The much anticipated ADV-lites arrived. BMW led with the G 310 GS, only the Indian-built machine didn’t convince us (here at RUST) that it’s the full- ticket. Likewise Suzuki’s V-Strom 250 (sprung out of the blue) is little more than a commuter with a few styling licks. Not the real deal at all.

BIKE TEST: 2016 HONDA AFRICA TWIN Honda has ADVENTUREbeen mostly silent and near absent from the offroad market for too long. It’s back … and it ain’t doing it by halves STORY AND PHotos BY ASHENHURST 38 | | 39 BIKE TEST: 2016 HONDA AFRICA TWIN Honda sold the Africa Twin from its earliest sneak-peeks on the internet as a light and thin bike that’s built for offroad but I gotta be honest, I wasn’t buying that line ou don’t need me to retell words in large chunks. the history of Honda’s The AT is a good looking machine Africa Twin (AT) but in the with aggressive lines and not overly interest of being accurate derivative of any other bike. Our test for us in Australia it’s bike came with Pirelli MT90s which we’d simple; there is no never used before but it helped bolster Yhistory. Regardless of the endless the offroad-ready look of the bike. stories of epic journeys across foreign The Twin is indeed thin down lands and in spite of the fact that the through the line from the seat to the bike attained a legendary status by footpegs (not thinner than an R1200GS The footpegs themselves the time of its demise in the early but thinner than a V-Strom), it then are a joke. Way too small to 2000s, Australia never saw an official opens up to accommodate the 18.8 be of any value to anyone Africa Twin import so we really never litre tank. The seat itself is comfortable fostered a deep affinity for it like the and sits at a height that may be a little Europeans did.

  • Do You Have Any Comments on Or About STAR 2016?
Do you have any comments on or about STAR 2016? A couple of officers were poorly prepared for the Membership meeting. Although the banquet was excellent, the seating was a problem. At least three of the tables including mine was not within view of the stage so we could not see the anybody at the speaker. Tables were blocked by corner. At every STAR there is something to love. Even tho some of the roads weren't in the best condition, being able to leave the lodge without battling traffic and being in beautiful surroundings with great riding was AMAZING. We loved that part and rode every day. Black Bear Lodge was great, except the wifi was terrible. Congratulations on a terrific STAR event! Could have been a better lunch.Too many flies on the serving tables.Ticket had one time and the event schedule was different. They also let us in to the banquet an hour early. Demos was a nice option, do a shorter loop and do a demo. Disappointed that no Treasurer's reports were given to the members at the Membership meeting Disappointed with the condition of the roads. Also had gravel roads on the routes. even though I missed new STAR attendee meetings I think it was a very good step in the right direction to welcome those who haven't attended a STAR or any MSTA event before. Having ride sign up sheets certainly assured any rider that if they didn't know anyone or the geographical area they could hook up with like minded individuals and ride at their own speed.
