Conference for Asian Partnership of National Trust UNESCO REGIONAL WORKSHOP organized by PHT, Badan Warisan Malaysia and Arts-Education, USM.

• FOCUS capacity-building for teachers and educators in Asia and the Pacific region how to facilitate the world heritage sites into the education.

• OBJECTIVE promote Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and in particular innovative teaching approaches, using the creative arts to discover and learn about the historic environment and expose youth to new environments, different cultures and world influences captured in World Heritage sites. 30 Educators, teachers and heritage experts from seven countries in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Viet Nam)

PURPOSE

§To help participants articulate the relationship between Arts in Education and the World Heritage Sites; §To help teachers and educators understand the heritage education in school curricula; §To help apply relevant tools and methods in order to achieve efficient heritage educators and teachers

* in meaningful and enjoyable ways To understand physical heritage and intangible cultural heritage, we used Mapping Technology as a tool to map the Socio-Cultural and Economic History of Local and Traditional Communities

• A trained group of teachers, heritage workers and youth facilitators with mapping tools to carry out ground research with young people. • A visual arts exhibition by children mapping and interpreting Balik Pulau Town and its community. • New synergies between human resources i.e. community and educators, and pedagogical resources i.e. creative arts and technology
