Wherever feasible, we will reduce the use, creation and discharge of toxic substances in full compliance with provincial and federal regulations. In the case of cobalt, the use cannot be reduced unless the Macassa Mine’s production rate decrease, since it is present in the ore. Toxic substance reduction will be an ongoing effort at the Macassa Mine, and we will continue to consider options that are both technically and economically feasible. Objectives of the Toxic Substance Reduction Plan It is Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. Macassa Mine’s goal to reduce the use and creation of cobalt where technically and economically feasible. Cobalt is not “created” in the facility process; rather it enters the process as an impurity or by- product found in ore. Rationale for Not Implementing Toxic Substance Reduction Options Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. Macassa Mine cannot formally identify technically and economically feasible options to reduce the amount of cobalt discharged through mining and milling practices. Toxic Substance Reduction will be an ongoing effort, and the Company will continue to consider options for reduction in the future.
