The film version is an unfortunate necessity, as the livemusical will not be played in the USA with its original cast. My onlycomplaint with the filming of the musical is that instead of a broader,panned out view, the shots are very zoomed, leaving out otherhappenings on stage and exposing actors' microphones and hair pieces.Ben Lewis does the great Michael Crawford homage with his strong, clearvoice. ALW triumphs with beautiful recurring themes and an excitingrock sound for songs like 'Beneath a Moonless Sky' and 'The BeautyUnderneath', delighting Phans with the occasional riff from theoriginal. Finally, the last half hour is consistently unpredictable,edge-of-your-seat exciting. Love Never Dies is sufficiently unique, yetpowerful and unique to hold a flame to its precursor and stand alone asanother spell- binding ALW show. Beyond the spectacular singing, beautiful costumes, and amazing setdesign, Love Never Dies was a great disappointment. The story is simplynot good: plot holes, out-of-character actions, and an absurd ending. Ifound it difficult to sympathize or identify with the characters. Theplot also lacks narrative cohesion, almost as if the entire story is aweak collection of character vignettes. The conflicts of the plot aretoo dispersed to create a strong narrative. The lyrics also leavesomething to be desired. The whole thing came off as a musical versionof a mediocre fan fiction. This was a very poor follow-up to theincomparable Phantom of the Opera. Since the time I went to SAO PAULO in Brazil and watched the Phantom ofthe Opera, I could confidently say that I was another lover of thisstory. The phantom of the opera is a set of beautiful sceneries, withbeautiful music and a thrilling story. Nevertheless, as another authorwho got a little extra excited with the money made, Andrew Lloyd Webbercreated a sequel, based on a book that was just a floppy sequel for"the phantom of the opera" according to reviewers. Fortunately, whocreated this second book was not Gaston Leurox, which means, this bookwas pretty much a fanfic story. What to expect then? A new musicalbased on a fanfic story? Another big flop. "Love Never Dies" kills allthe characters from the original, destroys the poetry existent in "ThePhantom of the Opera", and in addition to it, it is full of clichéswith a bad end. Nothing against New York, I particularly love thiscity, but not as a setting for "The Phantom". Music is just not asmemorable, except for the "Till I hear you sing". The end, BLEEH, justmade me cry. I was so disappointed with ALW. In my particularexperience with theater, yes I have too agree they have SOME beautifulsceneries with lots of modernity. But the story is not just sceneries,and the big point that made the Phantom of the Opera the second mostwatched musical over the world was the truth behind the story; thepassion that ALW created the musical, inspired by his ex-wife's (SarahBrightman) voice. That's what lacks in "Love never dies"; the truthbehind the characters, the love that just increases as the story goesby. I still think that ALW will get into his wits once again, and willget this story out of the theaters. Until there, the poetry from theoriginal story will be trying to survive from this big shot in ahospital for killed dramas. Love Never Dies subtitles. "The Sequel to The Phantom of the Opera". Set 10 years later, the Phantom has escaped from Paris to New York where he lives amongst the joyrides and freak shows of Coney Island. He has finally found a place for his music to soar, all that is missing is his love Christine Daaé. In a bid to win back her love, the Phantom lures Christine, her husband Raoul, and their young son Gustave from Manhattan, to the glittering and glorious world of Coney Island. they have no idea what lies in store for them. You truly haven’t experienced Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies until you see this spectacular new Australian production, filmed at Melbourne’s iconic Regent Theatre..

I must admit that I am a sucker for revisiting seldom-revived plays, and Terrence McNally’s Master Class is no exception. It was the 1996 Tony-winning drama for Best Play, Best Actress, Zoe Caldwell, and Best Featured Actress, Audra McDonald. I know back then I was really rooting for it to win Best Play, and there was no contest in the Best Actress category. No one had a chance running against the legendary Ms. Caldwell, La Divina of the theatrical world. Seeing what Master Class was up against that year, I can understand the victory in 1996. (The other Best Play nominees were weak and, in some cases, big, pretentious bores). However, if it would have opened earlier this year, and qualified for the 2011 Tonys, other than Tyne Daly as Maria Callas for Best Actress, what else would it have been up for? This is not to say that Master Class is not still enjoyable, entertaining, and enthralling. In this version, it seems less of a play and more of an extended monologue.

This growing trend was highlighted by the fact that a significant number of the 2015 and 2016 Tony nominated productions originated at or were produced by a nonprofit theatre. These professional nonprofit theatres, generally referred to as regional or resident theatres, are actively shaping the theatrical work that is appearing on the Great White Way. From 2000 - 2016, the Tony Award for Best New Musical has been awarded to nine productions that came from a non-profit theatre company; essentially the out-of-town tryout model that served as a popular method to work plays or musicals in the past has transformed into the regional/resident commercially enhanced model.
