Turn Map Layers On and Off

Visibility Confirm that the Layers tab is activated or click the Layers button on the bottom left area of the Control Panel. Now you can change which information is displayed on the map by checking the box [clicking within the box] next to the data layer you want to view.  means that the data layer or grouping of layers is visible.  means that the data layer or grouping of layers is not visible.

Data groupings A number of data layers together is a data grouping. Sometimes the group is not expanded so you can’t see all the individual data layers. If this happens, you can click on the plus sign to expand the group. To contract or fold up the data grouping, click on the minus sign next to the data grouping name.

Visibility of data in groupings To make the data layers within a data grouping (i.e. FIAT Analysis Products) visible you would need to check the boxes for both the grouping and each data layer you want visible.

Transparency Some layers or data groupings allow for adjusting their transparency (to see the layers drawn underneath them). Use the slider bar to the right of the layer or data grouping to control the transparency. If the bar is all the way to the right, there is no transparency. When it is all the way to the left, there is complete transparency.

Getting Details for Map Features There are two ways to display information about layers in the map through interaction in the Data Frame. Map Tips and the Identity Tool.

Map Tips A single, left click anywhere in the Data Frame results in an informational popup called a Map Tip. It briefly lists information about the layer(s) at that spot on the screen. The Base Map layers will not show in the popups.

OR

 If more than one data layer is in the same spot, use the drop down arrow or directional arrows on the popup to change the information on the screen.

 Click on View Additional Details within the popup to get a complete list of the feature’s information for the layer in the dropdown menu of the dialog box. The details will display in the Control Panel, the feature will highlight in the Data Frame, and the popup will disappear.
