Gathering Song Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. Penitential Act For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, Opening Prayer and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. LITURGY OF THE WORD He ascended into heaven Reading I: Isaiah 40.1-5, 9-11 and is seated at the right hand of the Father. Response: Psalm 85 He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins Reading II: 2 Peter 3.8-14 and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead Gospel Acclamation and the life of the world to come. Amen.

December 6, 2020 2 Parish Life Weekly Schedule

Christmas under COVID. Sunday, December 6 More “Blah, Blah, Blah” Who would have 7:30am Confessions at CR imagined, when all this 8:30am for the People of the from Msgr. Mark started for us back in Eastside Parishes at CR March, that we would still 9:00am Elementary Virtual Formation Gr. 1-3 be struggling with the 9:45am Elementary Virtual Formation Gr. 4-5 coronavirus? With positive reports on the vaccine front, it’s time to 10:30am Mass +Jeanne Gulan at SM recall Winston Churchill’s words after the Battle of El Alamein: “This is 6:00pm High School Virtual Formation not the end, or even the beginning of the end, but it is perhaps the end Monday, December 7 of the beginning.” It’s not time to loosen our grip. St. Ambrose of Milan 5:30pm Mass +Chet and Margaret Kwarciany But what about a pandemic ? There is a flood of questions for at CR us to consider. Dare we meet with our families? Should we travel? 6:00pm Confessions at CR What holiday customs will we need to set aside for this year? Beyond urging caution and wisdom, I can’t help you with those matters … but I Tuesday, December 8 do want to address how we will handle our liturgical celebration of the FEAST OF THE great feast here at the Eastside Parishes. OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY 12:10pm Mass for the People of the We, too, are feeling a little torn. Worship is key to a believers’ Eastside Parishes at CR Christmas … but we also want you all to be safe. Precautions about 12:45pm Adoration at CR touch, the wearing of masks, and continued concern over social 5:30pm Mass +Ralph Murkowski at SM distancing all remain in place. The virus will not be taking off for the 5:30pm Rosary and Novena at CR holidays, but we also have some things going for us. First, in an effort to offer more services under our 25% occupancy rule, the Bishop is Wednesday, December 9 allowing the first Mass of Christmas to begin at 2:00 pm on the 24th. St. Juan Diego Second, we have two churches, four clergy, a computer program to 12:10pm Mass +Al Garza at CR keep track of reservations, dedicated musicians, and a crew of that now 6:00pm Middle School Virtual Formation essential ministry--”hosts and sanitizers”. Thursday, December 10 12:10pm Mass +Jim Gassner at CR The most important decision about attending Christmas worship is yours to make. The dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on this Friday, December 11 great feast still stands. No one is obliged to attend Christmas Mass. St. Damasus I You need to do what you must to remain safe. 12:10pm Mass: Special Intention for the Protection of Emergency and But if you and your family choose to come to Christmas Mass, we will do Public Safety Workers at CR our part. To make even “social distanced seats” more available, we are increasing the number of liturgies from five to eight. See below: NOTE: The rosary will be said beginning at 11:35 am before the Daily Masses. @ 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm at both The Divine Mercy Chaplet will follow Mass. Resurrection and St. Michael Churches 3RD SUNDAY OF ADVENT Christmas Eve @ 6:00 pm at St. Michael Parish Saturday, December 12 Christmas Eve @ 8:00 pm at Resurrection Parish 3:00pm Confessions at SM Christmas Morning at 8:30 am at Resurrection Parish 4:00pm Mass for the People of the and 10:30 am St. Michael. Eastside Parishes at SM

To make this work well, reservations will be a must. Either access Sunday, December 13 the website at eastsideparishes.org or call 715-842-4283 and tell us the NO Elementary Formation time, the place, and how many will be attending. As liturgy times “fill 7:30am Confessions at CR 8:30am Mass +Robert and Mary Jane Balz up,” I trust you will be flexible enough to attend another liturgy at at CR whatever time is still available. Maybe I am overthinking this, and there 10:30am Mass +John Sahr, Jr. at SM really won’t be a crush of people wanting to worship on Christmas … 6:00pm High School Virtual Formation but even more frightening to me is that people will just “assume” there SM - St. Michael Church ٠ will be room, show up at the door, and expect a seat. There is no CR - Church of the Resurrection amount of “I guess there’s no place in the inn” that will make up for ————————– that clumsiness. Proper planning can avoid all of that. Between us and our sentimental celebrations of Christmas stand John the Opportunities for Baptist, giving the seasonal warning that there is no honest way to the joy and peace we really seek without internal renewal. It is from that bit of per- Advent Confession ennial wisdom that the practice of an Advent celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation springs.

But how to help make this happen in the days of COVID-19? Our answer is to have many, many opportunities for you to celebrate the sacrament spread over the next two-and-a-half weeks. We will also have one communal Opportunity—a brief scripture service and homily followed with the opportunity for individual confession with many priests on hand—on Saturday, December 19, at 10:30 am at St. Michael Parish. In addition to that and the three usual weekly times, we are adding seven extra opportunities when one or both priests will be on hand until “all are served.”
