We will also honor the achievements of the past with a tribute to Neil Armstrong, and past Moon missions, and look ahead to future lunar exploration that is being facilitated by our current missions. Timeframe extends from Yuri’s Night through mission completion. • Theme/Messaging: “It’s a New Moon, LADEE” – A new generation of robotic lunar explorers is revolutionizing our understanding of the Moon. – New discoveries find the Moon a far more exciting place than we had previously thought. • Website: http://moon.nasa.gov It’s A New Moon • Tied to SMD’s 50 Years of Solar System Exploration initiative • In 2013, opportunity to: – Reach out to our networks and audiences to do programming, hold events – Host our own events or integrate the theme / messaging into our programs – Evaluate a large public outreach effort • Possible products for our audiences – Programming guides for informal educators and for formal educators - ideas and resources for engaging their audiences – One-pager for ways scientists can get involved – Repurposed classroom and informal activities Other ideas? Interested in strategizing efforts and/or participating? Please share! Contact: Brian Day ([email protected]) or Stephanie Shipp ([email protected]). All NASA-funded scientists interested in giving presentations are invited to join the new NASA SMD Scientist Speaker’s Bureau! Purpose: The intent of this new system is to enable educators and institutions to contact NASA SMD-funded scientists who are interested in giving presentations, based upon the topic, logistics, and audience. Aside from name, organization, location, bio, and (optional) photo and website, the information that scientists enter into this database will not be made public; instead, it will be used to help match scientists with the requests being placed. The system is now open to accept interested scientists’ information! In March 2013, there will be an additional form that organizations and educators can fill out to request a speaker; the system will compare the data from their request and list the matching scientists’ and then once one has been selected, the system will send a request to that scientist with the details provided by the requestor. Please invite your scientists to join! http://www.lpi.usra.edu/education/speaker/ Programs or Projects to Share / Highlight for the Planetary Community?
