Elke will be serving at Lavenham and Simon continue working as part-time curate in Hadleigh for another two years. Everyone is welcome to attend the service at the Cathedral. and barbeque. 2pm at the Village Hall on the 25th June. Lots of stalls, fun games, raffle and good company. All are welcome. – Wednesday 28th 2pm, St Mary’s - Midweek Pre- School group for parents/carers and children under five. 20 minutes of fun, stories and song, followed by refreshments and play. Thursday 29th in St Mary’s, Bures. We will be welcoming Diane Milan who will be talking to us about our link with the Diocese of Kagera. - Friday 30th June from 3.00 - 4.30pm. The PSA would be very grateful if any members of the Church community felt able to contribute just a little time that afternoon to help run some stalls for the children. St Mary’s and Bures Baptist churches invite you to join in a service of worship and celebration with guest speaker Bishop Mike Harrison on Sunday 9th July in the Music Festival Big Top (please note there will not be an 8am service at St Mary’s on that day). The service commences at 9:45am and breakfast will be available from 9:00am. The Music Festival Committee will not be providing seating this year. We will have a limited number of seats but please bring your own if you would like to sit down. Thank you so much to those that have offered to help already but we could always do with more volunteers and would love to hear from you if you are able to help in any way. The Music Festival Committee have asked if anyone from the church community would be willing to volunteer (6 would be useful) to do a shift on the gate after the service on the Sunday morning? They also need to cover Sunday afternoon - two 1.5 hour shifts starting at 3.00pm. They are very keen to encourage involvement from the range of institutions in the village and are also approaching the school. It would be wonderful if we could offer them our support and show our appreciation for putting together such a fantastic event. If you are able to volunteer to help with this event in any capacity, please contact Angela Morley [email protected] or the Church Office: 01787 227407. Would you be kind enough to pass on my gratitude to the three churches. It had never occurred to me that you would give me such a farewell, and presents! I will treasure not only the memory of that, but also the kind words from so many individuals. The rose is beautiful, and I think we will use the garden centre vouchers to buy some garden furniture to replace the very old and shabby table and chairs we already have. I will miss you all.’ To all those who worked so hard to make the Open Gardens weekend such a resounding success and also to those who prepared the wonderful prayer stations in the church which many have appreciated so much this last week. If you know of someone who might like prayer, needs a home visit or is unable to get to church and would like communion in their home, please speak to a member of the clergy or one of the Welcome Team or contact us via the details on this bulletin. For people who are hard of hearing the church has a ‘loop system’. Please adjust your hearing aid to ‘T’ and if possible sit at least 2 feet away from church walls. The toilet is located at the back of the church through the doors to the kitchen.     St Edmundsbury Cathedral Festal Eucharist President: The Right Revd Dr Mike Harrison Bishop of Dunwich Preacher: The Very Reverend Joe Hawes Dean of St Edmundsbury 25 December 2020 Christmas Day 10.30 am Welcome to St Edmundsbury Cathedral We celebrate today the wonderful mystery of God’s coming among us, fully human - as Emmanuel, ‘God with us’ - born of Mary. The celebration of Christ’s birth at Christmas is one of the two pillars of the Christian faith, and our Christmas services help us to recall, amid all the joyful customs and celebrations of Christmas, this central truth of the Word made flesh. The festival of the incarnation has been celebrated in the church since the third century. The Christmas crib and the nativity play can both be said to have originated from the tableau of Christ’s birth that St Francis of Assisi arranged when he celebrated Christmas at Grecchio in 1223. The Christmas season is often thought to be just a period of twelve days, ending with the Epiphany. The church nowadays, however, keeps a much earlier tradition in which the season lasts for a full forty days, ending with Candlemas, the Feast of the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, in February. May Christmas bring to you, and all who you love, joy and peace as you ponder the mystery of Christ in our midst. In the letter to St. James, he reminds us, where jealous and selfishness exist, there is disorder, but the wisdom from God is pure, peaceful, gentle, compliant and full of mercy and good fruit. In order for us to sow peace and good fruit in our hearts and in our daily lives, we have to cultivate that peace. The hard part is figuring out how to do that daily. We have to allow ourselves to be guided by him and not by this world. In today’s Gospel, Jesus shows us how he traveled with his disciples. Sometimes the best way to get to know someone is to travel with them and walk with them every step of the way.

    Festal Eucharist on Easter Day President: The Right Reverend Dr Mike Harrison Bishop of Dunwich Sunday 4 April 2021 11.00 am Welcome to St Edmundsbury Cathedral A warm welcome to the Cathedral for this Easter Day Sung Festal Eucharist as we celebrate the resurrection of our Lord. The service today is led by the Bishop of Dunwich, the Right Reverend Dr Mike Harrison. At the start of today’s service, during the hymn, the Paschal Candle (from Latin Pascha for ‘Easter’) blessed at the Vigil and used at baptisms and special celebrations throughout the coming liturgical year, will be brought in. The Paschal candle contains a twofold symbolism. First, it represents the pillar of fire that went before the Israelites during their flight from Egypt. Second, it represents Christ, the light of the world, risen from the tomb, whose Easter life we celebrate throughout the coming weeks of the year. Alleluia! The service is sung by the Edmund Consort. We are grateful to our musicians for continuing to lead the music of our cathedral within current pandemic guidelines. Thanks go today to William Saunders who is overseeing our music at this time.
