WELCOME FROM SPONSORS THE CHAIRMAN MESSAGE Normally my message would be one of welcome to our supporters, but as Covid continues to impact our lives and our games, the welcomes are largely on hold. It is however most welcome that our Championships can take place again this year and that we can welcome at least a limited number of people into our grounds to see them. Eir, AIB and Supervalu continue to sponsor the CELEBRATING Football Championship and I want to acknowledge As the vaccination programme continues and their ongoing support during what is a difficult the number of cases continue to decrease, I time for the Association. It is much appreciated. am hopeful that with continued vigilance and care, consideration will be given to increased After an unprecedented 2020 and an end of year attendances as the season progresses. that was unusually illuminated by Championship action, it is wonderful that after a trying start to 2021 we can once again look forward to 30 YEARS Our Leinster Senior Football Championship gets underway this weekend with three first our provincial competitions. As I said earlier round games. In Páirc Tailteann we have a very if we continue to stay safe and vigilant then interesting tie as Louth meet Offaly, with the I look forward to meeting many more of our counties recently enjoying successful National loyal supporters in our grounds as the summer progresses. OF SUPPORT League campaigns which yielded promotion for both. Bí sábháilte. In Aughrim we have what should be a very entertaining local derby as home side Wicklow take on neighbours Wexford. Both teams arrive off 1991- 2021 the back of similar league campaigns, which didn’t yield a win until the last game. TheseWhile Bord na Móna O’Connor Park plays host to re Our Colours the clash of Carlow and Longford. Carlow enjoyed a decent Division 4 League campaign with wins over Waterford and Wexford. Longford’s League campaign saw losses to Derry and Cavan before a point was secured in a draw with Fermanagh before a fine victory over a much-fancied Tipperary team in a relegation play off. I want to wish all players and managements well today and thank them for their continued co- operation during these challenging times. I also want to thank all our referees and their officials for their dedication to our games. www.carrollsoftullamore.ie WELCOME FROM SPONSORS THE CHAIRMAN MESSAGE CELEBRATING 30 YEARS OF SUPPORT These re Our1991 Colours- 2021 www.carrollsoftullamore.ie Vincent Daly a man still out on his own. These re Our Colours Vincent Daly a man still out on his own. This year Longford GAA lost a true legend of the game with the passing of Vincent Daly in May. The Granard man remains the only Longford player to captain his County to Leinster title success. The St Marys man came from a proud football family and was part of a remarkable team during the 1960’s. Following on from a breakthrough League title win in 1966 the midlanders would go onto claim the Delaney Cup in 1968 with a 3-09 to 1-04 victory over Laois. Longford went 0-5 to 0-0 ahead in the first quarter. Laois responded with 1-1 but two further points left Longford 0-7 to 1-1 ahead at the break. But seven minutes into the second half Sean Donnelly scored the first Longford goal. Laois responded with points but goals from Sean Donnelly and Jimmy Hannify left Longford with an historic win. Which saw the then just 20 year old Daly hoist the trophy on behalf of his county. From here they would go on to contest a narrow loss against a mighty Kerry side These in the All Ireland Semire Final. However, Our Colours that years celebrations were not over for Vincent as he returned to his club of St Mary’s to help guide them to a third U21 County title in a row. Vincent would finish his career with 1 Senior Leinster medal, 2 Longford Senior medals alongside the 3 afore mentioned U21 titles. A career that would be the envy of many a player. His loss is felt by all in the GAA world and in particular within his beloved Longford. Ar a dheis dé go raibh a anam Two Teams on the up and up. When Louth and Offaly were plucked from the bowl during the Leinster Championship draw in April, it set up a first round fixture between teams operating in Division 4 and Division 3. Not any longer! Promotion for both the Wee County and the Faithful County has left them looking forward to competing at a higher level in 2022, so a primary target for the season has already been achieved. But for the Championship, both counties would have quietly set their ambitions of progressing past the first round and, at the very least, giving Kildare a rattle in the quarter-final. And with no back-door again this year, today’s game takes on even greater significance as neither side will want to see their progress stalled so early in the summer. It’s the type of game that brings out the clichés – a 50/50 battle – and leaves pundits in two minds. Offaly’s encouraging form at a level higher than Louth may have been dented by a crushing Division 3 final defeat to Derry last Saturday Theseweek. On the other hand, the result may have re Our Colours served to refocus the minds after four wins in a row over Wicklow, Limerick, Tipperary and Fermanagh. Previously, Offaly had earned plaudits for finishing