recent nomenclatural changes in this tribe in the last decade, (3) detect possible examples of reticulate evolution and (4) analyse in a temporal context evolutionary trends for subtribe Orchidinae with special emphasis on pollination systems. -

Magheru St., 410048, Oradea, Romania Abstract The present paper reunites the morphological and ecological description of the main species belonging to Potentilla genus present in "Alexandru Beldie" Herbarium from Romanian National Institute for Research and Development in Forestry "Marin Drăcea" (INCDS), Bucharest. Furthermore, the paper systemize the herbarium specimens based on species, harvest year, the place from where they were harvested and the specialist that gathered them. The first part of the article shortly describes the herbarium and its specific, together with a presentation of the material and method used for elaborating this paper. As such, the material that was used is represented by the 276 plates that contain the specimens of 69 species belonging to the Potentilla genus. Besides the description of harvested Potentilla species, the article presents the European map of their harvesting locations, together with a synthetic analysis of their harvesting periods. The paper ends with a series of conclusions regarding the analysis of the Potentilla genus species and specimens present in the herbarium. Key words: herbar, plante, flowers, frunze, Potentilla. INTRODUCTION Romanian National Institute for Research and Development in Forestry "Marin Drăcea" (INCDS) from Bucharest hosts an extremely valuable collection of herbaceous plants. This herbarium is registered in "INDEX HERBARIORUM" which is a guide to the world's herbaria and their staff established since 1935. -
May Maritime Alps
Maritime Alps Spring in Mercantour A Greentours Tour Report 16th to 23rd May 2014 Led by Paul Cardy Daily Accounts and Systematic Lists written by Paul Cardy Our fifth spring tour to the Maritime Alps was superbly productive, especially botanically, and very enjoyable, with almost unbroken perfect weather. Last year had been a late spring in the region, with snow laying much lower than is usual, and some sites inaccessible, but this year the flora was even a little advanced, with several species being recorded for the first time. For the first four nights we were based at a small pleasant family-run hotel in the Valdeblore hamlet of La Bolline, a fine location, well situated for all excursions, and with a small grocery and a bakery just along the street where I could do the daily picnic shopping whilst the group enjoyed breakfast in the hotel. Dinners at the restaurants in the village, in nearby Rimplas, and in St.Dalmas were very good. For the last three nights we moved to the other side of Mercantour National Park, and the hamlet of Casterino, which allowed easy access into the Italian Alpi Marittime, a superbly productive area. On the arrival day, having arrived the previous evening from my home in Italy, a few valleys to the north, at Nice airport I soon met most of the group, and before long we were en route north through ever more impressive scenery. Bob and Marlene were arriving on an afternoon flight, and we met up with them that evening in the hotel. -
Do Rewardless Orchids Show a Positive Relationship Between Phenotypic Diversity and Reproductive Success?

Among rewardless orchids, pollinator sampling behavior has been suggested to drive a positive relationship between population phenotypic variability and absolute reproductive success, and hence population fitness. We tested this hypothesis by constructing experimental arrays using the rewardless orchid Dactylorhiza sambucina, which is dimorphic for corolla color. We found no evidence that polymorphic arrays had higher mean reproductive success than monomorphic arrays for pollinia removal, pollen deposition, or fruit set. For pollinia removal, monomorphic yellow arrays had significantly greater reproductive success, and monomorphic red the least. A tendency for yellow arrays to have higher pollen deposition was also found. We argue that differential population fitness was most likely to reflect differential numbers of pollinators attracted to arrays, through preferential long-distance attraction to arrays with yellow inflorescences. Correlative studies of absolute reproductive success in 52 populations of D. sambucina supported our experimental results. To our knowledge this is the first study to suggest that attraction of a greater number of pollinators to rewardless orchids may be of greater functional importance to population fitness, and thus ecology and conservation, than are the behavioral sequences of individual pollinators. -

Floral deception is widespread in orchids, with more than one-third of the species being polli- nated this way. The evolutionary success of deceptive orchids is puzzling, as species employing this strategy are thought to have low reproductive success (less flowers yielding fruits) because of low pollination rates. However, direct measurements of total seed production in orchids – which is a bet- ter measure of reproductive success – are scarce due to the extremely small size of their seeds. 2. Here, we quantified seed numbers in 1015 fruits belonging to 48 orchid species from the Pannon- ian ecoregion (central Europe) and obtained fruit set and thousand-seed weight data for these species from the literature. We used phylogenetic comparative methods to test the hypothesis that deceptive species should compensate for their lower fruit set by having either more flowers, larger seeds or more seeds in a fruit. -

Catania/Zafferana – Cloudy and dull with some rain. Three tour group members, Edna, Barbara and Pauline, met Paul at the check-in at Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal. Aase and Edith joined the group at departure gate 104 for British Airways flight BA2594 to Catania, Sicily. Upon our arrival, we soon cleared passport control, customs and baggage reclaim, before collecting our minibus. Leaving Catania Airport, we joined the link road west to where we transferred onto the north bound A18 to Giarre. Here we left the motorway and took the road north to Zafferana Etnea and the Hotel Abergo Airone, our base for the next four nights. After settling into our rooms, we met for drinks prior to dinner, and Paul outlined the structure of the coming week, before we went into the restaurant for our evening meal. Day 2 Sunday 30th April Weather: Bright and sunny at first, becoming cloudy and wet after lunch. After a leisurely breakfast, we made our way down towards Zafferana, and on to the road to Milo. Unfortunately, cloud obscured the volcano, so we did not stop for pictures. -
