NOTES Watsonia 25 (2005) NORTH WALES SPECIES of RUBUS L
Watsonia 25: 289–298 (2005) NOTES Watsonia 25 (2005) 289 Notes NORTH WALES SPECIES OF RUBUS L. (ROSACEAE) IN THE ISLE OF WIGHT In 1982 two sizeable populations of Rubus effrenatus Newton, a species up till then (and still) otherwise known only in north-west Wales, v.cc. 46–49, were discovered in the Isle of Wight, v.c. 10, at a distance of 11 km from each other. One population is near the Island’s southernmost tip, mainly among bracken along a crescent of gravel overlying the chalk on the north face of Head Down but with an outlying patch in a deep ‘green lane’ about 1·4 km to the north-west. The other site is towards the Island’s south-east corner, along a much-frequented public footpath forming the north boundary of Sandown Golf Course, a relic fragment of a once-extensive tract of partly- wooded acid ground that constituted Blackpan and Lake Commons. The species is unrepresented in Rubus collections made in these two localities by 19th century specialists in the genus, and that negative evidence, taken together with a subjective impression that both populations have expanded slightly in the years since their discovery, could be interpreted as indicating a relatively recent arrival in each case (Allen 2003). Though the two may have had independent origins, it is equally possible that one population has been derived from the other – in which case that on Head Down seems the more likely to be the parent colony. In 2002–4 two successive finds of another Rubus species provided a near-duplicate of this very unexpected national distribution pattern. -

Island(s) of occurrence: Balearic Islands (Ba), Corsica (Co), Sardinia (Sa), Sicily (Si), Crete (Cr), Cyprus (Cy) Occurrence: P = present; A = alien (not native to a specific island); D = doubtful presence Distribution type: ENE = Extremely Narrow Endemic (only one population) NE = Narrow Endemic (≤ five populations) RE = Regional Endemic (only one Island) IE = Insular Endemic (more than one island) W = distributed in more islands or in a wider area. Distribution type defines the "regional responsibility" of an Island on a plant species. Criteria: Red Lists (RL): plant species selected is included in the red list (the plant should be EN, CR or VU in order to justify a conservation action); Regional Responsibility (RR): plant species selected plays a key role for the island; the "regional responsibility" criterion is the first order of priority at local level, because it establishes a high priority to plants whose distribution is endemic to the study area (an island in our specific case). Habitats Directive (HD): plant species selected is listed in the Annexes II and V of the Habitat Directive. Wetland plant (WP): plant species selected is a wetland species or grows in wetland habitat. G. Korakis, A. Gerasimidis, K. Poirazidis & V. Kati Floristic records from Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli National Park, NE Greece Abstract Korakis, G., Gerasimidis, A., Poirazidis, K. & Kati, V.: Floristic records from Dadia-Lefkimi- Soufli National Park, NE Greece. — Fl. Medit. 16: 11-32. 2006. — ISSN 1120-4052. The Dadia–Lefkimi–Soufli National Park in North-Eastern Greece is a protected area distin- guished as particularly significant not only at the national but also at the European level. The long-term but mild human exploitation coupled with the heterogeneity of the habitats and the maintenance of nature have resulted in the conservation of an important biodiversity of biota, characterized by the existence of unique and rare species of flora and fauna. The present study provides an initial recording of the flora in the area based on fieldwork, and consisting of a total of 351 vascular taxa. Collective data on the chorology, life-form and the habitats of plant taxa are presented. Introduction The Dadia–Lefkimi–Soufli National Park is situated on the North - Eastern tip of Greece, close to the Turkish and Bulgarian borders. It is a representative example of preser- vation of the natural environment in a healthy state, as it has undergone only a small degree of ecosystems mismanagement and low levels of human annoyance. These conditions, in conjunction with the Park’s geographical location is situated between two continents, as well as the heterogeneity of the landscape, which has been generated by traditional human activities, have created an ideal place for the existence of many species of flora and fauna (Adamakopoulos & al. -

We examined the possible antigenotoxic/genotoxic properties of methanolic extract of H. olympicum subsp. olympicum (HOE) on human lymphocytes by employing sister chromatid exchange, micronucleus and comet assay and analyzed its chemical composition by GCxGC-TOF/MS. The anti-growth activity against MCF-7 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines was assessed by using the ATP viability assay. Cell death mode was investigated with fluorescence staining and ELISA assays. The major components of the flower and trunk were determined as eicosane, heptacosane, 2-propen-1-ol, hexahydrofarnesyl acetone and α-muurolene. HOE caused significant DNA damage at selected doses (250–750 µg/ml) while chromosomal damage was observed at higher concentrations (500 and 750 µg/ml). HOE demonstrated anti-growth activity in a dose-dependent manner between 3.13–100 µg/ml. -
Výměna Semen
Příloha časopisu Klubu skalničkářů Praha VÝMĚNA SEMEN INDEX SEMINUM 2014–2015 Příloha časopisu Klubu skalničkářů Praha Klub skalničkářů Praha Vám předkládá Index seminum – seznam semen rostlin pro rok 2014 – 2015 (Index). Tento seznam obsahuje přehled semen, která nabízejí do výměny členové našeho klubu, včetně zahraničních členů. Děkujeme všem, kteří zaslali semena k výměně. Umožnili tak dalším skalničkářům rozšířit si tak sortiment pěstovaných rostlin. Jako každoročně jsme ověřili jména všech Vámi dodaných položek za pomoci dostupné literatury a internetu. Zřetelné zkomoleniny jsme opravili, neověřitelná jména jsme v Indexu ponechali bez úprav a označili znaménkem +.