games strongly, with their substitutes making a massive impact on each occasion. Foremost among them has been long-serving stalwart Niall McNamee, who made his senior debut in 2003 and, in Croke Park last weekend, clocked up his 150th Championship and League appearance for his county. No doubt this was just the type of ‘bounce’ the Louth County Board had hoped for when signing up the legendary Mickey Harte as their new boss. He seems to have already instilled a new confidence in the squad, as other renowned managers have done for other counties in the past. In contrast, John Maughan may feel it has taken him nearly three years to bring the best out in Offaly. That being said, the midlanders recorded a long-overdue Leinster Championship win last year against Carlow and subsequently held their own for long periods against Kildare. And it could be argued that These re Ourone of Offaly’s best displaysColours under Maughan was actually in the 2018 Championship, when they had Meath on the rack in Navan, only to lose out in the closing stages. Louth narrowly succumbed to Longford in the first round of the 2020 Championship, but beat Wexford in their opening assignment in 2019, so their recent record in Leinster is not much different than Offaly. Restoring pride, playing with greater consistency and building up some momentum by progressing past the first round are targets applicable to both teams in action today. Camogie Association & GAA Information and Guidance leaflet on the National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 March 2015 1 National Vetting Bureau (Children & Vulnerable Persons) Act The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Act 2012 is the vetting legislation passed by the Houses of the Oireachtas in December 2012. This legislation is part of a suite of complementary legislative proposals to strengthen child protection policies and practices in Ireland. Once the ‘Vetting Bureau Act’ commences the law on vetting becomes formal and obligatory and all organisations and their volunteers or staff who with children and vulnerable adults will be legally obliged to have their personnel vetted. Such personnel must be vetted prior to the commencement of their work with their Association or Sports body. It is important to note that prior to the Act commencing that the Associations’ policy stated that all persons who in a role of responsibility work on our behalf with children and vulnerable adults has to be vetted. This applies to those who work with underage players. (The term ‘underage’ applies to any player who is under 18 yrs of age, regardless of what team with which they play). The introduction of compulsory vetting, on an All-Ireland scale through legislation, merely formalises our previous policies and practices. 1 When will the Act commence or come into operation? The Act is effectively agreed in law but has to be ‘commenced’ by the Minister for Justice and Equality who decides with his Departmental colleagues when best to commence all or parts of the legislation at any given time.

It is fair to say that there have been several moments when it looked as if we would not be here in this position. In many ways the world we knew and took for granted last March seems a lot longer than seven months ago. So much has been lost, and more important than the freedoms and privileges we so badly miss are the lost lives of the more than 2,500 Irish people all over the island who passed away at the hands of the coronavirus and left a void in the lives of the loved ones who mourn them. As we return to inter-county action the perils of the world we find ourselves in still exist.

2021 GAA MEDIA GUIDE Treoirleabhar na Meán 2021 @officialgaa 2021 GAA Media Guide - Teachtaireacht ón Uachtaráin Ba mhaith liom fáilte a chur romhaibh go léir ar ais chuig ár gcluichí The last 14 months have come as a challenge to us all and while we have some distance to travel before we can once again look forward to big games with full stadiums, there are green shoots ahead of us. Who could have known in mid-March last year when we took the decision to shut our activities down, that the Covid challenge would still be front and centre as the summer of 2021 approaches? The best of the GAA shone as we grappled with profound changes to our lives and the supports provided by our club and county network to those who needed them most was both heartening and reassuring. Our games when they returned were a welcome tonic. The club championships and all of the activity that preceded them helped breathe life back into communities right across the GAA family. Similarly, in the darkest days of winter the inter-county games provided us with a focal point and a welcome distraction as we grew accustomed to supporting our players and teams from afar. In the coming weeks, the Allianz League games will come thick and fast and the interest and excitement will follow. We have shown flexibility in organising our competitions, most notably in football where again a straight knockout approach will apply. I would like to acknowledge the buy-in from everyone concerned in helping to make both last year and this season work, and I have no doubt that the entertainment value and profile of the games will be as high as ever.
