  • Kundalini and the Complete Maturation of the Ensouled Body
KUNDALINI AND THE COMPLETE MATURATION OF THE ENSOULED BODY Stuart Sovatsky, Ph.D. Richmond, California ABSTRACT: In utero and infantile developmental manifestations of kundalini, the ‘‘ultimate maturational force’’ according to yogic traditions, are traced to numerous advanced yogic processes, including urdhva-retas (lifelong neuroendocrine maturation), khecari mudra (puberty-like maturation of the tongue, hypothalamus and pineal) and sahaja asanas (spontaneously arising yoga asanas) and their cross-cultural cognates that, altogether, form the somatic basis for all manner of spiritual aspirations and complete maturation of the ensouled body. At the collective level and according to the centermost Vedic maxim, Vasudhaiva kutumbakam (The world is one family), a vast majority of successful fifty-year marriages interspersed with sannyasins (fulltime yogis) indicates a spiritually matured society. Thus, along with developing spiritual emergence counseling techniques for individuals in spiritual crises, transpersonal clinicians might draw from ashrama and tantric mappings of lifelong developmental stages to support marriages, families and communities and thus, over future centuries, reverse current familial/global brokenness and foster the emergence of mature, enlightened, whole cultures. A coil of lightning, a flame of fire folded (224) She [kundalini] cleans the skin down to the skeleton (233) Old age gets reversed (260) She…dissolves the five [bodily] elements (291) …[then] the yogi is known as Khecar [tumescent tongued] Attaining this state

  • Bhairavī Cakra: Goddess Mandalas/Rituals in Contemporary Tantra’S Nondualism
Bhairavī Cakra: Goddess Mandalas/Rituals in Contemporary Tantra’s Nondualism Helen Crovetto Independent Scholar INTRODUCTION THE PHRASE Bhairavī Cakra appears in descriptions of at least two distinct contemporary tantric rites. In the first case, Bhairavī Cakra is the name given to a tantric ritual sādhana (spiritual practice) performed collectively, and in the second its physical manifestation is the name of a tool that may be used by an individual in graveyard or cremation ground practices. The followers of Vairāgī Vaiṣṇava guru Baba Hari Dass (b. 1922) use the group of sādhanas called Bhairavī Cakra. This type of ritual appears to be based on the sattvic (subtle) or yogic variety of cakra pūjā (circle worship) rites described in the Mahānirvāṇa-tantra. That text has been variously dated till as late as the eighteenth century.1 Baba Hari Dass says that the Bhairavī Cakra that his pūjāris (ritual or worship specialists) teach predates the kinds practiced during India’s late medieval period. The Vairagī Ritual is a circular sādhana performed with an equal number of men and women that employs yantras to invoke the various forms of Devī. It does not have a sexual component. The second utilization of Bhairavī Cakra is by Ānanda Mārgiis, whose ideology is based on the writings of the twentieth-century tantric guru Śrī Śrī Ānandamūrti (1921–1990, a.k.a. P. R. Sarkar). For them, Bhairavī Cakra is a yantra that has internal microcosmic aspects and two external aspects. One of the latter is a diagrammatic device that may be produced by an individual practitioner with various materials while the other is a macrocosmic and always-present energetic relationship between puruṣa (consciousness) and prakṛti (energy) that they believe forms a universal mandala.

  • Focus of the Month 4.15
Bobbi Misiti 2201 Market Street Camp HIll, PA 17011 717.443.1119 befityoga.com TOPIC OF THE MONTH May 2015 NOTES FROM ASHTANGA YOGA CONFERENCE BALI, INDONESIA APRIL 5-10, 2015 Continued from April 2015 Notes from David Swenson’s Workshop If you ever get the chance to take a workshop with David Swenson I highly recommend it. He is by far one of my favorite workshops to attend. He is a good speaker, heart felt, funny, and informational on the ashtanga practice. David Swenson has an amazing story. After many years of ashtanga yoga with Pattabhi Jois, he feels less than enlightened . so he decides to become a Hari Krishna . after a few years of that he is standing on the street corner trying to sell those Hari Krishna books (all the money goes to some Hari Krishna monastery) . His mother walks up and says “oh sweetie, no one is going to buy one of those books, I will buy one”. He stood there thinking, my mother just showed me unconditional love . this Hari Krishna stuff is not enlightenment either — and he was sick of trying to be a salesman for the Hari Krishnas. He heads off traveling all over the world . returns home, sick with dysentery, with scabies from sleeping in cheap places, and injured from surfing in India . He hears Pattabhi Jois is coming to the states . after many years of a hiatus (I can’t remember exactly maybe 5-6 or more) he decides to go see him. He gets there and realizes Pattabhi Jois does not recognize him, which leaves him feeling a bit sad.

For in- stance, the Ramayana has been expressed or interpreted in Lkhaon Khmer dance theatre, in the Mappila Songs of the Muslims of Kerala and Lakshadweep,[5] in the Indian operatic tradition of Yakshagana, and in the epic paint- ings still extant on, for instance, the walls of Thailand's Wat Phra Kaew palace temple. In Indonesia, the tales of the Ramayana appear reflected in ballet performances, masked danced drama, and Wayang shadow puppetry.[6] Angkor Wat in Siem Reap also has mural scenes from the epic Battle of Lanka on one of its outer walls. 1 Sanskrit versions Below are a few of the most prominent Sanskrit versions of the Ramayana. Some primarily recount Valmiki’s narrative, while others focus more on peripheral stories and/or philosophical expositions: • Adhyatma Ramayana or spiritual Ramayana is ex- tracted from the Brahmananda Purana, traditionally ascribed to Vyasa.
