For one thing, he was the world’s smallest Black and Tan terrier. What’s more, he could do “everything but talk.” Talented and charismatic, Babe was received at thegreat theatrical houses of America and Europe with as much applause as his master’s performing troupe. So when he suddenly passed away at the break- fast table in 1901 his family was understandably heartbroken. News of Babe’s demise even made the front page of The New York Times. While he lay in state in a satin-lined casket the size of a shoe box, admirers left offerings and toys at his home “until the front yard looked like the premises of a coun- try clergyman on Donation Day.” Then, accompanied by a sizeable entourage, his mistress brought him to Hartsdale Pet Cemetery and “laid him to rest in a flower trimmed grave.” At that time we had just over one undredh burials, with many plots marked only by field rocks, wooden planks or simple plantings, but Babe’s monument changed all this. Crafted from flawles s marble, the little dog’s likeness was a catalyst for other exquisite tributes in stone, u ltimately leading to the transformation of the rustic hillside into a n acclaimed garden of beauty and grace. YORK SCHERERVILLE, IN NEW YORK, NY Abstract The aim of this article is to first define effective leadership and power, highlighting the differences between the two. The focal point is that power and effective leadership are not interchangeable and should not be treated as such. Power is a tool while effective leadership is a skill. Simply because a person wields power does not necessarily mean that he or she is an effective leader. Conversely, we will discuss how a leader is unquestionably endowed with a certain degree of power in order to maintain that particular position. Finally, because leaders have power at their disposal, we will explore ways in which power can negatively affect a leader, rendering that individual largely ineffective and exposing the extremely fragile relationship between these two terms.

Few studies with a limited focus in terms of impacts and life cycle stages exist that assess the environmental impacts of dogs. This paper addresses the entire life cycle of a dog. An LCA study on an average dog was conducted considering the pet food and dog excrements, i.e., urine and feces. Fifteen impact categories were analyzed. An average dog has a climate change and freshwater eutrophication potential of around 8200 kg CO2eq and 5.0 kg Peq., respectively. The main contribution to most impact categories over the dog’s life is caused by pet food. Freshwater eutrophication is mainly determined by the dog´s urine and feces. Feces also have a significant contribution to the category of freshwater ecotoxicity. Impacts increase significantly with increasing weight and a longer lifetime of the dog as well as low collection rates of the feces. This LCA study reveals that pet dogs can have a significant environmental impact, e.g., around 7% of the annual climate change impact of an average EU citizen.

Overview The vampire is one of the most popular and enduring images in the world, giving rise to hundreds of monster movies around the globe every year, not to mention novels, short stories, plays, TV shows, and commercial merchandise. Yet the Western vampire image that we know from the film, television, and literature of today is very different from its eastern European progenitor. Nina Auerbach has said that "every age creates the vampire that it needs." In this course we will explore the eastern European origins of the vampire, similar entities in other cultures that predate them, and how the vampire in its look, nature, vulnerabilities, and threat has changed over the centuries. This approach will provide us with the means to learn about the geography, village and urban cultures, traditional social structure, and religions of eastern Europe; the nature and manifestations of Evil and the concept of Limited Good; physical, temporal, and societal boundaries and ritual passage that accompany them; and major historical and intellectual periods (the settlement of Europe, the Age of Reason, Romanticism, Neo-classicism, the Enlightenment, the Victorian era, up to today).

It attempts to achieve this objective by providing cash payments from the federal government to governments of provinces that have a lower fiscal capacity—the ability to raise revenues. In recent years, largely as a result of economic slumps in several non-recipient provinces, disparities between the fiscal capacity of recipient and non-recipient provinces have gen- erally shrunk significantly. The logic of the equalization program suggests that, because the fis- cal capacities of recipient and non-recipient provinces are converging, the total equalization envelope should eventually begin to shrink as well. However, under the program’s current rules, aggregate equalization payments are required to continue growing (in line with recent national growth in GDP) in perpetuity.

    Sundown Fun Pass Terms and Conditions of use 2019 • A Fun Pass will only be valid when it is used and/or presented by the named holder, it displays a photograph which must be a true likeness of the holder and it is within the validity period. Photocopies of the Fun Pass will not be accepted. Any use or attempted use of a Fun Pass in breach of these terms or Sundown Adventureland regulations will result in the Fun Pass being revoked without compensation. • A Fun Pass entitles the holder admission to the attractions for a period of 12 months from the date of issue (validity period) and is subject to the operating calendar and any application exclusion dates. The valid until date is printed on the Fun Pass. Please check attractions opening and closing dates/times before you visit. • Fun passes can be used up to and including the ‘valid date’. • To use a Fun Pass the authorised holder must show it at the admission kiosk on arrival at the attraction.
